I wish I had seen this video five months ago when I started my weight loss journey. I’ve always been obese and on this particular day I woke up and decided I’m going to start going to the gym at 5 AM every morning and count calories and I’m gonna lose weight and be skinny and my life will be perfect. I cannot tell you how depressed and frustrated I was those first few months where the scale is barely moving. I had no understanding of how all these things affect weight. I just thought it was as simple as eat less and you’ll lose weight every day. I had to throw my scale in the trunk of my car to stop myself from obsessively weighing in every morning. I was driving myself crazy. But somehow through the disappointment and feelings of failure I’ve stuck to it and have lost 30 pounds in five months. It’s been slow but steady and I’m now realizing that’s what matters
You´re amazing how you put everything into words and into perspective. I lost 13 kg (just over 28 pounds) over the last 6 months while eating pizza, drinking full fat milk and having a social life (it still surprises me how many people think you can´t eat regular food when losing weight). I weighed myself every single morning and just like you, I fall mostly into the 'muggles beware' group :) I admit that I had a few panic attacks with these weight spikes, but most of the time I could work out what the reason was. And even when I couldn´t, I just kept going and I always knew the weight was going to fall off in the end - I kept losing about 2 - 3 kg every month). I am still losing some fat, but my main focus now is to gain more muscle to shape that butt (and everything else) and just to be happy and healthy. I just wish I found you earlier because I would have saved myself some panic attacks and would have laughed along with while watching your inspiring and entertaining videos. Great stuff, Jordan! You're funny!! I think you forgot to mention hormones too, especially for us ladies. About a week before my period, I gain a significant amount of water weight. This last period, I dropped 7 pounds of water weight overnight, and I confirmed this amount with a scale in the morning and 9 trips to the bathroom all night.

I've been following you on IG for a while and have thoroughly been enjoying the HP comments and the exercise info but this video was very informative and motivational and your facial expression when you said plateau is what made me subscribe
There are so many reasons like you mentioned, that go into why the scale weight fluctuates. For most people, even if they know all the reasons can still be really frustrating. What I find is a great addition to weighing your self, is to weigh yourself daily, take the average, and only compare your averages. Now for some if you are weight training you can actually gain muscle at a surprisingly fast rate, so alongside taking your daily weight, also measure your waist weekly. For every 1 cm you drop off your waist is equivalent to 1 kg/2.2lbs of fat loss, or at least very very close to. The best practice is to do this same day same time each week preferably Thurs fri before the weekend when most people are social and eating different types of foods. Hope this little tip helps someone :)
I have commented before but I am part of a IF weight loss group on Facebook and I have linked this video to them SO many times. It has helped so many people including me. Thank you! You are my hero!❤❤
I’m late to the game here. Stumbled across your IG yesterday and have been watching your YT videos today. This video in particular had me in tears. I finally felt my frustrations heard and it gave me the motivation to keep at it when I don’t see the scale budge or go up a little, even when I’m working my ass off. Thanks so much. Glad I found you!!!
This is the best video I have seen around this topic. The scale has been my nemesis for most of my life. You and Susan and the members of the IC are helping me break the hold it has. This challenge and your videos have been so eye opening for me. I can't thank you enough for everything you do. Love you!! YMF ❤️
I've been inputting my weight every single day on a spreadsheet for a month now. Keeping it consistent with my workouts and nutrition (sometimes I have cheat meals). I fall under muggles beware category. There are times I felt sad because of the numbers were not going to but I just kept going. Today my weight finally went down after a week of spiking then stagnation. Then I came across your post on Instagram. This enlightened me and added clarity to my fitness journey. Thank you so much for this informative video and I hope everyone watches this!
I so needed this video today. Thank you so much. I have been on point with each and every component of weight loss that you can conceptualize (calorie deficit, 7-8 hours of sleep, good amount of protein, 12k daily steps, strength training 5-6 days a week), and yet, I'm not losing any weight from the last one week. I have been beating myself up like crazy for not seeing any shift on the scale but this video has given me the hope to continue, persist, and remain patient.
