The most original and genuine conversation I have ever seen on a talk show, you gotta appreciate Trevor guys seriously.
I know, right? He was so engaging and genuinely curious.
He’s the best
@@coffeemom1229 thank you John Stewart For all you do
@@coffeemom1229 This is not a contest, they're both great separately.

I have to say, Trevor's show is EVEN BETTER now than it was before he took that long break. He's doing some terrific work over there! 💯
Any news on mandating of vacs? all quiet? Police brutality in NZ and Aus? Conflict of interest leaks of Faux, FDA and CDC? Or how Faux tried this global mandate back in 2000s based on no scientific evidence? State capture all over the world? No? Oh. Almost like the governments want us to give them more power to censor and monitor our communications, while scapegoating private enterprise.
He absolutely is. I love how he allows guest to fully share their thinking process.
@@malumachado4561 what police brutality are you referring to?
I live in NZ and I am not aware of the problems you are bringing up, do you have a link to any evidence of this?
@@hongkongfueynz3071 no the homie just wants to say a bunch of bs and dip.
Oh please Malu Machado, like “private enterprise” has always been so sympathetic to the working class! Are you kidding me? GTF outta here with that capitalist bs…..
I really enjoyed the low pressure banter afterwards, you could see the conversation really open up once there wasn't a clock pending.
If America had a social media shut down for 3 months, there would be a lot of self-correction in society.
You are absolutely correct.
India please. We have a whole lot more people and we can't really afford to wait for the trickle down effect.
I think we'd see a lot of anger and violence first
@@MadAboutBrows nah... there’d be no way to trigger all the hogs without all the online dog whistle posts. I’d love to see it happen honestly. I’m hoping a massive solar ejection wipes out the whole system for at least a few weeks for a reset button.
my dream
I love how you interview, Trevor! Thought-provoking questions and get out of the way. It's lovely!
Seriously? He barely lets the guest let's their thoughts out. Always feels need to some insincere and uncessecary comment
It's the journalist's / interviewer's job to guide the conversation in a limited amount of time. I think Trevor does a great job.
It's almost like ... real journalism! 😮🤯
So rare to see these days.
@@josephroberts8344 wow....there are people who will have your perspective.....when he's literally the best listener out there.
In New Zealand it is illegal for bar staff to sell alcohol to visibly intoxicated persons so it can be done. You're on the right track, Trevor.

@@poojaotari8287 I'm thinking it is to do with time zones as noticed that stuff before. I'm in New Zealand.
Trevor plays devil’s advocate in the best way possible. Super interesting conversation! Well done
Thats why i respect him even if his not for the idea he will still throw in a question forr the opposite side so you see and undelete they maybe coming from...
The full documentary is on Netflix's YT channel for free.
"the invisible hand of Mark Zuckerberg"
I think I can feel it now... So clammy.
eeeeeeeeeeeew
lolol thank you i needed that
Don't forget lifeless
Trevor wishes it was the sweaty fingers of Andrew Cuomo 😂
Yes I prefer the warm hands of the state 🥴
If this dialogue was longer, I would not mind one bit.
This one was great. There are more podcasts, where he was talking for hours, for example on Joe Rogan's and Sam Harris' podcasts.
same!
We need more tristan Harris and Frances Haugen
The part after the actual interview was the best part.
Man…Trevor. Trevor’s interviews are *always* thought-provoking and/or fun. He and his team are (chef’s kiss) crème de la crème!
I quit facebook a couple of years ago. Haven't been tempted to go back. Life is so much better without it.
Me too! I saw the documentary and instantly felt i needed to get out.
Social media is Pandora’s box. It’s already been opened.
Pandora's box is a thing created by humans...
The problem is the company is trying to be two different things at once but they need to choose. Are these published writings that can fall under libal claims or a market place that can be audited or just a place to play. Social media is too broad of a business and everyone is using it for something different
I think collecting my information and requesting more should be harassment!
IT was awesome how they kept going after the "break" and they decided to show us more.
Trevor's question about how can we change the laws around Big Tech when Senators don't know what an app has an easy solution: TERM LIMITS. There should not be octogenarians, who have been in office for 30+ years, running the country. The idea was citizen lawmakers, not career politicians.
