- I bought a broken PS4 off GumTree for AUD$45 (USD$32), that reeks of cigarettes and aftershave. Sold as "fan not working" and with missing parts, a previous repair attempt was made by the owner.
Can i save this thing?

This was like a resuscitating a dead man with organs missing. Mad respect for resurrecting this unit.
Haha thanks 😄
My blood pressure drops 10 points watching your videos. Pure ASMR. Attention to detail and meticulous cleanup and repair is so soothing and educational.
Wow that console was FILTHY! Great job getting it running again.
SPOILER ALERT!!
Bruh This dude brought a PS4 from the fallout universe
I have one on 5.05 that had a nest of roaches inside before apparantly being just put out in the rain. Its rusty as hell, and still smells pretty bad.
Epic Win🤣
Dumb comment this would be a gold mine if you found this in fallout fallout is in Apocalypse a nuclear apocalypse
22:41 a professional.... 🤗🤗🤗🐕🐕
😄 he got some nice treats for that 🐕
The old owner must have been a barbarian, cat hair and various crap everywhere even where a sane mind would never imagine!
I can understand cat hair or dog hairs in the system. But the fact that it was dirty with more than that on the inside was bad
I myself have a goddamn cat even he loses but never got the hair on the console i clean it everyday don't where the fuck does there money grow im telling it was kid who owned this previously
methhead
They literally tried to super glue electrical wires
@@oodfty3740 but super glue is SUPER conductive 😉
I have a dog and my PS4 is clean as a whistle the previous owner was a jerk
Ah yes super glue and electrical contacts, works perfectly for me everytime. Also may I suggest a detailing brush for all the little crevices, works way better than tooth brush.
Thanks, I will get some 👍
@@RestoreTechnique did you put a hard drive in it?
@@triggerguy8405 Yes I did
@@triggerguy8405 did you not watch the video?
@@MrJamesstott From what I saw Actually I don't think he did. He only put that 4 GB thing in it so it can run. But he did because Crash worked.
A moment of silence for all the ps5’s that people won’t keep clean
Facts then they wonder why their console gets loud 🤣
Ps5 is more difficult
@@alipetuniashow not hard to keep clean tho
@@alexisblanco6088 or you could just put it in a room with an air purifier
Don't you mean scalpers won't keep clean?
Watching you disassemble the device piece by piece is such a pleasure....and fixing it ,is just another story.
Great job.🙌
The only thing that bothers me is that you didn't solder a new connector for the fan and solder the wires directly to the board, but you did a great job of restoring it.
Excellent restoration! I really liked the process, good job! I enjoyed it very much! Greetings from Uruguay!
Thankyou! 😄
🥵🥵
@@elgringoxd8276 u good?
Should have put the whole shell in the sink
@@RestoreTechnique Is not a Repair
This was so much better than i expected - really well lit, filmed and edited and a great restoration! 🥇
I just don't understand how people can be so damn neglectful and careless!
I treat my PS4 like a princess!
I would use gloves. That thing is gross.
No wonder why new diseases pop out of nowhere 😂

Any moment now... he's coming...
Who's coming?
The Ducktor!
Oh sorry, wrong channel!
😂🤣 the doctor was wating for him too
Awww. Using your dog as a product tester… I love that
😀
Fantastic job man! That PS4 surely is in the right hands now 👍🏻
Definitely wasn't expecting this quality video from a channel with only 18k subscribers! Great work, you deserve way more subscribers! And cute doggo at the end! 😁
Thanks so much 😄
That is one filthy PS4 it's good to see time and effort to restore it
I always think of myself as a filthy animal that don't care about my electronics then come across this type of videos then I start cleaning every single one I have lol
😆
This reminded me of a dude I bought a not working car off of. It wasn't starting and he wanted 100 above scrap value. He didn't know what was wrong with it and refused to let me take it to a mechanic to see if it was worth my time, wouldn't let me see I the engine bay because "it's a $400 stop wasting my time" I couldn't see any oil leak and it had been sitting for 3 weeks so I bought it. The seats by themselves would have gotten me my money back, and the panels were dentless.
When he signed all the paperwork and said "have fun" I called my cousin to bring his tow truck and looked inside the engine bay, his wife came out and told me that the car randomly cut out and she took it to her mechanic who said the wiring harness was rusted and it was gonna be a 5k fix (This doesn't make sense) so I looked at the battery and it was loose, I tightened it and jump started it. He came out cussed me out and demanded more money, I explained to him I might have considered telling him his mechanic was a scum bag if he told me what they thought the issue was. He didn't say what it was, and in the ad it said he just couldn't get it started suddenly.