I lost 100 lbs in 6 months and this month I only lost 2 . I'm trying to keep my head up cuz I know I cant lose another 100 lbs so my body has got to slow down a little bit lol. I watched this while working out and it made me feel better. I'm def the last style of losing weight .
Me too, the first 2 weeks of my weight loss journey I maybe lost half a pound. On the third week, I “gained” 2 pounds. Then one day in the fourth week the scale dropped down 10 pounds. It’s crazy after watching this video and seeing it. The following 4 months the exact same trends. The scale never drops each week and actually gains by the third week. I think this is common for women too. Down 40 pounds in 5 months, got 60 to go.
Love this video! Very well done! This is exactly what most people need to know. The past two years I have used the scale as data points. It was a game changer. I know longer get attached and emotional about fluctuations. And have seen huge progress! You are my hero. 🙏 Thank you for these videos!
I had to paus the video and just comment this, I think this is the realist advice I've ever seen I know im late discovering this video but holy shit all the ones you said are soooo accurate in my experience specially other nutrition coach on youtube. Anyway here's your sub, gg mate
I found you today and im binge watching your video’s! I frigging love your harry potter refrences and your no b.s. but kind attitude. Thank you for what you do.
This information completely changed my relationship with the scale, which by extension kept me from giving up and changed my life. I cannot thank you enough for this video.
I’ve been plateau for 2 months now but still can’t give up, and not changing anything I’m doing. Eating balanced, strengh training and doing cardio at a level that isn’t burning me out (Because I still want to enjoy it). I am deeply convinced that it will pay off. Because I know my body is getting stronger and my health is getting better. Keep trusting the process guys. We are in no rush ❤
@@annemariea7742 I was finally out of the plateau and loosing weight then got pregnant 😂. But so far so good. My first trimester just ended and I haven’t put on any weight and I have maintaned my muscle mass despite not working out.
Omg I needed this video I spent 3 weeks without losing anything and then 3 pounds down the next week and then with no change again. I was like there is noooo way I’m not in a deficit 😤
I'm a new follower and I'm hooked. Everything you say makes so much sense! Oh, and your face when you talk about a "plateau"...I can't even. I laughed out loud and re-played that part at least 5 times!
Cannot say enough how much valuable information is in this video if someone is scale obsessed which I think is pretty common. Just go great, thank you! 🙏🏼😍 Also, for the shout-out on winning the T! 🙋🏻♀️
I am on a weight loss journey and have been for half a year (sounds better than 6 months LOL). I found you by searching for 'science of weight fluctuations'. Thank you for explaining it clearly. Also, I gave you a subscribe the second I saw you named trends with Harry Potter themes. So awesome!
Dude, I have been following you for YEARS, and finally stumbled across this video! Thank you SO much for this explanation! I have been on my fitness journey for a year and a half now, and have lost 61 pounds. My weight loss has followed the Muggles Beware trend and I never knew it! Sure enough, over time the trend is DOWN!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
The way you put it into words is beautiful. Couldn’t have found a better way to explain it. I recent just hit a dull moment in my fat loss journey and watching this video really helped understand why it changes so much so often. Thank you for your videos ! It reminds me of high school with the expo marker and the white board ! And I’m on the other end taking notes 😂
LOVE your videos, Jordan. The quality and the amount of useful knowledge you give to us with everything you do is PRICELESS. Really, and I wanted to thank you because I feel so, so, so grateful for having found you on Instagram a couple of days ago. I have been reading your articles and doing your Powerlifting for Fat Loss 30 day challenge and I have also challenged myself to maintain my calorie deficit for 90 days. I feel that you're my friend haha, so, again, thank you. I cannot even imagine all the effort and work you put give so much to us! 💗
If there's anything I've wanted badly, it's a routine for normal people to stay healthy. I ain't looking for drastic changes or to look bulky in 3 months. All I wanna do is have a normal life, eat pizza and a healthy physique. Love what you do syatt, you changed my life!! 😁
I’m two weeks into my weight loss and for the first time since i started I weighed myself today, I was up 3kg even though I’ve been eating less and exercising six days a week, I literally started to have a panic attack and pity party but something told me to hold on to my panic and check the internet for any answers as to why I have gained and here I am. Calm and cool as a breeze when I was panicking 19 minutes ago. Thanks. Knowledge is power
This video is incredibly helpful. I don’t know why everyone isn’t talking about the process with ups and downs because it makes so much sense. I think about how many years I wasted being frustrated because I didn’t understand it. (I thought the only ups and downs were yo-yo dieting which I personally know is awful.). Thank you so much @Jordan for sharing your wisdom. 🙏
Agree that gains/stalls in weight doesn't mean you should stop, or that you're not making progress. Disagree that it doesn't potentially call for some adjustment. No acknowledgement of metabolic rate adapting to caloric deficit in an effort towards homeostasis. You could argue that you can still persist as-is, but if it's a metabolic slow-down, it can take months to give way, maybe longer.