Its not just children and teens that are affected by body image issues or depression. It affects adults too. Infact probably far more.
How so?
TY, Ms. Haugen. Finally someone speaking out against big tech like FB. I'm elated it went down for 6 hours. But I bet you it altered their algorithms AGAIN...🤔
The key is transparency: every person should have the right to know the criteria in the algorithm that is being shown/not shown to us. We should have individual rights to set and know what is shown to us.
Absolutely spot on. Conversations are the life blood of democracy. If there is someone(even an algorithm) which is deciding which conversations are getting highlighted for everyone, we need to know how they are doing so.
we are primitive people, living in a medieval society, with access to godlike technology and it's painfully unhealthy
access to information is great.. but access to voyeurism, vanity, and constant ego-fed narcissism is almost literally destroying our culture from within
Yo I love that hoodie Trevor is wearing
I concur.
I sincerely hope that’s not the only thing you got out of this interview
Anyone know where one could grab one?
I sincerely want to see a fashion show of his hoodie collection. 😂
Nothing like Burberry 😘
Using FB for just messages now. I fear if I scroll down the news feed, it'll be like a never ending rabbit hole, and then 30 minutes later, won't have accomplished anything
That was exactly WHY I did what you are, bc I would lose 2-3 hours in what FELT like 20 min!
Plus, really didn't want to lose friendships. I believe MOST of the conversations should be held in PERSON, NOT on a platform or a text where your tone is lost! Esp since several of my friends and I are flyer in Sarcasm and that is VERY hard to decipher on posts and texts. Was spending too much time arguing misunderstandings.
I rarely miss it- only the memes and the TRUE updates & accomplishments in people's lives!
Yep, This is why I only use Facebook a couple times a month, and keep my eye on the clock when I do.
Don’t use Instagram or Twitter or any other social media.
I will say on Facebook defense though - I’m disabled and there are several groups on Facebook that allow me to connect with people all over the country, and world, with similar health conditions. I think if it weren’t for this, I would ditch it entirely.
And keep in touch with family and friends the way I always have, pre-social media (yes I’m middle-aged 😉)
Trevor is the most prolific interviewer ever I love his way of questioning
My favorite is his interview with Ellen where he admits he’s a cuomosexual
The problem isn't "technology," it's optimizing for profit above all else. Top-down authoritarianism can't fix this, but neither can capital.
You are correct. And your name scares me.
Actually, we can fix it. Making the company a non-profit-organization, which means no shareholders can withdraw the profits, more transparency, more supervision from society, and they have to take responsibility. Otherwise, we can sue them to get compensation for everyone. Wait, until you realize this is an idea from top-down authoritarianism China. I can't believe how racist the US is now.
If only schools would teach critical thinking skills, knowing what to believe and how to question, instead of memorization. Looking at some of the videos of recent school board meetings it appears that the parents and non-parent activists provide a challenge to the school boards and teachers since many of the parents aren’t critical thinkers.
Education system is number one problem ☝️ 💯
The problem is, the technology moves faster than the education. We could teach all the critical thinking skills we wanted to, and by the time that generation was of age, social media companies would have figured out 15 new and different ways to manipulate us. We're not being given the chance to adapt to these new tools and the algorithms that fuel them.
@@adamswiderski4897 that's not how it works. Critical thinking requires that we ask questions and process the information presented rather than accept it whole cloth. No algorithm can overcome that.
Finland actually has a few years ago, and it really shows in their response to the pandemic. Recommend to look it up
Americans don't want critical thinking. Brain hurt too much for them apparently.
This has hands down become my favorite The Daily Show interview!!!
I hope you’re right that the FB whistleblowers testimony is finally a turning point. Also, I loved your description of their squirming to get you back by sending an email, Tristan just commented on you...’. That’s motivating me to shut them down and see what happens. Thanks!
💯🥇 “An EMP attack on Culture” - exactly!
it's crazy that there are so few studies on the impacts of social media in the academic field of psychology... Crucial subject.
