You have got to be kidding me! My original line lasts forever but it jammed on me (wound too tight). For the life of me i struggled to reload that thing. Now I want to go out to the shop and load it properly. As others have said, life saver!
THANKS !!! Like so many other guys commenting here I was so pissed off and confused with my stringing methods of this.... I was taking the top off and wrapping it and trying to then get the top back on with the string going boing all over....and forcing it together..... Lmao...... God this is so simple to do when you do it the correct way lol. Thanks !!!
Thank you. I’ve struggled since day one and have forgotten how to do it. Your code was straight to the point and also provided additional information. I appreciate it sir
From what I've heard Dewalt is an overpriced black and decker....I used to be a Dewalt fan until I did a little research and realized milwaukee is 100x better and usually cheaper....Dewalt also uses false advertisements like stating that they have a 20v drill when it states on the box, next to the Asterix, that working load is 18v....very deceptive marketing!
No way. Here I am taking the entire head off every time and spooling and fitting it out the exit holes and struggling to keep it all together while I put the head back on. I knew it wasn't the answer. This is the answer haha
You saved me alot of confusion! I always hated string the shitty other systems! Milwakee engineers are the best in the world for designing this simple way to replace string!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've had a gas Ryobi for many years and finally upgraded to the Milwaukee M18 Quik-Lok. Anyway with the Ryobi, I must've had that thing for 5 years not realizing I was winding the string incorrectly. I'd take the head off, then wrap string to one half of head and lock it in, then wrap string to the other half and lock it in. Then carefully stick the head back on the trimmer without it blowing up in my face, which it often did. Fast-foward 5 years, come to find out the trimmer could be loaded without removing the head. Guilty as charged for not RTFM.
Wow! I love my Milwaukee so much more. You'd think with all the battery performance and torque performance they advertise, they advertise this heavily as well... Missed opportunity. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the tut; damn glad I bought this weed eater (and it has the new head). lol One more thing; you have to use 3 wings (hand to hand lengths of trim) which your video didn't cover. Had to search for that but found that out. :)
It seems to me that he forgot the part that I was looking for, lining up the dots with the arrow I'm assuming is the method to get the line through the head. Thanks for posting. I restring about once a year and had forgotten what the dots were for.
Mine came with too much string from factory and it kept tangling up inside head and I had to take it apart and was a nightmare getting back together loaded. Now I know if it tangles, remove all string and start over. Thanks
Thanks for the video. Mine just ran out of string and I had no idea how to reload it. don’t know what happened to the manual either😂 one question though: how much line do yo start with to reload the head? I have a 1000ft. Roll I need to cut off of. I don’t know the appropriate length to use. Thanks
Careful with pushing to hard, the connection between my battery and the unit melted shut with a 8ah HO battery when using the trimmer :-O "used it too hard". Milwaukee in Sweden wont fix it for free so not sure if i even should fix it since it seem to be a normal issue 😲
I just bought the quick-lok system this past week. I cannot get the factory string to eject while it’s running. I bang it lightly on the ground, nothing, I bang it harder on the ground, nothing, while running of course. I’m ready to pull all the factory string out and replace it with thicker string, with hopes of rewinding the string and getting the string to eject or re-feed itself when I need more string..
Purchased M-18 weed eater about a year ago, was one of those ‘deals’, where son got very good deal on a weed eater, and blower and only needed blower, we needed weed eater , win win, right?! So when he brought the box , I Read the directions for stringing( if you haven’t guessed, I’m the wife😊). Now comes this year, not thinking anything of it, it runs out, husband says he must restring, both weed eaters. Refuel gas, charge M-18 again. Ok… then I hear what sounds like a BEAR coming into my kitchen( I hunt, I know an angry bear ) and my dog even barked, grand daughter , 2 yes old, said “what’s that!” As she stood and ran to me, only to see my husband walk into the room and say, “ I can’t get that string on the stupid weed wackier! I had many different kinds before and NEVER had THIS kind of trouble!!!!!” Grandson 6 went with him “ to help”😂 came running back into the house after 5 minutes, ( Never did that before) saying” Poppy is mad at the weed wacker and is yelling REAL loud!””