    • @--Adam
      @--Adam 2 года назад +7

Yup. But saying "Defund The Police" to people who don't understand the whole concept of what it's about, you immediately lose them and turn them against the cause. It's a stupid phrase that has been co-opted and should never be used again.

@@peachesandpoets I disagree. I don't understand the term. "Defund" means take away funding. Without funding, the police force doesn't exist. So yeah, that terminology immediately loses my support. How "defund the police" is supposed to actually mean "restructure the police force to be better involved with the community" or whatever is beyond me. THAT is deliberately obtuse. (TBH, I think the originators of "defund the police" actually did want to dissolve the police force, but the unpopularity of that idea forced them to cobble together this obscure alternative meaning that makes no sense.)

We do not teach parents to read to their kids. We do not hold parents to the same level of responsibility as we hold teachers and police officers. It is a two-way street.

It’s the product of being molded into a politician. He has bigger aspirations than being Mayor, I guarantee it. However, he is just being concise in pointing out some flaws that are apparent to many people listening and have been for a long time. To your point, however, maybe a bit of a slower delivery would make the words ring truer (and sound less prepared) for those people who are either on the fence or oblivious to the concepts he’s presenting. As we have learned through studies regarding confirmation bias, the typical issue we see when parties disagree on a subject is a lack of understanding; more specifically a lack of engagement in the communication they are receiving. Those studies show that standard brainwave activity during a conversation where both parties agree indicates activity in all regions of the brain; when the same participants disagree on a subject, the brainwave activity in certain regions is completely eliminated. This indicates that during an exchange where parties disagree, the strongest neural pathways that represent our biases are more likely to be activated and tend to “help” us rationalize a perspective that we already agree with. As opposed to when parties agree, the brainwave activity visibly expands and represents the potential development of new neural pathways, AKA, intellectual growth.
Edit: in other words, find the common understanding in the basic ideas we present before we try to deny any truth to the other person’s claim. To this, I think the world would benefit from the Socratic method being deeply explored through Critical Thinking classes in all schools.

MeNwhile, the NYCDOE does not recognize dyslexia as a learning disability for special education services. That opinion has not changed in decades, probably wont change during his tenure when they realize how many special ed teachers and classrooms they have to hire and open up. At the end of the day, money talks.

Of cooouurse moral is going down in the NYPD with all the focus on changing poor behaviors amongst the ranks. Those veteran racist crybabies within the departments all over the country don't like that they have to clean up their BS.

@@werightnow Believe me, an an upstater I’d love nothing more than to have a cessation of our region away from NYC, which I concede will never happen, but why wouldn’t I want him to succeed?? After DeBlasio, it could only go uphill from here. I’m not saying I would have voted for him; I’d say he’s a liberal but not a leftist. BUT compared to the psychotic lunatics who were a part of his Democratic primary (including one who supported police not having guns), combined with the fact that Curtis Sliwa had zero chance of being elected, Adams is certainly the best option that could have happened.

If we could stop these greedy ass politicians from stealing from the American public. Stop them from pretending that they’re actually finding schools, knowing they’re lining their own pockets. Truly help these kids grow, understand them, stop judging them off misaligned characters and help them build characters instead. A mind is much much stronger than any machine. Focus the mind, the body follows. Focus the body and you’ll build great things. #Keepgoing Eric Adams NY needs you

    • @paulk5670

The government can't control how parents raise their children. There's a massive backlash any time they do anything that even appears to do so.
But they do fund and control the public education system, which is supposed to be a great equalizer and the public's lifeline to those children who didn't ask to be born into homes with generational poverty, drug abuse, etc.
So yes, I think focusing on strengthening that intervention is a good place to start.
