    A very kind Gentleman. In the eighties he trained my chef at the green corner restaurant and helped me set up a Karaoke Bar in Nakuru. He is renowned for mentoring others. No wonder he eventually became so wealthy.

    A gem of an interview..Humphrey Kariuki is a resilient Businessman I remember days when Moi tried stealing his 2B in the 1990s at a time when such amounts were unheard of, that incident inspired many at a time when Moi was oppressing business people we used to go go green corner just to promote him and dream of us starting businesses ourselves ...He has been camera shy for decades but its good he is now sharing gems of knowledge to inspire future generations

  • @binkhalifa2004
    @binkhalifa2004 День назад +2

    I've always said the most successful Kenyans do not engage in corruption and therefore their businesses are long term and thrive. And spot on for the video highlighting the significance of small businesses. In the USA, the mom-and-pop shops (small, independent store or company) is one of the greater contributors of the economy. The USA government recognizes the importance of all small businesses and provides resources and tools to help them, not suffocate them as our government does. Most Americans are employed by these businesses and not the government and large corporations. If you want to increase employment in Kenya, support the small businesses. It has a multiplier effect, and the government will in the end collect more taxes from a huge tax base. It's a no brainer but for the Kenyan government, it's rocket science.

    Great nuggets of wisdom right there - one can tell that this man has gained a lot of experience and wisdom over the years and I'm glad you got to sit down and be chauffeured by him😅.
    I thought he'd say he's thinking of marine conservation down at the Kenyan Coast 😭 but it's okay; other players should also emulate him, he can't do it all for sure. On the same breathe, we really need to maximize on tourism as a nation since we are so rich in experiences and resources that can be utilized in enriching everyone just like he mentioned. May we explore that area more and grow as Kenya.
    Good job on the video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.

    ... Seatbelts is one of the most effective safety devices in vehicles, saving countless lives and preventing severe injuries in accidents, even in safari excursions. Don't ask how I know.

      They don't have to put on their seatbelts because they're not moving fast.

      @@samuelmungai6564 Of course they know but are being negligent. It is not safe to not wear a safety belt when driving slowly. Even at low speeds, injury or death can occur in a crash, and unbelted passengers are at greater risk. Additionally, you can be ticketed for not wearing a safety belt, whether you're driving slowly, or your vehicle is stationary.

    Regarding the most promising economy in the region, I thought he'd say Ethiopia. I heard that they're doing amazing things even though civil strife is sadly slowing this down.
    I don't think our manufacturing moving to TZ as has been happening is something to take lightly Manufacturing fosters efficiencies that unlocks bigger secondary/tertiary opportunities. It can absorb way more people than e.g ICT.
    I believe evolution has been a big problem in Kenya's economy. Things that were done at independence are still being done, the same way. We missed a big opportunity to become a destination of raw materials, and source of processed goods for the region (like Europe is).

    • @binkhalifa2004
      @binkhalifa2004 День назад

      Kenya is the most promising economy in East and Central Africa. Political stability, infrastructure development and its highly educated population and economic well-being of its population and general literacy levels are incomparable to the Kenyan neighbors. Kenya is the obvious choice for any investor. These factors take decades upon decades to develop and in the midst of political stability. Ethiopia may be doing amazing things, but it will never catch up or be anywhere near Kenya. Think of it like a country with 50 factories opening factories at the rate of 10 per year, compared to a country with 5,000 factories opening 3 factories a year. The latter is developing very fast .... you get the gist? Add the dynamics of political instability and wars ... and all the progress could be suddenly reversed ... and it won't be the first time in Ethiopia, like what is happening now in Sudan.

      @@binkhalifa2004 Alright, I haven't looked at the data lately. Agriculture is where they're making investments that could lead to them potentially out-competing Kenya in horticulture exports and maybe tea.
      They have way more land than Kenya under cultivation (up to 6x, I heard), and they're allegedly investing heavily into mechanization.
      Also, they have one of the lowest electricity costs in Africa. Maybe up to 10x cheaper than Kenya. The cost of their industrial labor might be cheaper too.
      That said, yes I imagine they're far less industrialized than Kenya. I understand Chinese companies are investing in factories there though.
      I agree that Kenya is far ahead in capacity for knowledge-based work e.g ICT etc.
