- GMWA MASS CHOIR - NEW ORLEANS, LA 1989. "HOLD ON" lead by Tramaine Hawkins. Writer of song is Rev Quincy Fielding Jr, and he is directing the choir as well. At the end of the song, Rev James Cleveland took over directing the choir and took the song to another level! This ended up being the last time Rev James Cleveland stood before the Mass Choir directing before he passed away. The following year was in DC, and Rev was not able to come out that week very much due to illness. The following Feb 9, 1991, Rev James Cleveland went on to be with the Lord.

This is was the first time I had the opportunity to attend a GMWA Convention. This song will forever be in my heart. Tramaine Hawkins was so powerful and the takeover of Rev. Cleveland directing.........whew! Thanks to Quincy Fielding for such a touching message!
This... All time favorite for myself. These words give me eternal peace that the God Lord inspite of me will promise to take care of me to the very end. I just have got to hold on to his hand. Might I add there is nothing like the sound of an old school gospel choir. No other music compares.
I've been looking for this song for so many years. My granny used to play it on a cassette tape when I was a kid, and she would have me song along with it. I'm so happy I finally get to hear it again. 😊

This is one of those gut wrenching songs that go to the very fiber of one's being pulling out doubt, weary, fear and all the other similarities and bringing in fresh hope, faith and confidence in our Heavenly Father who loves us dearly!!!

I love it too. I use the chorus/chord progression for call to discipleship.
1989: crack cocaine, AIDS, and teenage pregnancy epidemics were all raging at the same time. Hold On was a blessed prayer of faith praise God.
I just tore up at work with JESUS HAND. NEVER KNEW THAT I HAD 3 YEARS OF A JOB MOMENT..BUT I HELD ON AND WHAT I LOST GOD GAVE IT BACK 3 TIMES AND MORE.
I SAD WHY AM I BEING PUNISHED, I CRIED, FELT LIKE KILLING MYSELF, BUT GOD...BUT GOD GAVE ME BACK GOOD SUCCESSES WITH THE STRUGGLES OF THE PAST 3 YEAR JOB MOMENT. I PROPHESIED OVER MY 3 YEAR LIFE BATTLE. KEEP PRAISING GOD THROUGH THE FIRE.
