Thanks so much for the comments on NOT lipping large bass, I wish more people would learn this!
Why?
@@nathantidwell3197 Holding a fish by the jaw ("lipping") can damage or deform the jaw, especially if you hold it out horizontally. It's okay to lift it vertically to land it but support it underneath if you want to hold it out flat. Thanks for asking.
@@KstrSM15 yes sir learn something new everyday. I’ve lipped them like that my hole life, making a change🙏🏼
While it is better to hold em with both hands in some cases you have to lip em and you hold the fish vertically straight up and down not at a weird angle. But yes a really large fish should be supported
Thanks bro!
🍻
Thanks for swapping to bass for those of us out of the trout zone. It really has been too hot to fish midday here in Texas, was 108 last week.🥵 Caught a lot of nice ones yesterday evening. One was 5 lbs on your slider fly! (Thanks for that video also.👌) This evening I’m going back, trying for a 10 pounder..if I can be Huge enough! 👍 Have a great week Ben 🎣
Good luck man! Texas has some nice ones.
Probably the first person I’ve seen hold a bass like that during the huge fly fisherman intro
Lol. It was super weird!
Hahaha glitter boats. So hilarious. Love it bud. Stay Huge!!
Ben, I thoroughly enjoy your vids!! So entertaining AND helpful! Go figure! Keep em coming!
As always, great video! Alvins videos are awesome too. You guys are on my top watch videos on RUclips. You should’ve came to Texas to fish and film. That white shirt would be see through in a few minutes hahaha. Have a kickass week Ben!
Your vids rock dude, totally deserve more views. Stay Huge.
This is a really well made video. Love the cutaways.
Military just put me in Louisiana this year so I needed this, much appreciated!
Go hit those reds!
CourtBlass northern LA unfortunately haha but I’ll try to get down in the fall
Barksdale? This video was shot pretty close to there. Plenty of good bass fishing in the area.
Huge Fly Fisherman that’s the one baby! Got a lot of buddies that get out after em, I’m buying a SUP to get myself some more access. Time to get some huge bass thumb.
I really enjoyed this video lol. Thanks for the great tips! I have such a great time fly fishing for bass. The fly rod makes it extra special.
Love your Channel, it's the BOMB !!! Talk about holding you're attention, WOW !!!
Graphics are its own personality, Killer, and Educational... You Cool Beans ...
subscribed in the first 10 seconds. Love it man.. good stuff
thanks for cautioning on the thumb and vertical lift--no need to break their jaws
Keep doing your thing. Love this stuff.
I cringed so hard when I saw that trout being lipped
I hate seeing that! So many corn chunkers do it because they are used to bass fishing in ponds and that's how they see the pros do it on tour
Just found your channel already love it 🇺🇸🐟
My favorite outfit for fly fishing for bass is my old 8 foot 6 inch Fenwick HMG with an 8 weight bass bug taper fly line, 6 to 8 feet of 20 lb. test leader and my old Pfluger Medalist. This outfit has caught literally hundreds of bass, and I see no reason to change.
On a bass lake in Ontario and catching large and small with my 8 wt rod using both poppers/ frogs and some times sinking tip clausers. Good times!
"More funner"...love this dudes videos 🤙
Love the how to's. Any possibility of a "how to catch fish on a streamer?" series? I suck and need to learn
I’ve been waiting all week for this
Sweet vid. Stay huge brotha
I've pretty much only been using dragonfly patterns or Flatliners for smallmouth. I should probably switch it up since the fish went deep but its just too much fun watching them hit on top.
Can you euro nymph bass ? Awesome video . Gorgeous casting btw, I’m starting to forget what it’s like to actually cast . I need bass in my life .
Love me some bass thumb! Otherwise known as striper thumb here in Maine.
Lookin forward to Pt. 2
Finally caught some decent bass on a fly rod, I didn’t weigh them, but the apron on my pontoon measurements said 16, and 18 “ ! So happy, and yes, I did use my trout flies to catch them! Black with gold wooly bugger and green with black and flashabou wooly bugger, let it sink and wriggle it in the mid where you think they are holding
Great video 👍 muchos gracias
After I saw the shirt I was hoping you would throw in a slap lol.. makin davie proud 😂👍
Water temp here is in high 80's might hit 90ish today. Bass fishing is on hold til it drops, stressful for fish, and their skin gets frail, super easy to tear a mouth
Keep the videos coming
Bass on the fly!
It has been said that fishing the same water, a fly fisherman will catch more bass on a given day than someone using spinning or bait casting gear. The person using bait casting or spinning tackle will usually catch bigger fish, but the fly fisherman will usually catch more bass.
Saw some hogs today. While i was spinning down deep for cats. Next trip, popping fir hogs. Contra loma res, ca.
"If you only have one hand, leave the fish in the water." Haha!
Thats my favorite fish on the fly, I fish for them all the time in south texas
Lol! You’re pretty funny 😂 you got my like.👍🏼. That’s right some bass fisherman has big egos.
OMG I grew up watching Bill and Jimmy!
Epico!
Epiccc
Hilarious and very useful thanks. Stry yations lol
You got me as sub by 40 second mark! Lol
I live in the heart of bass country and I approve of this message.
