Burn My Eyes is a great album, I don't understand why so many bands insist on changing. My upcoming album was made to sound as much like Metallica's Justice as I could, but I'll be looking for my own sound for the second album, and I won't change it if I decide (if I'm able to) make a third album.

Necrotic Nick- Burn My Eyes is a classic in my mind in terms of 90's groove metal. It's one of the heaviest groove metal albums there is in my mind. I like Justice but the missing bass has always bothered me. Good songs though.

I have to be honest, I love those two Sabbath albums from start to finish. But I have a good excuse! They were literally the first two albums I owned. My brother got sick of me always going into his room to grab his records ( I was seven, I probably scratched them to shit) so he gave me those so I could have my own records to ruin. I guess he didn't like them either. Hahaha. But but those were the only rock records I had for a couple more years, and I played the FUCK out of them on my crappy SEARS record player. So they have a special place in my heart. Besides, owning any Sabbath albums put me ahead of most seven years olds. Hahaha

I agree with Bleeding Me on Metallica's Load. Load is not a great album, but I always defended Bleeding Me. Bleeding Me is just on the wrong album. @joshalan5125 2 года назад +7

First off, I completely agree with you on Dirty Women. Technical Ecstasy many not have been Sabbath's best, but that song was an absolute banger! Here are a few of my pics:
    1. Dio: Angry Machines- Hunter of the Heart. Angry machines is probably Dio's weakest album (saying this as a huge Ronnie fan) but Hunter of the Heart is a killer song!
    2. Children of Bodom: Blooddrunk- Hellhounds on my Trail. I thought this was easily COB's weakest album but this song was a BEAST on an opener!
    3. Limp Bizkit: Results May Vary- Eat You Alive. Ok I admit, Limp Bizkit has always been one of my fun guilty pleasures (you can thank my high school nostalgia for that) but this album was just terrible and most all the fun was taken out of it due to all the boring songs. However, Eat You Alive was pretty badass.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  2 года назад +3

Necrotic Nick- Dirty Women rules. I love the bluesy, heavy riffs on that one. It's the only one on that album that really feels like a Black Sabbath song. Hellhounds on My Trail is a killer, thrashy banger of a track but man did the rest of that album fall flat. I still love Three Dollar Bill Ya'll but honestly I can't stand much after that. I did buy Results May Vary when it dropped though and I didn't mind Eat You Alive when it dropped but I really can't stand it now.

I never understood the hate that Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die get. They're different, but still great rock records. Never Say Die has some filler, but I kinda like the jazzy feel it has.

      @thrallsofmetal  2 года назад +2

Necrotic Nick- I've tried so many times to really get into those but outside of 2 tracks on each one I really don't care them. There's too much of the "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" feel to both so the albums feel like a bunch of different bands. I think experimentation is good but this was a case where they strayed too far from what they did well in my opinion.

So glad he remembered Bleeding Me. It was one of two I liked and the only one I loved. Disagree with him about "Stain of Mind (agree its an off album) but I didn't really hear it til that live version on War At the Warfield--Tom blows a lung and half his spleen on it and its really fucking grade A Slayer under all its over produced studio counterpart. Necrotic Nick- Bleeding Me is an underrated song from a pretty divisive era of Metallica's history. It was probably the only one that really connected with me instantly. I love the John Bush era of Anthrax. I actually like a lot of tunes on Vol8.
No, it's nowhere near thrash , and it's got some clunkers, but i still dig it.
Maybe I wouldn't if it wasn't Bush. But his vox are fantastic.
Supercharger is fukkin ass, OMG. The Burning Red was taking a leap, Supercharger was your career jumping with a noose on.
Then he learned his lesson, made the metal again...... and then made Catharsis???
You get away with career suicide once, but twice? Smh
The World Needs a Hero is just boring. I HATE Risk. But the only real redeeming quality to TWNAH is that he was doing metal again(little did we know he was gonna flop back and forth for years after that(stylistically).

    Clearly they're a notch below 1-6. I'd say TE is a solid B, NSD a B-.
No, they're NOT doom metal, it's Tony branching out.

I forgot to mention another killer song off of a terrible album. Actually, I couldn't choose between the two, so I'm deciding to put both of them on there. Bad Religion's The Biggest Killer in American History and The Hippy Killers from No Substance. 2 fantastic songs from an awful album! My least favorite Bad Religion record. Worst part is that it was released in 1998, the same year as Sepultura's Against, Van Halen's Van Halen III, and Iron Maiden's Virtual XI. Such a letdown for me personally. Not every band is perfect. But I try to find a good song or two on a terrible album. But I hope that all of our favorite bands keep making music and it better be awesome!