Wow, the best video I've seen on this subject! For me the key to getting through this is to make sure you are getting positive feedback in other ways. Regardless of what the scale might say on a daily basis, eating healthier makes me feel better, walking an hour a day makes me feel better and my waistline is smaller.
As always, what a gift you have to explain complex topics in an easily understandable way for the lay public. Also, your face every time you say "plateau", priceless! Haha!
This is a really great video! As a person that weighs herself everyday, i also saw the patterns you showed here but am very very fortunate that I noticed the trends early enough to not make myself lose the motivation when I was seriously trying to lose fat. This is a great educational video, because I sure wish I saw this when I was trying to lose weight years ago but just couldnt do it right! I was just impatient
Thank you so much for that video! Logically, I know everything you have said but it is always good to be reminded that what is happening to me is normal. I will be watching this again when I start to whine about the next stall. Love you! 😃💜🦄
I love your videos ...I've been in the fitness industry for 33 years and did a few body building competitions...and your facts on weight loss versus fat loss is spot on....a good thing to do to track your progress is to do weekly measurements as well...its always nice to listen to someone who knows what he's talking about.....thank you for posting such informative videos
Weight fluctuations are kinda like the stock market. You wouldn’t judge a stock based on its price on one particular day, but rather the trend. I’m a finance geek.
💙 love this and your videos! It really hit home for me as I’ve always given up when the scale doesn’t go my way. This time though I have been patient, consistent and accountable and I’m nearly at my goal weight for the first time in over 20 years! I cannot thank you enough for keeping it real whilst promising results that aren’t by a quick fix, fad or con but by commitment to a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Thank you Jordan much love from good old Blighty xx 😘🇬🇧
Realivate and on point and the first I come across to break it down and explain weight loss types as a pattern. I have stop and started so many times, with this video a light just kicked on to review my days and I fit in the first category. Frustrating as hello, but now with this understanding and acceptance Im armed to keep the course and succeed. Thx
It's really common for those who are obese to lose weight faster at the beginning of a weight loss journey. It takes more energy to move 300 pounds vs 150 pounds.
Yaaaaas another giveaway! Would love a t shirt! Thank you for this, I really needed to hear this just like I need to hear everything else you have to say haha. I LOVE salt, so it makes sense as to why my weight fluctuates so much.
Such a great video. Needed this today because I’ve been on a “plateau“ for 3 weeks and while I know to just trust the process, I needed something to really hammer it home.
Hero! Thank you Jordan as this has been great to show my clients. Discovered you 2 days ago and best discovery of my year so far. You're very real and down to earth. Easy to listen to and present very well. Never change and keep doing what you do best. X
Thank you Jordan! This has been happening to me, but I didn’t know why...but I knew there was a reason. I have been careful about what I eat, and exercising(no snacking). This is a relief. Reverse dieting was a new concept, but I remember after a hard workout I was craving something sweet, and I binged on blueberries, raspberries with honey. The next day I expected the worse, stepped on the scale and found that I was lighter than the day before. Who knew? My body knew what it needed better than I.
A new subscriber! I found this extremely helpful I fall into the first two categories and I always end up slacking when I don’t see the numbers dropping. Motivated to never quit again. Thank you 🙏🏾
Thank you so much- I needed this. Was pissed off all month why the unexplained 7 lb weight gain and yet my body fat on the calipers is still the same?!! I kept changing my macros and yet I was still gaining weight. I didn’t allow enough time after each macro change to see a difference. I’m going to watch your videos every time I hit a wall so I don’t flip out and make a change out of stress and impatience.
