They chose the worst time of the year for that area to move it, let alone the breakdown. The roads are jammed in that area when Glatso is on. And the roads are Somerset roads going through villages etc.
Unfortunately sometimes we can only go through villages etc, depending on the final location and if the customer requires it for a specific day then it gets there.
@@rambledogs2012 I don’t blame the transport company, I blame the quarry owners as they should of had better planning. They know when Glastonbury is on and the roads that would have been used to move the machine.
@@marksapollo Doesn't matter, they too will be on a tight time schedule in order to get the machinery in. A festival isn't going to be of any interest in stopping that schedule.
@@rambledogs2012 Yeap gotta keep them shareholders happy above ALL else. But if cars can’t get through, neither can emergency vehicles, you should think about that.
No emergency vehicle needed to get through so your point there is moot.
„trucker break down...“ Thought at first that the driver, or the trucker, had an emotional break down while driving HAHAHA
I see it's the same as in the USA, Big trucks with automatic transmissions = JUNK!!!! Just like antilock brakes on airbrake vehicles, they've had 20+ years of development and they still don't work.
But the stupid thing is, why plan to move that machine through Glastonbury when the festival is kicking out. They knew the road would be busy. Ridiculous to be honest. Feel sorry for the driver.
Should have got a Scania
Would not have solved a thing
It would still happen

incredible that this is possible on UK roads. In Belgium trucks of this size can only travel during night after a lot of planning ! At that time its also easier to block roads to let trucks of this calibre pass
Driving at night through such villages would wake people and also likely to cause an accident as they are unlit. Most the roads are wide enough just the odd old village with escourt vehicle can block off ahead easily.
@@Dosedmonkey Nonsense, it might wake a few people but driving at night is way safer and better for congestion of traffic
@@therickman1990 i agree with you
@@therickman1990 No, it's more dangerous to do it at night because of the nature that it's dark. During the day, everything is illuminated and much easier for recovery or repair or Law Enforcement/Rescue assistance.
People out on the roads at night are either more HGVs doing routine jobs on main roads or are racers that aren't paying attention to a massive lorry.
Anything is Possible in the UK its our "can do approach" same approach that handed Europe back to its owners in 1945. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Good planning to travel round there during festival time , let alone on last day 🙈🤷♀️
It's almost as if the TV company pays them to do something stupid to fill a series.
Life doesn’t stop because of some hippie festival.
Huge respect to this truck driver. Keeping calm the way he did is not easy in a situation like this.
So many Volvos I almost thought it was sweden xD
I felt bad for the guy when the truck died But he is right if it was easy everybody would be doing it
felt the same way
how are you doing
Poor planning and execution to move a load this size during that time of day.
Not wrong
Volvo has got some explaining to do. If you know Volvo, you know that they did a 750-tonne monster pull, way over the truck's max gross weight, and it did it no problem. I can't believe this happened.
But they have their brakes sorted - ruclips.net/video/P-giC24SxwE/видео.html
Hopefully it was a manufacturing fault of some sort and as such a one off. If it's a design issue then that would be pretty shocking. These trucks aren't cheap as they need to be as reliable as possible.
Even the DAF i drive at work is known in the truck world to not be thr most reliable, but compared to the cars i've owned its been better than them all in terns of breakdowns and issues per miles covered. Infact it has never actually broken down.
He burned out the clutch