....there's actually a lot of studies.... Lol

@@poojaotari8287 it is because i saw when was available only from clicking the link .... (sorry my english btw) :)
I cant feel thats strictly true. Technology is just an addition that widens the reach of propaganda, misdirection and idiocy so you dont know what or who to believe.
I tend to look at it as entertainment not to be taken overly seriously mostly. But its also given the wide usage a way if you dont watch news/television to see what is being discissed in social media. Ie what they on social media think is relevant compared to some things that might be more so but repressed in the news
This is an eye opener for me and it really involves the whole world. The government should investigate the people involve to avoid a more chaotic scenario in the future.
This needs to be a PSA
Trevor: Please never stop wearing hoodies!! You elevate it, cause it fits you perfect.
Loved the discussion afterwards
Trevor is brilliant generally, but I particularly love when he covers 'big tech' issues. So thoughtful, balanced, and informative. Keep up the great work!
GET RID OF RECOMMENDATIONS AND NEWS FEEDS. Just let people curate what they see, instead of ‘recommending’ things to them. That’s where a lot of the problems are. It isn’t organic.
But they want your undivided attention for as long as possible... They want you to become addicted, to always need more. That's where the recommendations come from.
Sidenote: that hoodie that Trevor is wearing is fire.
He did say he'd be keeping the hoodies when he returned... It's working.
Thank you. Honestly, these interviews are so important.
Well done and very helpful. Thanks for posting!
I love these longer segments! Thanks Daily Show 💓
I love them talking nuance .... Americans have lost their ability to compromise and negotiate, and they dont see that things arn't usually all anti-something or pro-something .... I wish Mr Harris would have given us a better picture of what a more stable fair yet open democratic social media would look like tho ...
Key point indicators should be rebalanced, and honestly the sooner they make Facebook a utility, the better it would be for everyone, particularly if they buy out linked in or indeed or some other job application processor app.
You are spot on. We have become intolerant of nuance. Folks confuse shady with shaded. They get violently angry. This is the new binary. We have to do something.
Makes me want to check out his podcast for more
And that's also the point of the conversation right? that this viral engagement and control in the background shaping folk's thoughts, behaviors and beliefs...it's hard not to get polarized. we all have similar trigger buttons and the AI has discovered what they are! Imagine what this can do to the generation that didn't grow up with technology and can learn to read between the lines of what is just there to be click-bait...my mom has fallen prey to that as well.
Thank you as always for thoughtful and well crafted journalism.
Trevor, you are a gem! Thanks for taking on the difficult dilemmas of our time and challenging people to deal with them honestly!
Trevor asks a question and actually listens to the answer...so rare these days!
Tristan Harris has a great podcast. Well worth listening to. Think it's called Undivided Attention.
This interview is just not long enough. Such great questions! Thank you for having him on and please have him back. Hopefully things will get better for people on social media.
Great conversation! By sharing his own experience, Trevor gives a lot of tangible context to illustrate Tristan's points. Well done!
This is a great conversation. No yelling or cutting each other off I could actually SEE both people listening without wanting to speak
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you for what both of you do!
Wow thanks so much for this. Very enlightening
This was the most intelligent and informative conversation on this subject I've seen. Many very valid points to think about. Thank you.
Thank You!
So important in our time. Thank you for this interview!
For the last few years, I have limited my time on Social media. I unfriended and sometimes blocked anyone that was posting polarizing political propaganda on Facebook. I quit commenting on anything that was polarizing. I started hiding anything that was negative in nature. Several years later, all Facebook shows me are kitty pictures, doggy stories, and smiley faces. I guess they realized that was all I would interact with, so they now fill my feed with that kind of stuff. Oh, and I no longer have any friends that talk about politics of any kind! Haha! A few have friended me thinking they had accidentally been unfriended. Nah! They got the message because they no longer talk politics on Facebook.
Super-smart way of hacking the algo!
Same!! But I didn’t do it on purpose…I just joined Instagram last year to follow my fav band…watched some videos/pics of animals/nature/cute babies/planet earth and was never recommended anything else. I’ve been so captivated by the stunning images I’ve seen (nature is insane y’all!) I never bothered to look for anything else…it’s actually been a pretty awesome experience.
