I've changed numerous tires in my lifetime but this one had me stumped because I couldn't get the release mechanism to unscrew. I feel so dumb because I was using the wrong end of the rod. Thank you so much for restoring my self esteem and confidence! Now I can teach my son's how to do this on their own...... without embarrassing myself 😂
Thank you!! Walked out this morning to see I had a flat and for as long as I have owned my truck, I never knew how to drop the spare. This was much easier than digging the manual out and reading through the instuctions.
Thank you so much for this really great video. We came out to a totally flat tire on our 2008 Frontier. I'd never even thought about how to get the spare down and I thankfully came across your informative video.
Thanks. 2015 frontier, just popped a tire on the way home in the rain, Ive used a jack plenty, but had no clue how to remove the spare. You saved my day!
Never touched anything to do with a tire in my 41 years, boyfriend and daddy have always done it... I know, pathetic! Anyway, watched your video and got it right down! Actually so proud of myself lol. Will change the tire in the morning when I have help to guide me as I'm scared to jack it up myself. Great video!
Thanks for posting. My spare was mounted the opposite way (outer side up) and my local tire store said when mounting it back with new spare, it could be mounted the outer side down, keeping the pressure dimples off the visible sidewall. Just needed a second confirmation. 👍👍
Thanks for the clear presentation. I want to check the pressure on the spare, and I'm glad to see its so easy. I'll put the crank handle on the other way, though.
Thank you!! I've had this truck for a long time, haven't a changed a tire in years, and have no idea where the owner's manual went so I forgot how to drop the spare.
Thank you for the video i came out of the gym and noticed a nail on my tire I was using the wrong end of the rod to bring my spare tire down now i know the correct way to use it 😅
If you have wheels with special nuts to prevent theft then you also have a special nut to lower the spare tire. It took me a few hours to figure it out, but if the T piece isn't working, attach it to the chrome looking piece in the tool pouch. It has the wavy circle at the end that engages the nut. Otherwise, it's the same procedure.
This comment just helped me so much, I was getting extremely frustrated because the T tool wasn't catching on anything and I was just cranking it like crazy. Thanks for the tip!
This is a great video, I looked before I tried to do this on my 2016 Frontier. Looks like there is a vinyl cover that appears to cover the top of the wheel I will look for that. Your wheel was stored with the air valve facing down towards pavement. I can tell that on my car from the factory the air valve is pointing up towards bed of truck. THE ONLY REASON I'M DOING THIS is to add air to spare so dash light goes out. Looks like I can put it back like yours. THANKS VERY MUCH!!
Had a flat. I knew I would need some help. Watched this video and so glad I did. You saved me lots of time and cut out lots of guess work. Thank you and God bless you!!!!
Thanks for the video,it simultaneously saved my ass and made me feel like an idiot at the same time...lol..I got home about an hour ago and as soon as I got out of the truck I heard the air hissing out.I checked the tire out and realized I had picked up an Allen wrench somewhere between work and my house.I got the jack out along with the lug wrench and attachments.I put the “T” shaped piece into the little slot above the license plate and dropped to spare to the ground.then I started inspecting the piece on the end of the chain and I couldn’t figure how to remove it.then I pulled out the owner’s manual expecting to find the instructions on how to separate the chain from the spare.unfortunately, those particular instructions did not exist.I started getting frustrated because I knew there had to be an easy solution..when I seen all it required was to turn that piece sideways and push it through the hole,I immediately felt like the worlds biggest moron 😂..such an easy, common sense solution and it never even crossed my mind 😂
Thanks! Been avoiding changing a tire that fully deflates every night because I couldn’t figure out how to get to the spare. Well at least now I also have an air compressor 😂
Thanks for the video. I recently picked up a 2006 Frontier and your vid showed me how I can get to the spare and check its quality and air pressure. Looks pretty simple. Hopefully I can engage that T-connector by feel since it looks like you're not able to see where it engages. And that'll help when one of the tires invariably goes flat in the dark! Why does it always happen at night?? : )
My Nissan is a 2000 Model Pathfinder wagon. I changed a flat tyre and when I returned the tyre to winch under the car, I forgot which way the spare wheel was facing, wheel face (Mag star) down or up. I see your spare wheel 'inside' faces (chain side), is up and the outer face is down (3:00). I checked on RUclips, none has a video of a '99-2000 Pathfinder about returning the spare wheel. Can you please give me a hint? Thank you.
I don't have a video for a 2000 Pathfinder so I can't say for certain but as long as it cranks up all the way, on whichever side, you should be good to go
I purchased 2020 nissan frontier crew cab from Auction unfortunately the tools have gone ? Where can I buy ? And is all that tool fit for all crew cab models
I would check with a Nissan dealerships parts department to see if the tools kits are something they carry, otherwise I would just search around online for them.
Don't make the same mistake I did. Watch this video before you have a flat tire. That way you won't be like me on the side of the road watching this video trying to figure out how the heck to get that spare tire down. Lol
This absolutely did not work. Its a nightmare not seeing and feeling the T part fitting into the groove and then releasing the spare. This is the worst design ever!!!

You already did.

The only video that shows how to pass the chain through the wheel 😅🎉😂😊😊
Wow. I'm ashamed to admit this, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get that spare out. Thanks for the video

If you put the tire iron facing outwards it’s like a handle and makes life much easier
Yes!

This saved the day thank you!!
You're Welcome!
Thank you, I was uncertain about how to get the chain off.
You're Welcome!
Tried this the spare had a ton of resistance and it snapped the t thing clean off
Easy to understand my friend
Glad it helped!
When you push the T-shaped tool into the slot, and turn it slowly, to lock into place, do you turn it to the left or to the right?
I think either way will work actually
Great. Beats reading the manual for sure.
Glad it helped
Good video. Now I know how to get out of this jam if I run into it.
Thanks
Very good tutorial. Easy and straight to the point!
Thanks!
Parabéns pelo ensino objetivo e fácil de se entender .

Super helpful, thanks!

So what do you use if you don't have the stock Nissan 3 piece rod set?
Cut the chain
Flag down another Nissan truck and ask to borrow theirs. This Tool also is factory in the following:
Toyota Trucks, Infinity SUV's, Lexus SUV's
Cut the chain
whats the largest size tire you could mount down there with a 16in rim?
not sure on that
I purchased 2020 nissan frontier crew cab from Auction unfortunately the tools have gone ? Where can I buy ? And is all that tool fit for all crew cab models
I would check with a Nissan dealerships parts department to see if the tools kits are something they carry, otherwise I would just search around online for them.
Excelente muchas gracias!!😜
Can you show where the jack points are located on the Frontier?
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
This was great!
Thanks!
How about replacing the chain if it is worn? Mine is 13 yrs old and don’t wanna cause an accident.
not sure on that - I have not replaced one

I spent more time than I care to admit disassembling the contraption to get the tire off the chain. I am quite possibly the world's biggest idiot.
at least you know now lol
Solo la practica no entiendo el ingles
I've been doing this for 45 minutes and the tire still won't come down 😐
There must be some issue with mechanism that lowers the tire.
what a pain that is if you aren't in on flat and level ground with good weather and lighting🤬
Agreed!
You left out location to place jack to raise the truck😂
This absolutely did not work. Its a nightmare not seeing and feeling the T part fitting into the groove and then releasing the spare. This is the worst design ever!!!
I have a 2003 only video I can find not helpful god damn it
Why do car makers do this? This is o dumb
Very helpful! Thanks for making this.
