  • The fight is over. Never struggle to look up diagrams or videos again. THIS IS SIMPLE, EASY, and straightforward. Cut one wire add one cheap switch on the dash and everything will function as it should. JUST no safety switches. because this will bypass them all.
NOTICE This is for testing the tractor and or lawnmower only. IT IS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE WITHOUT THE SWITCHES But is safe to test as long as you need to. I've been testing for 4 years now

Tying in a extra ground wire from the negative post on the solenoid to the negative on the battery corrected my issue. (craftsman briggs & strattion, with 4 point solenoid)
I did not have to add the switch inbetween the coil pack and ignition switch, future viewers might want to try this out first, before splicing

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out why it won't start when all safeties and key switch checked out good. Ran a jumper wire from negative on solenoid to negative on battery like you said and now it starts and stops with the key. Plus I still have all my safeties. Life saver. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!

It was just the one safety switch, The brake pedal switch was the cause of all my problems. A simple wire between the two post took care of it. Thanks to YOU Tube video's anyone can figure things out if you watch enough of them, even an Idiot like myself..

Easy to re-hook wires. Ordered new parts, Switch, solenoid and coil. I will start all over and try jumper wire on all safety switches. I'm dumber than a box of rocks so this way I can make same mistakes and still not get mower running .. Fun times.

I hope you're still around! I followed your instructions Kawa 15 hp Husq mower. 2 cylinders, 2 coils. Wire comes from one coil to the other and down. I cut that black wire, did not wire in a switch yet, but hooked alligator wires x 2 to both sides so I could touch them if I needed to stop the engine. 4 connection solenoid, left the big wires alone but tested with "pen" light 12v tester: power to battery side on, power to engine side on when key turned to start. Tried to start. Motor was cranking over but no start so I thought I needed your extra wire to the - terminal (or frame) from the solenoid back/white wire spade connector. Clipped that up to test and cranked but no power to starter at all! I saw a car-style 20 amp inline fuse clipped to the frame with 2x red wires from somewhere in the spaghetti, checked, looked blown, replaced it, motor cranked over again but no start. Again, tried the extra ground wire from the small neg. solenoid terminal. Starter dead. Checked fuse again -- looks good, but no starter turnover at all. I'm worse off than when I started! Ideas? Any other fuses?

That's the point of getting rundown of all factory wires you can . The problem is unleaa it's identical to the system I had in front of me its tuff to gives suggestions each ayatrm can be a bit different. I will say this stop and take each component one at a time what will it take for this component to work and supply the wiring for it. I start at the plug, then coil or coils power them (ohm, check them vids online, which will show how) if coils work and have power, tou are almost home next it starter.

Nice video ! Thanks . As I sit here contemplating tearing every damn safety switch off my friends newer John Deere.I was going to just run a key on hit wire to the solenoid so it would work just like a 1960 's Ford . God Bless the old cars. Then I heard you say that the Mfgs are breaking the ground wire on some of the circuits now also . So that explains a lot ! The clutch engagement switch on the John Deere has four terminals but is set angle throw switch ,so maybe that switch breaks the ground to the solenoid ,hmm. Thanks for opening my eyes to a different potential issue.I would normally just eliminate safety circuit but its my best friends widow & daughters tractor. I got them an old gravely 2 Wheeler and made sure it had the safety features on it & even made sure they function. My old Gravely s are man eaters ,they will hurt you bad. So ,I am gonna try a by pass switch to solenoid that they can engage when it plays the occasional won't start game ,they an over ride.

hello, thank you for your video, I would like to ask you a question regarding safety switches and my questions are just for personal knowledge only.
If I was to avoid all the safety switches on my riding mower could I possibly, from the solenoids white wire trigger wire, wire directly to the S on my ignition switch??? And to possibly avoid the grounding of the safety switches preventing my mower from starting, could I wire my magneto wire directly to the M on my ignition switch, Bypassing the wiring harness that is connecting all the safety switches on my mower???. This is just for personal knowledge only.