😂 after explaining that he wasn’t angry at HIM, grandson said, “ I know, but I NEVER heard Poppy yell before, and I just got out of there” ( smart kid) husband came in said, can you look up and find how to string this, I’m DONE!… I find your video, I’m watching, and I see how easy, and I’m thinking,” hmm, this looks familiar…. Omg, I read the directions, and This is HOW it said to do it🤦🏻! !” I didn’t have the nerve to tell my husband ( right away, ) this, I had to wait till HE strung the dang thug his self first, lol. Your video is Very good, and instructive, one exception, please add string length or any necessary measurements, to any future episodes. Thank you! ( he Did string it very quickly after watching you!😃
I ordered my when it first came out from Acme. It had the old head. Since I use it just for my house I see no need to go to the speed feed. But it would of been nice if the model they sent me came with the speed feed. Boss now that youve used the Gen 1 and Gen 2 quikloc for awhile, do you see much of a difference is performance between the two string trimmers.
Lmfao i been taking the whole h3ad apart to restring and its been a pain in the azz so I figured I'd see if I was doing it wrong. Funny part is I have many years of experience with landscaping and weed eating and have used stihls and echoes with the speed loading head.....DIDNT READ THE MANUAL HAHA!
I find mine doesn't bump feed out any new line, or just let's some out on one side only and the other side has no line. I'll take it all out and try this. Maybe jammed.
String didn’t last 2 times around my house and broke off several times in the head unit. I also did pro landscape maintenance and this spins the wrong direction. When held by a right handed person the motor will be on your right, head on the left. The head spins in a counter clockwise direction (from the top) which throws ALL the debris directly into your shins if you are walking a fence line on the left side where the head is. If the motor spun in a clockwise direction it will throw all debris in front of you instead of at you. This is the only weed eater I’ve ever had to spin counter clockwise. Why did they do that?
Bought this m18 string trimmer and blower combo. I went to weed eat and it lasted about 5 minutes and string got jammed up inside. Had to take the head off and had a very difficult time getting the tangled string out. Put string back in just like the video and ran 30 seconds jammed again. Took off the bump head and had to work for a hour untangling it. I am very disappointed in the string head. I was hoping that since I paid more for a quality product it would work right. Then to make matters even worse the blower I got won't switch between turtle and rabbit speed. I guess I will box it up and chalk it up to experience and store it somewhere in the garage and go back to my gas week eater which has always worked without issues. So if you are contemplating buying one it may not be as easy and reliable as they advertise. You shouldn't have to work two hours to feed a string and then it won't feed correctly. I have the 10" chain saw head hope it will work or else I am out of $6oo +
You can only use rabbit speed with the supplied 8 Amp battery, I was thinking the same thing myself right away after putting a 5 Amp battery on it and not being able to get it beyond turtle mode... With a fully charged 8 Amp battery, the blower hit warp speed within a quarter of a millisecond 😂
For the record - the Milwaukee quick feed head doesnt get reviews. However - ECHO makes one that gets great reviews,, is cheaper than the Milwaukee, and is made in the USA - that will replace the older version Milwaukee head on the first generation string trimmer. Works great.
Why is mine not feeding? When it take it apart it’s hard to unwind because it seems wound too tight and stuck in there. How do I fix this?? And after taking it apart and re feeding I go maybe two minutes before only one side is feeding... maybe I’m winding too fast?
Thanks! Not sure why but the lone that came with got all bound up on the inside. I thought I'd run out but nope, it was all jammed up in there. I cut it all out and couldn't figure out how to get new line in there. 🤣 So sad. 🤣
I didn’t read the manual 🤦♂️ First time I ran out of string 🤷♂️ Took the head off. Thought it looked so simple Would I be capable of figuring it out so I Just went straight to RUclips 😬. Maybe RUclips is training us not how to figure things out how to do anything on our own 🥶.

