I wont be getting vol2 . All of the other Morrison stuff is available in premium format. Absolute Batman and Robin, The Return of Bruce Wayne, Absolute Batman Incorporated..and if you wanna be a completist, Time and the Batman HC, but that one is mostly 3-4 issues of filler.

All the oddball stuff like Zur-en-Arrh and the Club of Heroes are callbacks to wacky Silver Age Batman stories. Those stories are collected in a TPB called The Black Casebook but last time I checked it was super pricey

I love Grant Morrison for the most part. I find after you read his entire arcs you get alot out of them if you read them again. There is always something going on in the background you may have missed and he does his homework on Batman. I remember when the prose issue came out me and a couple of friends were collecting at the time. One of my buddies hated the idea of having to read a novel that month and probably never did. Good issue none the less and I always liked the idea that comics really dont have to follow any rules if they dont want to. Im sure he would not have gotten away with a full six issue arc done that way. Anyway good review none the less.

As always, I really appreciate your honest reviews. I have to agree with you GEM MINT - the Morrison v1 is really good in the beginning and then limps through the middle of the book. I really don't like the heavy text issue because it takes a long time to read but I agree its somewhat important to the narrative and overarching theme. I think to best understand what Morrison tried to do in his 7-year run (which in my opinion did not fulfill its potential), readers should pick up The Batman Case Book which reprints key issues from the 50s and 60s that Morrison kind of channeled into his run. Morrison even pens the Introduction to The Batman Case Book. The problem I see with Morrison was that this whole thing could have been wrapped up succinctly in 3 years but he stretched it out for 7 years b/c it was a steady paycheck from DC and as a result I can't blame him at all - but, the end result is that he did not end up with a classic Batman run. Compare it to his 12-issue All-Star Superman with Frank Quitely or his New X-Men run (I think it was 3 years only) - those were amazing. In the end, the most unbelievable Batman storylines/runs, sadly, includes only 2 Morrison entries (neither of which is from his 7-year run). In my humble opinion, these are the 50 best Batman comics/storylines along with two solid honorable mentions:
    1. The Dark Knight Returns by Miller/Janson/Varley
    2. Batman: Year One by Miller/Mazzuchelli
    3. Strange Apparitions - The 1970s acclaimed Batman run by Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers from Detective Comics #471-476
    4. Gotham by Gaslight by Mignola
    5. The Killing Joke by Alan Moore & Brian Bolland
    6. The Batman & Dracula Trilogy by Doug Moench & Kelly Jones: Red Rain, Bloodstorm & Crimson Mist
    7. Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale
    8. Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth by Grant Morrison & Dave McKean
    9. Batman & The Monster Men by Matt Wagner
    10. Batman & The Mad Monk by Matt Wagner
    11. Batman & Grendel I and Batman & Grendel II by Matt Wagner
    12. Haunted Knight by Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale
    13. Dark Knight III: The Master Race by Miller/Azzarello/Kubert/Janson
    14. Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader by Neil Gaiman & Andy Kubert
    15. Batman Year 100 by Paul Pope
    16. Batman The Entire New 52 run by Snyder & Capullo
    17. Batman: The Cult by Jim Starlin & Bernie Wrightson

Awesome review as always. I think this just saved me some money. I’ve been on the fence about this one for the last few days and I’m pretty sure I will pass on this run. I read the Batman and Robin issues with Dick as Batman and Damian as robin and really dug those back in the day when they first came out but became uninterested with the bigger story with the whole gimmicky new Batman themed costume a month and immediate return of Bruce Wayne. This run just doesn’t really seem like the Batman Story I want to read. I prefer the dark and gritty solo Batman without the whole bat family crammed in unless it’s organic and a bit more of a smaller scale. Bigger isn’t always better

  • @tylerscott6640
    @tylerscott6640 2 года назад

You got most of it for a first read through. I fucking love this run. It definitely takes a couple read-throughs to catch everything but I love that kinda stuff.
It also doesn't hurt if you've read a good amount of past Batman stories but it's not essential. This is still enjoyable on it's own.
It can never be said that Grant Morrison isn't creative as hell. The dude has an insane imagination and in my opinion he was firing on all cylinders here.

Finished reading this one a few nights back. The missing issues are a bit of an...issue. I liked it but the missing stuff is really confusing sometimes and I found the light novel issue boring, the super sanity theory was pretty cool but that’s about the only positive thing I can say about that part. The international hero’s club stuff was pretty fun. I liked the mystery but by the halfway point I had already guessed who the killer was. Over all it had some really good stuff and some bad stuff. So far the second volume has been much better.

That's not a superpower, it's his means to use his natural and gained through training abilities to greater use. His SUPERpower is having no superpowers because they weren't bestowed upon him through some science fictional bullshit like a radioactive spider. It's grounded in reality far more than any other superhero.

I don't like Grant Morrison's run on Batman. He makes Batman too insane for my taste.