🚀
Thanks Ben/ another winner( I must confess I’ve only fished for bass with bait casting gear. I repent
I’m in south west Louisiana. I’m new to fly fishing and someone gave me a 9wt. Is that too much? I can use that for red fish too right
That shirt is a must need
I can’t wait for more videos 😫 put the uploads into.... MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE
I love both species but pound for pound smallmouth kick ass but not quite as readily available as largemouth. In texas smallmouth are prevalent but not very abundant with some exceptions but most water bodies around here is largemouth territory and white bass (locally called sandbass)which are temperate bass
A davie504 shirt. Nice, ben
I have big bass in my state. Have a 6wt dedicated streamer rod with a sink tip for em.
PS - I do have a couple of those senko flies 😅 if it's silly and it works, it's not silly
Ive been considering a 6wt for bass or a 7. How big do you get with your streamer sizes?? I feel like the 8 might be too much for where I am fishing. I like as light of tackle I can get away with.
@@fairviewhomestead I keep my flies on the smaller side. (Those worm flies being an exception) I stay away from the huge bass bugs and mostly throw the smaller streamers like Woolly Buggers, etc. I feel like the 6 weight is fine but I do sometimes think a 7 would have been the best compromise.
Charsept right on. I’m kind of leaning toward the 7. Might do a little saltwater with it as well.
Looks like a Davy approved shirt
Bass rash!
A simple hellgrammite pattern will have all the bass coming to your backyard.
What is the point in sub surface bass. The blowup is the best part!
I use sculpin streamers for smallies
FYI, a lone star light hat has good bass mojo....Trust me. You’re welcome. (I’m sure it has fish mojo in general)
I just bought my first set of Simms waders. Am i a huge fly fisherman yet?
I don't know but you have more money than me😂
the worm flies work.. well.. like really well...
Love the shirt. Only slappers can understand. 👋🎸
Epico!
The worms are good if you want to get absolutely harassed by bluegill the whole time
Jerseys and glitter boats lmao
I’m 14 and don’t have a trout stamp, this will help
Been trying to work on my 8 wt the past few weeks now. Tossing those clousers and even the poppers I have are a pain in the ass! Trying to figure out how to load it properly and get that double haul down.
Put 9 wt. line on your 8 wt. rod ......a 9' ft leader , ( 4' of 50 lb. ) ( 2'ft.40lb.) ( 1'ft. of 25 lb. ) and ( 2' ft. of 15 lb tippet ) .Thats what I use for Smallies or large mouth Bass .....The heavier fly line will shoot out fast and long on your cast ..... and if you double haul even farther casting . Works excellent !!
@@Sirskibumsalot awesome thanks for the tip! I have the 50/40/25 set up going but will definitely try the 9wt line!
@@matthewbulsa8265 Yep it works and a great game changer ....have fun !!
Soft plastics on a fly rod are killer.
ah yes, a fellow Davie504 fan
I only lip the trout I’m going to eat. Is that i still wrong?
Tom cameo
Caught a small large mouth today on a walmart wet fly. I was going for bluegill haha
I missed the part about the ladder size. Will my 12' suffice or should I upsize to a 16'?
Depends on how huge you are.
@@HugeFlyFisherman 16' it is... Since my name is Ben and I am a huge fly fisherman
Do you know any durable bass flies that will last me a lifetime
Why don’t you lip trout? Honest question
Bro so many people catch small mouth and call then largemouth
I wish this guy got as much love like Jon B or apbassin because this guy is making really good content. Definitely better than Jon B or apbassin
Bass are fun on a fly rod no doubt:-)
I still can't control my 5wt, so I'm staying Small🤣
It's like RUclips can read my mind. Seriously
Ben, off the bass subject. What kind of socks do you wear when you are wet wading?
Anything tall.
0:57 i want this framed
Joe humphrey lips trout one of greatest in the sport let’s band him
In parts of Louisiana, they're mudbugs.
Who’s the guy I should visit after you??
davie504 merch i see
Went fly fishing for bass for the first time the other day. Caught 100 mosquito bites and zero fish. #huge
Don't give up! Try a #8, 3xl hook, black wooly bugger w/rootbeer crystal flash in the tail. Bass eat a lot of leeches, which that imitates. Tie on a zugbug dropper if there are bream about.
@@geraldg7420 Went out the other day before I saw this reply and ended up catching my first bass on the fly... and guess what? It was on a black wollybugger. Haha. Thanks!
@@fishbound2303 Fantastic! Only thing better is to have a big one explode a frog-lookin' popper!
Davie504 approved
Top water slaughter! The bass love to fight! Get it! 🥊🏆🥊
Its right here but it wasnt there
I went today and saw more copperheads than bass
PSA.... it's crawfish even in Colorado.....
Is that a Davie504 shirt?!
Jimmy Houston has a wig!!??
I’m so huge I was first
Is roy in any videos
He will be soon.
Ok because my brother is good friends with him
I have to wait a week for part II?? That's HUGEly disappointing!
I've caught several bass over 5lb. on size 10 wooly buggers on a 5wt. rod. Watching this video, I wonder if you've ever actually fished for bass on a fly rod, or just parroting stuff you've found on Google.
Congratulations and thanks for watching!
i like to use my net....
Lmao is that davie504 merch
It is.
NOT MASTER SPLINTER!!!
Does Davie504 bass?