BY FAR the MOST helpful and informative video I've seen regarding weight loss and weight spikes. Dumbledore's ladder is my trend Haha and I always thought it had something to do with water retention between fat loss. Thanks for backing that up! Keep doing what you're doing, you are awesome!
Thanks for the explanation. My weight loss graph looks like yours (third graph). My cycle of weight loss is one day, it has a sharp drop after which it goes up again and stays up for 3 days, and then it goes down again, but this time a little lower than the first drop. I tend to look at the trend every 2 weeks, which is always lower, thus confirming I'm on the correct path. I suggest measuring your weight daily since it is a good motivational tool. However, the lower the body fat gets, the harder weight loss is going to get, which requires good consistency and a good plan.
Video is a year old but just watching it. Love love love your content!!!! I weigh only about 2 times a year. Doctor visits. I go by pics and how i feel. Less stress by not focusing on the scale. Trust the process
A huge salute to you big brother. I have been in my fatloss journey and it's going great and it is what actually you say. If we loose quickly we gonna gain quickly. It's a process we should enjoy and keep consistent towards our healthy lifestyle. It's should be the scale it should be who we are becoming in the process.
Im glad that i found your video!! I just started to freak out seeing weight going up and down and up again😭 but now im cool. Just need to keep going on what ive been doing. So informative. Love it 😊
This was an excellent video, thank you so much. I was on Dumbledore's Ladder for a year before the spikes finally broke me, then I gained a ton and am now losing it again. So this has come at just the right time. Thank you for the insight!
This is so helpful!! I definitely fall into the muggles beware trend. This info definitely helped me feel more grounded and realistic in my fat loss goals moving forward!
Oh man GREAT video! So glad I found this. I have lost 66-67 pounds since last July with another 15-16 to go. I am the 3rd chart you drew up to a freaking tee. I mean I dropped so much faster in the beginning but still was in that same pattern of number 3. Now when I got down to the last 20-25 pounds is really where that drop, stay roughly the same and then drop a bit, then stay the same hit. Its like step on the scale, hit another milestone down, the muddle around for a full week or two, then drop 2 pounds again. I was 205.8 a week and half ago, I have basically stayed at or around 206.0 to 207.0 since then. I bet by Friday this week I am at 205.0. Its almost like predictable pattern at this point which I take to be a good thing. Is it? I want to be 190, that is the goal. Started at 272.6 Oh I weight myself every single day. I only started that 2 months ago though. Before it was weigh in on Monday and Friday.
I have been weighting myself practically everyday at the same time for the past 2.5 years. As I wake up after peeing. The only way to see weight differences is by comparing week averages.

This was an amazing vid! Everyone says weight loss is not linear, but never heard it being explained like this! Really helped me stick to the path
I love the duck quacks every time you say the "f" word. And "plateauuu." LOL Your content is soooo good. "You'll never fail as long as you never give up."
I've been following you on IG for a while and have thoroughly been enjoying the HP comments and the exercise info but this video was very informative and motivational and your facial expression when you said plateau is what made me subscribe
Natasha Hahahaha that makes the whole video worth it!
our bodyweight constantly fluctuates due to many factors. Great video! learned a lot of new things! Nice editing work Rico!
getting fit with Paul thanks!!!
thanks bro!
I kinda already knew all this, or at least suspected it, but actually hearing you talk about it and explain it make me feel a lot better. Thanks, J!
Thanks for this info🙌🏼. Helps a lot. Im losing waist and hips CM but not weight YET 😅
@@Iviie15 you’re welcome! Keep going! Waist losses are better than weight losses
I have commented before but I am part of a IF weight loss group on Facebook and I have linked this video to them SO many times. It has helped so many people including me. Thank you! You are my hero!❤❤
Gah! Makes so much sense! Thank you for shedding truth on this emotional journey!
Tess Moore thank YOU, Tess :)
Glad you found me, as well :) Keep me posted with your progress!