The country doesn't stop because some hippies wanna go home.
@@djc1234 they clearly didn't need that piece of equipment on that day so yes they could have easily waited until the next morning, or he'll just do it like the rest of Europe a d move it at night
Its the customer that sets a deadline for when the need it.
I grew up in Glastonbury, in fact i lived about 100m down that road. It was quite common to have oversize loads passing through town in the middle of the day.
Modern Curbsniffers cant even deliver one heavy load.... without the help of (G)oldies :D :D :D
Back in the days yous was able to pull any load with 280HP floating gears.... Modern days you cant pull a heavy load cos the clutch is gonna breakdown... Oooor the engine overheats.
Back in the day you didnt have 100 ton exvcavators or loads like these that have to be dragged on slopes like these.
@@ExeQtd Even if... It wouldnt be a problem ;) The trucks where heavier due to steel instead of the modern day plastics to save some weight...
Dont forget the engines where biiiig (12-16L to get the job done...) Today it's a Turbo with an engine... Back in the days it was an engine with a Turbo to help breath the engine properly to give it that extra push.
Now Volvo says OOOH LOOK AT US WE GOT THE CRAWLING GEAR.... With the right gearbox you have the Crawlergear aswell... (Eaton 18speed for example)
The real trouble with modern Curbsniffers is... Its a Robot doing all the work for ya... It decides what gear/what RPM etc (many trucks dont even have a kickdown anymore) back in the days it was the driver who did all the work.
@@TheTruth_187 i partly agree, i liked the big engines. But they are saving alot of weight so that they can haul more.
@@ExeQtd Very true :)
MAN is excellent in that matter... They built the new TGS/TGX series... You can buy the heavy 13L ooor you buy the 200kg lighter 9L (up to 400HP) which can pull up to 40 tons if needed.
I got the TGS 18.400 eventho i prefer the 13L engine that small 9L works like a dream aswell.
Max Torque at 1000rpm.
But how long will that engine last because small doesnt mean durable over the years.
Who thought of giving him an automatic truck? That was not smart
all the truvknus autđtonszic
A lot of trucks are now autos, very few new manuals.
It's a backwards world. The US has automatic cars and manual trucks, whereas the UK has manual cars and automatic trucks. For the most part.
"The Computer says no" that reminds me of
litte britain XD
Moral: New trucks are crap 😂😂
Like new cars, to many electronics to go wrong
New tech introduces new points of failure. Better to make a simpler machine than a more advanced machine with the same capabilities.
2:17 This is one reason why you pull this type of load with a 18 speed, not a damn automatic truck... and I am not quite surprised that it is a brand new truck...
I work for a crane company and all ower ballast trucks are manual for reasons like this. The automatic just doesn't cut it.
Absolutely not the fault of the lorry driver of course, but I can imagine the immense pressure of a mixture of feeling embarrassed, helpless and apologetic etc. for blocking a busy road. Especially knowing that other lorry drivers have their tachograph clocks ticking. Being a new tractor unit, it wasn't exactly what anyone expected to happen. I love the way they dealt with the situation as swiftly as they could. These things happen and it was good to see that were no apparent displays of silly complaining and mild to wild road rage from other drivers.
When this programme was on, I much preferred watching the Kings Haulage guys, they had more personality then the haulage company they switched to for the second and third series.
9:16 "If [the excavator] slips off the timber, it could damage it's drive unit."
Oh, the drama!!!

No way in hell.
hahaha thought the same thing
Old trucks are better more reliable and more durable than these new computerized trucks
He should've gotten the I-shift (with crawler gears)
I was sent to work on a similar situation, problem was that the weight of the truck was pushing on the clutch so it couldn't disengage.
If you look at the shifter it is an ishift

Same! And the thumbnail is misleading as well !
And there just happens to be a cameraman at the Office…
And no he wont damage the drivemotors on the excavator
Why wouldn't there?
If you film a documentary about a heavy haulage of course you would station a camera team at the office.
Even if nothing goes wrong you can still film some stuff.
I'll be honest Bob looked well pissed off that day and with good reason
Look at how much traffic this lorry is negotiating around it
Get rid of that automatic transmission junk. The Volvo engines have the power to pull that it is the crappy transmissions they put in them. A Peterbuilt with an 18 speed would have no issues pulling that up that grade.
Just a Peterbuilt wouldn't fit around the streets of the villages.
@@dejanbrice8774 True, never thought of that.
Good advert for not buying volvo trucks.
They all break some are just better than others
@@gregshearer423 volvo does usually do pretty well with safety
@Alan Lund I've seen a newer volvo truck model shifting something like 750 tons. Not far but they were showing the new transmission, under its own power the truck went about 100 meters. Should be on volvos official channel
How about the human error in this? 33 degrees outside on hilly terrain through traffic. Just letting the automatic gearbox do everything on it's own in such conditions I fill pity for it. Just think of what it takes to continuously shift gears accelerating and decelerating 130 tons. Curious to see the outcome if the clutch just overheated or if the i-shift just surrendered.
Every vehicle breaks down.
The moral in this story is DON'T USE and AUTOMATIC TRUCK for this work !!
Next time try going downhill and coming up in manual
Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox is an automatic gearbox.
5:25 surely that thing has a torque converter, those 750 HP engines have like 3500 NM of torque which would surely vaporize any clutch immediatly
nope, it's an AMT, automated manual transmission, has a pneumatic piston that activates the clutch
@@Arthurb06 I'm amazed it doest get shredded when pulling away by the massive torque of those engines
@@Trainman10715 they only deliver the torque at like 1400 RPM plus the truck does not give the full power till last gear and at 1400 orso rpm otherwise drive axles and other stuff will go bye bye by the first time you floor it

Volvo's supposed to have an insanely good transmission for hillstarts like these. It was either overloaded or a factory issue, in which case Volvo is responsible for the damages.
Automatic
It's all fake for the cameras
Rather convenient to be in the depot with the cameras as it broke down
Exactly my thoughts. I don't think people realise how much media/TV is just made up stories for the sake of entertainment. What a load of crap haha
