Be extremely careful when updating the bios if the power to your motherboard or your power supply cuts out during the update your motherboard is bricked it's no longer a motherboard just a chunk of plastic and metal it will no longer work so please be careful

When I had my computer built I have two data drives were set up as 'hot swappable'. I want to change them to 'non-hot swappable. My motherboard has the 'quick setup' and the 'easy' setup which gives you more control to the settings. The motherboard was put in about 2 months ago and it is: Board: ASRock Z690 Steel Legend I don't want to go digging around and mess something up.
Im on a bios version P1.20, am I able to download the latest version right away or do I need to download previous versions leading up to the latest version?? Also, the 2 latest versions are beta versions which i read isnt too safe to update to, so is it ok if i download the third latest normal version? I need an answer desperatly, thank you

@@SplashyPear my mobo came with v3.6.. i have tried updating directly to v8 beta also.. it worked fine. But I'm not sure you should do the same. It's always good practice to update to the next version and see if it fixes your issue, improves performance or causes new issues.
Do BIOS updates only if it is really needed, like whenever upgrading to the latest CPU or APU or facing any issues identified in that version. Otherwise, you can avoid it. If you are more concerned about this, just don't risk something which is already working fine.

But in the BIOS section, the lastest bios says that "Asrock do NOT recommend updating BIOS if you are going to use Pinnacle" (which is my CPU). I find a contradiction. You cant update BIOS without a supported CPU. You can use old CPU from computer store help to update the BIOS, BIOS update might make your new cpu support the mobo. but you need to see the support page to confirm it

It depends on the current BIOS version. My current BIOS version does not detect my pendrive but it detected a memory card in the card reader. Try multiple pendrive or card readers. Put in different USB ports.

Aint no way my cpu only accepts the first release of the BIOS and literally nothing else. Being every current download besides the base version not recommending pinnacle ridge. But my usable ram is limited and i assumed my bios version was limiting it due to it being old

Check your BIOS version, then check the support page which CPU supported for the BIOS version you have. You need to update your BIOS to the latest before putting a latest CPU in it.
@@badhusha.arabusha the manufacturer of the PC told me I didn't need to update bios as it's a fairly new board. Also the bios updates for that board aren't for anything related to cpu upgrade. UPDATE..I put the new cpu in and my PC isn't getting any power now. I have to take it in because I should be at least getting some power even if CPU isn't working.

I’m guessing if the ladder is the case then I would have to buy a whole new cpu and I for certain do not have the money for that. You can flash any version directly. But make sure your cpu is supported by that version.

Which update is best depends on your processor… you need to read the support site carefully before trying anything in your motherboard…

You need to check the Asrock site shown in video for this processor model and the min BIOS version required