Awesome video. You are ridiculously good at breaking things down.
Louie Griffith You are ridiculously good at commenting and it’s much appreciated :))
Louie Griffith man thank you so much. Can’t even begin to tell you how much I appreciate your kindness and support
Rico & Jordan I appreciate all the work you guys do I’m looking forward to the seminar tomorrow. See you there.
Louie Griffith see you there!
@@Griffithfitbjj see you there man!
This is the best video I have seen around this topic.
The scale has been my nemesis for most of my life. You and Susan and the members of the IC are helping me break the hold it has. This challenge and your videos have been so eye opening for me. I can't thank you enough for everything you do. Love you!! YMF ❤️
Kathy Teeter love you!!!!! YMF!!!!
Chason my friend, thank you so so much!
One of the few on RUclips that gives correct information. No fads, straight facts,
I so needed this video today.
You explain weight fluctuations better than anyone I've heard to date.
Thanks!! You're totally on point!
This is THE best RUclips video I have ever seen! - coming from a person who’s emotionally affected the scale - main message just don’t give up!
I lost 100 lbs in 6 months and this month I only lost 2 . I'm trying to keep my head up cuz I know I cant lose another 100 lbs so my body has got to slow down a little bit lol. I watched this while working out and it made me feel better. I'm def the last style of losing weight .
Yup see you lost 100lb from a body that had 100+lb to be lost...but now your body has lets say 10lb more to lose, then surely the rate will slow down
Me too, the first 2 weeks of my weight loss journey I maybe lost half a pound.
Wow that’s amazing 100lb in 6 months it a pro good job
Thank you bro . Your one of the very few useful guys in youtube.
Utham Mahalingam thank you so much my friend
I'm in love with the way you talked about the "plateau" 😂😂😂
*Camera focuses*
Hahahaha
Yes I died lmao
I love your face everytime you say "plateau" 😂
Yes! 😂😂 Had me cracking up!
plateau! LMAO
This is literally the best video I’ve ever seen on weight loss. SO HELPFUL!!
Love this video! Very well done! This is exactly what most people need to know. The past two years I have used the scale as data points. It was a game changer. I know longer get attached and emotional about fluctuations. And have seen huge progress! You are my hero. 🙏 Thank you for these videos!
Glad that this video helped you!!
I needed this 20 minute pep talk...thank you!!!
Michelle Simon thank YOU, Michelle ❤️
Jumping to emotional conclusions!!! Story of my life! Thanks for this, so timely.
You’re welcome Marilou :)
I had to paus the video and just comment this, I think this is the realist advice I've ever seen I know im late discovering this video but holy shit all the ones you said are soooo accurate in my experience specially other nutrition coach on youtube. Anyway here's your sub, gg mate
This is one of the best fitness channels I've seen on youtube. It's a crime that you have less than 100k subs. I'm telling everyone about you!
Branden Turner hHa you are incredibly generous thank you so much!
I found you today and im binge watching your video’s! I frigging love your harry potter refrences and your no b.s. but kind attitude. Thank you for what you do.
This information completely changed my relationship with the scale, which by extension kept me from giving up and changed my life. I cannot thank you enough for this video.
Stay consistent, never give up and you will WIN! Thank you Jordan X
Any update? Would love to hear how your journey is going now?
@@annemariea7742 I was finally out of the plateau and loosing weight then got pregnant 😂. But so far so good. My first trimester just ended and I haven’t put on any weight and I have maintaned my muscle mass despite not working out.
Truly blessed by this, thanks for breaking it down Jordan 🙏♥️
Omg I needed this video I spent 3 weeks without losing anything and then 3 pounds down the next week and then with no change again. I was like there is noooo way I’m not in a deficit 😤
I'm a new follower and I'm hooked. Everything you say makes so much sense! Oh, and your face when you talk about a "plateau"...I can't even. I laughed out loud and re-played that part at least 5 times!
Cannot say enough how much valuable information is in this video if someone is scale obsessed which I think is pretty common. Just go great, thank you! 🙏🏼😍
Also, for the shout-out on winning the T! 🙋🏻♀️
Gina Viel thank you so much, Gina! And congrats on winning!!!!