Agreed on the Sabbath ones 100%, and Bulldozer from Supercharger. I've only ever listened to Diabolus in Musica once and never need to hear it again, I think Load while it's still not a good album by any stretch has a couple more songs that are passable, and the rest of them I've never listened to 🤣
I'd also say The Clansman from Virtual XI and Fear of the Dark. Both those albums are absolute gash otherwise!
Judas Priest - Blood Red Skies from Ram It Down, and even though I don't necessarily think Jugulator is a terrible album, Cathedral Spires stands up so much better compared to the rest
I also listened to Super Collider for the first time since I heard it after seeing this was going up and found that I actually quite like Dance in the Rain as a song. The ending of that especially is the one part that sounds the most like Megadeth on there! Vocal performance is fucking awful though, like his worst yet!
If you wanna stray from the metal realm I'd also say there's 2 good songs a piece from Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance by Genesis, and they would be Domino and Land of Confusion, and No Son of Mine and Jesus He Knows Me

    • @thrallsofmetal

Necrotic Nick- I thought about throwing in Fear of the Dark but I still really love Be Quick or Be Dead pretty much just as much so I couldn't narrow it down to just one. I also still love the title track off of Ram it Down so that'd also be a 2 piece since I love Blood Red Skies too. I might have thrown in Kingmaker or the cover of Cold Sweat from Supercollider but a cover might be cheating a bit. lol. I actually love Invisible Touch. The song Tonight, Tonight, the title track and In Too Deep as well the others. My ma jammed that one a lot when I was a kid so it stuck with me.

Good video! Can't say I spent much time listening to any of these, for some because I simply don't care for nu-metal, and for others because I tend to just jam their good ones.
That said, regarding Megadeth, two things: I'd say Dread and the Fugitive Mind is another great song off World Needs a Hero. I generally see the whole album as a flawed but promising start to Megadeth's return to glory, which would improve greatly on System has Failed and especially the underrated United Abominations, one of my favorite Megadeth albums.
Then there's Risk. Risk is pretty damn bad, yeah, but it does have Prince of Darkness, which is a lot of fun and a legit good Megadeth Song. Crush 'Em is also pretty good. The rest of the album is painfully forgettable though. Although it does have the distinction of not sounding as bad as Metallica's worst moments (St. Anger, Lulu). Risk is more forgettable than downright awful... like background music that doesn't earn the Megadeth name.
My contribution to this one may rile up the Amon Amarth fans, but I really have a tough time with their "autopilot" era after Surtur Rising, their last truly excellent album. One Thousand Burning Arrows is the only truly unique and stellar song on Jomsviking, an album that is otherwise largely... meh. It's not awful, but it's forgettable. The opener, First Kill, is also decent but not as memorable.

What I will say about Vol 8. is that it has 2 Dimebag solos that people don't generally know about: Inside Out and Born Again Idiot. Overall I feel like the album is trying to be a heavier version of "King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime" by Faith No More. Basically a variety of styles with punk tunes as pallet cleansers. It's nowhere near as bad as Stomp 442 and has some decently catchy tunes. Like you said, John Bush is a great vocalist but the hooks are hit and miss in general with the Bush era.
Catch me jamming Vol 8. over any Bush era Anthrax album though, I will go out on a limb and say it's better than Sound of White Noise and We've Come for you All. Probably an unpopular opinion.

Cryptopsy - The Unspoken King - not a good album but I still maintain that the first 3 tracks on it are pretty decent before it descends into what we all know. The opening track "Worship Your Demons" is actually a cool way to open the album, and had it continued in that direction I probably would've bought it. As it is, they would fall here but would pick themselves up afterwards.
Machine Head - Through the Ashes of Empires - again a bad album. "Imperium" is the only decent track on there. "Vim" is also okay but eh, the others are really subpar. Machine Head are good at being subpar most of the time, haha.
Origin - Omnipresent - saying it's a terrible album isn't right, but it's their only album I don't own. I found the songs here to be pretty lacklustre, however the last 2 (original) tracks were good, particularly "Malthusian Collapse." I was getting into the album when I first heard it once that came on, but the damage was already done.
Gojira - Magma - The start of their downfall for me, sadly. Everything here sounds like a worse version of every song they've done in the past. However "The Cell" is a pretty decent tune and the only one I regularly came back to.