@@jalabi99 it's not hacking, if you engage with political content in the algal will feed you political content and if you don't then it won't.
Why do people get a lot of political content, because they will engage with it if they see it. The same thing happens on RUclips. If I click on any remotely political video, it will feed me more of that contact and if I click on it and I say that I'm not interested in seeing this time tonight again or don't recommend me anything from this channel it stops.
Surprise, the majority of people want to see political content, and they will engage with it
Thank you for this gentlemen
Thank you for this great conversation!
Thanks Trevor
thank you for the education and hope
This makes the best of your updates.
Trevor thanks so much for having Tristan Harris on your show and delve into details. This topic is beyond vital.
Thank goodness for Tristan Harris. He has a unique ability to explain/frame whatthehell is going on. A voice we need to hear as often as possible please.
Love the setting man, love the casual vibes.
A place to talk human to human and try and see if we can get to the root of an issue, so we can act on it.
Like everyone else saying here, you are making the show into more and it's deeply appreciated.
Same with the "behind the scenes" series, with a growing need to work on having to humanise each other more, what beter way than to lead by example.
You should all be proud of the work you are doing.
Thank you for this extraordinary conversation.
This is a fantastic interview. Excellent points.
Best episode I've seen this year so far.
That was an awesome maneuver you pulled, Daily Show team.
This is exceptional and informative for sure. Thank you. 🌋 Mind blown and informed. Thank you for these very needed conversations.
I learnt a lot from this great conversation. Thank you Trevor!
Very insightful
“catastrophe land” …that’s funny
Facebook has donated _vast_ sums of money to both political parties. So while I hope Tristan is right in saying Haugen's testimony is a changing of the tide... I'm not holding my breath.
What a great conversation. I learned a lot, thank you Tristan and Trevor.
Great interview. Thanks.
Trevor, your team is a healthy mind keeping force. What you guys do is medicine one have to work with. Thanks a lot!!!!
Thanks for creating this content 🙏🏾
Great conversation
Trevor’s interviews are fantastic.
Great discussion!
I feel that these are conversations that need to be had with our youth at schools across the country . Specialty with all the mental health issues these teens face today . Ive always wondered what China’s end game was . It looks like their just playing the long game and waiting for country’s like ours to implode . While they put restrictions on their youth and focus on education trying to see who can colonize Mars first
How can I work with this guy.?. he is awesome . He have responsibility towards Society..
Excellent conversation about identifying the problem with social media and an approach to solve it without oppressive intervention. Well done! 👏👏👏
Tristán and Trevor... thank you for confronting these issues

Truely the best discussion...Trevor is the best...
This is so informative. Awesome interview.
The last part is so true
Thought-provoking questions after the social dilemma. Fantastic, Trevor
Thanx!!!👍👍👍👍
This conversation sheds lights on reality of Social Media apps.
Loved it!

Excellent Tristan & Trev - working against "crazytown"
Awesome interview
I love this new more intimate format.
Wow! Perpetuating Chaos . . . That's some profound insight , there.
He’s absolutely right
Thank you, Trevor. As a data professional, I agree with everything discussed, and I genuinely appreciate you bringing it up in this way. People need to know.
I feel like everyone needs to hear this
No one in my recollection believed any act could respectfully follow Jon Stewart, me included to an extent, but Trevor Noah isn’t just some carbon copy wannabe; he’s his own brilliant recipe of genius perfection!
Well done, Daily Show. 💟☮️☯️
Seeing all this stuff makes me kinda glad I stopped using Facebook years ago. I tried Twitter and gave up after getting almost addicted to the engagement I got from browsing the trending topics. Now that was me actively looking for topics and occasionally getting them from voice actors and other people I followed. It would’ve been worse getting them directly from an algorithm without me looking for them. My brother still has an account for memes but seeing everything I’ve seen, I don’t think I could deal. It’s not worth it.
I’m the same, I’ve been Facebook-free for almost 2 years and I’ve never felt better.
I don’t find myself drawn into unnecessary online conflict and get angry over what I was being exposed to.
Super interesting!!!
Great interview!