After watching your video, it was almost as easy as breathing, the second time i tried! lol. Same method as my Ego it turns out, just manually done. Still nice! Thanks!
I’m glad one of us finally read the manual
What manual?
What's a manual?
What did he read?
Preach it!
There was no manual.
Nice, QUICK easy directions. Thanks for NOT making a 2 minute task a 20 minute video. Yours is short & sweet.
Thanks Cyndi 👌🤙🙏🙏😉

Yah I like the trimmer line that came with the Milwaukee weed trimmer
So glad my RUclips husband saved the day once again!
Thank you. I love the explanation. My husband who "I know how to do it" tossed it aside. I found your video and fixed it. 😂😂
There ya go .. men 🤷♂️
i have been trying to figure out how to load this thing for the last thirty minutes wow what a life saver thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for this!! My husband is now impressed that I can do this for him! 🤣🤣🤣

I knew it wasn't the answer. This is the answer haha
Godsend. Can't tell you the count of my many attempts doing it incorrectly.
👍👍👍👍Glad to help buddy
Ditto! I traded my Stihl gas trimmer in on this and have had the spool out on the table trying to manually wind it for an hour! Thanks
I just bought it just now And took off the head 😂😂
I never got manual when I purchased a used Milwaukee string trimmer. Thx for video!
You are welcome!
You saved me alot of confusion! I always hated string the shitty other systems! Milwakee engineers are the best in the world for designing this simple way to replace string!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for showing us. I was like WTF why isn't this working. 😅
👍👍👍👍
Thank you!!!!! I wasted so much time trying to figure this out before I found your video.
Wow... Ive try putting string 1000 times and never could. Awsome video
Thanks brother 👍👌👍🤙
How many inches did you cut and use to load the trimmer?
Thank you! I finally can reload string without throwing it in the yard and starting over again and again and again....lol
Thank you very much for posting video. May The Lord Jesus bless you , your family, friends and work.
Same to you brother 🙏

How long is the entire length before threading and loading?
Sorry if I’m late, but it’s 20’ of .095 and 25’ of .080!

I'm still on the same black line it came with and must have done over 100 places, think it's that new line that lasts and lasts, luv my trimmer.
👍👍👍👍🤟👊
Yeah that line lasted real long. My replacement line gets eaten up really fast comparatively
That works great! Thank you so much for helping me save time and stress on my Sunday. It also gives me time for a couple more beers 😄
Happy to help!
Mine came with too much string from factory and it kept tangling up inside head and I had to take it apart and was a nightmare getting back together loaded. Now I know if it tangles, remove all string and start over. Thanks
Hell yeh I been fighting with mine with trimmer head off and trying get line in lol I’ll be trying this tomorrow
Thank you for the video makes my life easier

You made my Saturday easy man! Much appreciated!
Thank you. Just wish you had shown how to advance the string.
Just press down on trimmer head ...or when using tap on ground
Thanks for the video. Mine just ran out of string and I had no idea how to reload it. don’t know what happened to the manual either😂 one question though: how much line do yo start with to reload the head? I have a 1000ft. Roll I need to cut off of. I don’t know the appropriate length to use. Thanks

YO THAT'S AWESOME IM GONNA GO TRY IT NOW IM A DUMBASS BEEN DOING JT WRONG THE WHOLE TIME
Thank you for the video! Mine is tangled up. I'm just gonna cut it and buy some new line
I Needed help and I got the best out of this thank you so much 🙏

Could have a bad head ..do a rma they send u a new one
Mine did this, pulled the head off and found the string was stuck, so I unstuck it and it back in.
Man now I want one of these trimmers that was sweet
👍👍👍🤟🤟
Thank you!!!!!! Seriously saved the day ❤️

That was awesome on how fast you can do that

cool now i dont need to go to the local small engine shop and have those guys laugh at me. one question though what is the precut length?
Whatever you want. 10 -15 feet. Up to you.
Great job, I love demonstrations 😁
🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👍🤟
I just have one question, how long did you make the pre-cut piece of string?
Not long 8 foot .. id prob recommend 10 if you could
Holy smokes I wish I watched this an hour ago

Used this video today - thanks!!
Good stuff can you buy just a replacement cap for the new head?
Don't think so buddy ..think you need to buy complete head 👌👌
@@toolboss8410 gotcha i was just wondering cause i have this on the new one i bought during that sale
So can I just buy the $35 speed feed head and use that to replace the self wrap style? It's an easy switch?
Yes it is

Thanks for the video. I just brought one of new Quik-Lok line trimmers. It’s my first line trimmer. What’s the best way to bump feed it?
Bump it
Ya my string just doesn't go in one hole and out the other so idk what you did to make it go through so didn't work for me
How to get more string to come out. Now that would be useful.
My cord keeps breaking.I’ve used thick line but still keeps breaking.any tips to help stop this cheers
Which string works better for you on here the .080 or the .095...? I recently got one of these but not sure which line to buy once it runs out.
I use .80

Why all of you show how to replace string? There is thousand of videos about that.
Can someone show how to extend line?
Like any other trimmer tap on the ground..people prob don't show because common sense for most people using a trimmer
How long should the string be?
10-15ft i like

No ..need to bump like a gas trimmer