Necrotic Nick- I thought about using Enshrined By Grace but in hindsight most of my issues with that album are the horrible production and just not being a great follow up to Gateways. Dread and the Fugitive Mind is a pretty decent song but Return to Hangar actually sounded like their thrashier selves more to me. I actually like that 80's Yes album a lot. My ma used to jam it all the time so it's kinda part of my childhood too.

@@thrallsofmetal I don't think that Yes album is their worst, I've just grown sick of a lot of those songs, as well as some filler tracks I don't care for. But Changes is my 2nd favorite Yes song so I thought I should mention it on the list for that reason

Static X "Get to the Gone" from "Machine"
Anthrax "Panic" from "Fistful of Metal"
Twisted Sister "Come Out and Play" from album with same title
The Black Dahlia Murder "Necropolis" from "Deflorate"

wooooooaw... I'm sorry man but saying Into the Lungs of Hell is the only good song on So Far So Good So What is objectively blasphemy. Set The World Afire, In My Darkest Hour, Mary Jane and Hook in Mouth are all amazing. I even like 502 and Liar, they're just ruined by stupid lyrics and unneeded effects like the car sounds in 502. I strongly recommend you re-listen to that album, the only crap song is the cover of Anarchy In the UK

    • @thrallsofmetal

Necrotic Nick- I really don't consider Machine, Sacrament, Deflorate, Fistful of Metal or even Megadeth's So far, So Good, So What to be "terrible albums" to be honest. Some of those are just weaker in terms of my favorites from that band. Mr. Bungle is debatable. Disco Volante is pretty weird even by Mr. Bungle standards.

So Far, So Good...So What?! Is an awesome album.
And just off the top of my head Kill Or Be Killed & The Fire Still Burns off of Twisted Sister's Come Out And Play are two more pretty good tracks. Come Out And Play is not a great album that I really revisit; I listened to it a lot in grammar school. But it has a bunch of decent tracks for what it is.

I don't think World Needs a Hero is that bad. Recipe for Hate... Warhorse is also good and I like Disconnect quite a bit.... I'm also a Megadeth Die Hard... As far as other albums you didn't list:
Anthrax - We've Come For You All - What Doesn't Die
Fear Factory - Digimortal - What Will Become
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon - Framing Armageddon
In Flames - Siren Charms - Rusted Nail
Machine Head - The Burning Read - The Blood the Sweat The Tears
    Sepultura - Nation - Nation
Testament - Demonic - Demonic Refusal

Necrotic Nick- It's not Megadeath's worst but it's pretty bad. I'm a giant Megadeth fanboy as well but I think TWNAH rubbed the wrong way since it was billed as a "comeback album" and it was pretty damn forgettable outside of a few tracks. Strangely I kinda like a good chunk of We've Come for You All but I'm a big fan of John Bush so that may have something to do with it. On Digimortal I probably would have gone with Dark Bodies or Byte Block. I still like those tracks. Exhale the Vile is a banger on The Burning Red as well and Who Must Die and Politricks on Nation are killer as well.

@@thrallsofmetal Exhale the Vile is fair for sure. In regards to Megadeth, I had to stop wearing their merch for a few years cause my friends would just scream CRUSH EM at me for a few years........ so when World Needs a Hero came out (which is mostly 2nd rate ideas they've already done better in the past).... it was a welcome relief to me man......

There’s so many songs that I like that are from shitty albums. The one comes to my mind first when it comes to that subject is Sacrifice from Danzig 5. Which is the worst album I’ve ever heard in my life. And I’ve heard some bad ones but nothing comes close to that one. It’s damn near unlistenable

I'm probably one of the few people who prefers St. Anger over Load and Reload. St. Anger certainly has problems, but at least it has energy. Other than the song "Fuel," I struggle to get through Load and Reload as I find them very boring. And I like ambient new age!!
As for the challenge, it would be hard for me to come up with 10. The only one I could think of (other than "Fuel" on Reload) is Dragonland's debut album "Holy Land." It's pretty mediocre power metal in the vein of Rhapsody of Fire, but at the end, they throw on this great cover of "Neverending Story," which I listen to on a regular basis.
Great video. I think I'd like to see some of the other Thralls try some of these challenges, as well!

Ok, I may have to check out that cover though since The Neverending Story was one of my favorite childhood movies and that song is permanently lodged in my brain. lol