As bad as I want to answer you I'd need to see it in front of me or a diagram..you can use the same on the start switch and place a dirt wire to the coil ground. The point is to pass it all eliminate everything ..make it run. Then come back and add start switch , on off buttons etc. It's easier for me to think in this manner I wish I could be of more help. Sir. I just wanted you to know that I typed up a novel of a comment to you and some how it didn’t post. 🤷‍♂️ I guess it didn’t want to post. I sent you that LONG LONG post because I’m having issues with my John Deere lawn tractor and you told this gentleman if he needed your help to just call you. I could use a hand with my dilemma, but I don’t like asking for help. I’ve been trouble shooting all day and I’m about to set this lawn tractor on fire!!! I’d never ask for help without doing my due diligence and homework first my good man. I’m just frustrated! These safeties will make you use cuss words that I’ve never heard before! 😳 Anyway. I won’t take up anymore of your time sir. It’s just your voice reminded me of my Paw Paw
and the dozens of things he helped me fix. Sure wish he was still here. Not to just help me fix this issue, but just still here...😕 I’m going to walk away from this beast for today, but tomorrow I will attack her again.. And... I will eventually WIN! She will not beat me!!!! “Why?!?” One might ask... Because my Paw Paw never let ANYTHING beat him.. And that’s a fact jack!!!

Sir. I just had to leave this lil nugget of info for ya. I lied to you. I’m so sorry, but I straight up lied to you. But in my defense, this is the lie. I told you I was going to walk away for the night. Well. That’s my lie to you sir. I DID’T walk away and guess what?!?!!!??!? I FOUND MY ISSUE!!! 🥰🥰🥰 I was wiggling the negative terminal coming off the battery and I began to hear a clicking sound. It was coming from near the solenoid area. Well. About 3 months ago I bought a new aftermarket transmission belt and it lasted about 5 mins before it popped into several pieces, a string in the belt got caught in my clutch and ripped the clutch wires slam out of the clutch!! AND!! SNATCHED THE WIRES OUT OF THE CLUTCH SO CLOSE TO THE RUBBER/PLASTIC BLOCK THAT I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO SPLICE OR SOLDER ME TWO WIRES TO THE TWO WIRES COMING OUT OF THE RUBBER/PLASTIC PART OF THE CLUTCH WHERE THE WIRES GO IN THE CLUTCH! Well. I was able to use a RUclips video trick to put two long wires on the clutch that would reach the two wires that they were snatched from. I drilled two tiny holes in the rubber/plastic block, slid my two wires up passed where I drilled my two holes, screwed two little screws in the drilled holes to mash the wire down onto the contacts in the rubber/plastic block. Been working just fine. Until!!! Well. I wiggled a clutch wire where I had put a wire nut on the clutch wire splice and every time I wiggled the clutch wire near that wire nut I heard that clicking near the solenoid. Either it was the negative wire itself maybe loose from the starter or that clutch wire loose inside the wire nut. Right now I honestly don’t give a poot!! It cranks now!!! I’ll make sure the negative terminal wire going to the starter or going somewhere back in the back is tight. But I think the clutch wire I had spliced with a wire nut wasn’t making good connection or something and that wasn’t satisfying everything so it would crank. All I know is something wasn’t satisfying!!! Ahhhhhh... 😛 Paw Paw.... I know you were watching over me this entire time!! You knew I would NOT QUIT!! AIN’T NO QUIT IN THIS COUNTRY BOY RIGHT HERE!!! Thank you Paw Paw.. Sorry for all the terrible cuss words that came outta my mouth.. I do apologize to you.. Grandma would have made me go get a switch from that hedge beside y’all’s ole house and tore my butt up if she had heard those words exiting my mouth!! 😳. But I know you understand... lol Thank you sir for listening and thank you RUclips. I will in fact be making my first video tomorrow sharing my experience so maybe it might help someone else. 😛 Ahhhh. Life is good!!! Mic drop.... 🎤
