Much needed advice. I was kind of frustrated this morning after completed 30 days of exercise and diet thinking not much has changed largely ignoring the positives. Sometimes ur mind plays. Thanks for this reassuring words

It’s useful to keep in mind that our brains are hardwired to only pay attention to negative things. The whole job of the brain is to keep our bodies alive, and things that are going WELL aren’t a threat. That’s just one reason why we tend to magnify negatives and minimize positives.
If you’re on any kind of health or fitness journey, it’s sometimes really helpful to keep track of all the times you act consistently with your goals. The outcomes are not always predictable, and the timeline certainly isn’t predictable. There will inevitably be days when you just feel upset about something, and when that happens it tends to cast a gray pallor over our memories, and it’s easy to look at yourself and think you’ve failed.
Keeping track of what you do well can be a useful antidote, because you can look at the evidence and say “regardless of how I feel, I know I’ve been doing all these things, and that’s the best I can do.”

I just lost 6kg of fat over the last 3 months and gained 4kg of muscle weight. First I wondered why my weight didn’t go down but my clothes fit different. Then I got a new body analysis last week and got the results I just wrote. I’m still chubby but I am proud of myself. 😊

You’re right! It’s been 2 years since I’ve been mindful about my eating, buying very basic groceries and cooking most of my meals at home. I’ve lost a good amount of weight and I gave up weighing myself as I went XL to M size. It’s really not as complicated as I initially imagined. Love all your posts in IG ❤ from Malaysia.

I've started losing weight for the first time in my life, 31lbs lost in 6 months (avg 1.2lb per wk) , people are noticing and I can't help myself but say when asked, its been so easy/doable. I feel like I could eat this way for ever but I know I must annoy the shit out of everyone! 6 months ago I really didn't think weight loss was something I could do and certainly not without mammoth effort!

I am on SSRIs and antipsychotic medication. I also started binging around 2019 after starting medication. Between early 2019 and late 2020 I ballooned up from 150 lb to 215 lb and have been 220 lb for most of the time since. I've tried diets, including low carb and calorie counting. Just recently, I started with simply developing healthier habits, such as no soda or soft drinks, less fast food and mindful portions. The weight is coming off very slowly but this time, I'm sticking with it and trusting the process.

Slower = Longer, Sustainable Results and a happy life cause you diet flexibility.
Faster = Quick Results = Back to old habits and you learned nothing = Gaining the weight back and an extra 10 = Back to the beginning.

This is great, thank you. Ive decided to sort my overly emotional relationship with food. This was always going to take a long time. So far I am down 20 lbs but whilst some may be frustrated with the timeframe, it's what I need: to get used to my new relationship to food and to build new behaviours whilst not punishing myself. Thanks for the common sense. Its rarer than it should be! Being kind to yourself whilst losing body fat should be a priority. It's hard, man!

Thank you for this. It is absolutely common sense, but some of us need to hear it. The saying "patience is a virtue" is for real yet so hard for some of us to do. Listening to you sensibly explain slow and steady is refreshing and motivating. I value every instagram, facebook, youtube, email you share. Thank you from Canada!

Thank you! Please, hoping as many people will see my comment. A best friend of mine tried one of these 'crazy fast' diets (trying to impress a girl at the time). His metabolism was starting spiraling down at such speed he ended up in the hospital. Was there for months. Anorexia hit! It was and IS a miracle that he survived. One by one, his organs were shutting down. Will never, ever forget the day we went to speak with his parents (hospital visits were not allowed). They were literally preparing themselves for the worst case scenario, according to, at that point, the lab and other medical results. Again, never ever will I forget that. Hope this will help, esp the younger people. Wishing everyone all the best! ❤

As someone who is currently on a weight loss journey, we still need to consider sustainable practices since weight loss entails lifestyle improvements and striking a good balance.
I started last November 2023 at 95 KG and I’m now at 83 KG due to 5 days a week at the gym and intermittent fasting. It’s considerably fast but now, I am slowing things down because at 34 years old and being 12 KG lighter; my fitness need to be adjusted and I also want to enjoy life by having the occasional feast or drink.
Life is short and happiness is also a good form of wealth. We need not be too rigid to live healthily. Weight loss and living healthier, in my opinion, should be a long-term process.

Love This, wish it could be made more aware to people wanting to lose weight , it’s so sad when the weight creeps back on , and for some they never try to lose it again because they lose all belief that the proper way slowly but surely will work. I am 75 and lost 1 Stone = (14lbs ) in 15 weeks and feel Amazing I Am on 1,500 calories a day =10,500 a week, and I enjoy all the food I like and even enjoy Wine at the weekends, I love tracking my calories, it gives me leeway to enjoy all food and Drink. Got the Fitness Chefs 3 books which are Awesome and on my Table permanent so I can check out things I want ., Thankyou Fitness Chef xx

Hi!!! I follow you on Facebook and Instagram and I've read your books and loved them. Been doing the calorie thing for 1 and a half year and lost 9 kilos like you say with a small caloric deficit... but now i'm stack... can't do it anymore in order to loose, only maintain my weight... I have a very active social life and I eat with people out all the time. (And for sure I need to lose some more weight)... How can I increase the calories I burn (after years of dieting and slow down my metabolism)? I trust your answer... Probably exercising... but how much and what and how often? because there too we hear the extremes... thank you so much!!!

I'm working through breaking bad habits. I am an emotional eater. I also have terrible body image. I've been sucked into fads, but not to a detrimental point (I thought about keto but quickly drew a line!)
I'm 46. I'm 5'5" and 150 +/- pounds. My brain thinks I need to be 130 pounds, but it's impossible. I'm learning to be ok, but I also never really feel like it is ok. I'm sure my age is making it impossible to get there. Hoping a healthy balance will slowly change things but also working to be ok if it doesn't...but is that ok 😢😅

Well I think I’m a bit anorexic then because I’ve been intermittent fasting for a few weeks now and started only eating a handful of fruit, but got way too weak, so now I only eat ramen noodles with some broccoli twice a day while intermittent fasting, so roughly 1,000 cal per day and I’m 190lbs headed towards 120-130lbs

I have told many of my clients that much of the fitness industry can be summed up by the following statement:
“Hey! I have the solution to the problem I’m going to tell you you have. I’m going to sell you this solution to the problem I will continue to tell you you have, forever.”
    This is wonderful stuff.

blah blah blah. what is the hard part of doing a normal diet for your new weight after the crash diet?
doing slower you will have to do it anyway. you can do both faster. the crash diet and the new maintenance diet.(for crash diets is good to insert re-feeds(days or weeks it depends how hard is to be on the diet.) )
diets don't work because people are weak and want to do some restriction and get back to living the way that make than fat.( being fat is easy, and very comforting i know i do it.)

But diets do work. People follow set rules on a diet and lose weight. When they stop the diet they often gain the weight back. Yes it is possible to do a diet and then eat normally as long as you don't eat more than your body needs.
From a long term point of view it is better to start doing what you can maintain long-term as you'll likely have more success.