Jordan Syatt Thanks so much!
Sure enough, over time the trend is DOWN!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I’m 45 yrs old and I’m a Harry Potter nerd!!! I loved this video!!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Irene Flores Campos thank you, Irene! Keep me posted with your progress!!!!
The most important video you’ll ever see about weight loss process! Thank you for this and for all the others
Glad you enjoyed Rotem!
If there's anything I've wanted badly, it's a routine for normal people to stay healthy. I ain't looking for drastic changes or to look bulky in 3 months. All I wanna do is have a normal life, eat pizza and a healthy physique. Love what you do syatt, you changed my life!! 😁
Kaveri S that means more to me than I’ll ever be able to fully express. Thank you :) Always here for you.
Me 2
I’m two weeks into my weight loss and for the first time since i started I weighed myself today, I was up 3kg even though I’ve been eating less and exercising six days a week, I literally started to have a panic attack and pity party but something told me to hold on to my panic and check the internet for any answers as to why I have gained and here I am.
Best video I have ever seen!! Thank you so much!! This video motivated me to do better and never give up.
Haha!
Thank you so much Mariana :)
Love you! 😃💜🦄
Rose Spector hahah good, Rose!!!! Love you :)
Guy is a genius , so much sense. I won't give up and he is the reason. Thanks a ton Jordan
Weight fluctuations are kinda like the stock market. You wouldn’t judge a stock based on its price on one particular day, but rather the trend. I’m a finance geek.
Im def the 3rd one. I always track daily but have just started a secondary tracking once a week. Best of both worlds.
Thank you for this video. I’m on a weight spike despite being on a strict calorie deficit. This is the encouragement I needed to keep going
I love your personality! You’re such a good teacher. Love from Manchester :)
:))
Everytime I get frustrated I’m just going to rewatch this video. Perfection. *chef kiss*
Jordan the man! Always such good content. Hilarious names. Quality + Humour = I'll keep coming back for more
Shane Turner haha thank you so so so so much, Shane!
Thank you sooo much!!! I can't believe I'm stressing out over this 2lb weight gain lol.... it's been 3 days & the scale is not moving
I freaking love you...you make MORE sense than anyone I've ever listened to. And that's been A LOT!
sharing this to my WW support group. There are so many people who stress over weight fluctuations. Thank you Jordan!
I can’t tell you how extremely happy I am to have found your page!!!
Yaaaaas another giveaway! Would love a t shirt! Thank you for this, I really needed to hear this just like I need to hear everything else you have to say haha. I LOVE salt, so it makes sense as to why my weight fluctuates so much.
annels thank you! And yes that impacts it *a lot!* Not a bad thing - it isn’t fat gain - just important to remember
Such a great video. Needed this today because I’ve been on a “plateau“ for 3 weeks and while I know to just trust the process, I needed something to really hammer it home.
I love this guy!!! Answering all the observations from my head !!!❤❤🎉
Thank you 🙏🏾
Thank you Mila!
Glad this helped Catherine!! :))
Love it 😊
Same. I've been on the same weight (average) for 2.5 weeks now and was wondering if I'm doing things right
This was an excellent video, thank you so much. I was on Dumbledore's Ladder for a year before the spikes finally broke me, then I gained a ton and am now losing it again. So this has come at just the right time. Thank you for the insight!
A Pooh and a Uni go up a mountain you’ve got this! Now you know what to expect :) you WILL come out on top I promise
This is so helpful!! I definitely fall into the muggles beware trend. This info definitely helped me feel more grounded and realistic in my fat loss goals moving forward!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. It gives so much insight and information. And it brings me some peace of mind in my journey.
I wish i followed him during the time i lost my weight😢im going to follow his blog now and remember all the things i have learn from him.Thank you Jordan..keep up the good work❤
Thank you for this simple to understand content. All the points provider are great.
this video has motivated me to another level! I was sensing a "plateau" during my current deficit program with good training. Thank you for this!!!!
Just wanting to binge watch all of your videos! So perfectly explained. Thank you for sharing all this knowledge with us!
Thank you for calming me down
The way Jordan said "plateau" lol