I may even have tightened the one screw and put cardboard under the battery for him to take it for a test drive.
I would have been considerate if he wasn't so rude and abrupt, wouldn't even let me look at the engine.
I probably wouldn't have bought the car if I knew the oil sump plug was stuck on with silicone.
His daughter was thick tho
I wish I could do that with my ps4. I didn't know they had these issues and bought one off of a dude, it turned on and I played Minecraft and Netflix for 5 mins. Now I can't even get God of war started
Im glad you got this and fixed it. Much more respect than its previous owner.
Thanks 🙂
So I was unlogged, but when I saw the professional smell checker I just logged and smashed the thumbs up!
Yooo. This channel is actually pretty legit. Keep it up bro
Imagine supergluing wires and thinking that it’ll work wtf
I admire your patience 🙌
Thanks 😄
So essentially someone with no knowledge took this thing apart thinking they could fix it. Sad to say the least.
Lmao glued the cable
They literally could have looked it up on the internet they obviously didn't care enough probably bought another that's about to get the same treatment
loved seeing that professional at the end
Great video loved the restoration I also loved the bit at the end with the doggo😂 I liked and subscribed hope to see more like this in the future keep up the great work
Awesome, thanks heaps 😄
You could buy an ssd drive to make faster loadings and smoother gameplay. Very nice restoration!
I wish I can learn to do these type of things, I don’t think I’m delicate enough . Beautiful restoration.
Thanks Beardman!
Great job! I wish I was smart like you to do something like that. You’re the man!
Wow, I can't imagine the total hours it took you to clean and fix all of that. Good job. I would have given up on that disc drive, so difficult to clean all those little grooves and holes. I also really like the look of the white fat PS4.
Thankyou 😊
i have NEVER been more disgusted at a console in my life 🤒
Oh and love your video's guy. Glad to see people take their time and do a professional clean up and the console! Do you have any videos of your worst consoles lol?! That i would love to see
This was great I'm trying to learn how to work on this kind of stuff.
You should tell the previous owner who owned this console that, this is how to rebuild a PS4.
They tried to glue the cables back on 😂😂😂
You know you're a professional when you have a dog assistant that checks if your gear smells of cigarettes
"Smells like cigarettes and aftershave" greatest description we all have a clear image of previous owner add in the stickers and the image is complete lol
😄👌
When he opened it up at first I thought “yeah that’s way past the old rubbing alcohol treatment”, then he started washing the plastic in the tub 😂
Impressive!!! Loved the pup at the end lol
Great vid dude. Your editing and quips were on par too. Great job!
Thanks! 😊
I'm from Mexico and I liked your content, greetings :)
It's a good video, but what about the fan circuits? Do u have to unsolder and solder it each time trying to clean it? Can u have a replacement for that part?
I'm sorry but it really bothers me
Yes you would need to desolder it to disassemble it. I should've searched for a replacement fan connector, but most users are not taking their console apart, so thought it wasn't necessary.
@@RestoreTechnique thank u for the response and transparency
Beautiful work. I'm subscribed now and enjoying all of your wonderful videos.
Cheers!
That's amazing. Taking apart even the inner parts surely requires a lot of expertise. How do you know your way around the hardware so well?
Google
"It's just the fan"
He need to clean and add some other parts coz they are missing
"But is the smell gone?" "I called in a professional to check." *Dog sniffs*
🐕😀👍
I bought a fat ps4 with the hdmi connector ripped off.
I managed to repair it by buying a new connector and soldering it, on the other hand I realized that there was no more wifi antenna.
At the beginning, I had put a wifi antenna from ps3 fat then I decided to install a wifi antenna from a laptop pc because it is much thinner and since then, it works very well.
Thank you for your very informative video.
That's great, cheers :)
I love it, the replacement parts.... "thingy"
😁 hehe. I was then worried that some people wouldn't know that ODD meant, and thought I was saying it's an odd bracket.
I messed up the timing of the HDD, as the text appears before the clip starts.
You do great work man, thanks for content. Keep up the good work, it's very informative! I loved the dog piece at that end! That was cool! All respect coming all the way from Harlem, New York.
Thanks man 😀
I appreciate the help of the professional!
Previous owner was a straight up heathen
That PlayStation was very grateful it met you that day
you get 2 likes, 1 for the great video itself and 1 for your lovely doggo!
Hahaha that's a horror story. I did quite like the stickers on top ☺️Good work.
If you gently pull the impeller of the fan up, does it lift away from the base? A lot of laptops have fans of that style, and I've found it really useful for cleaning them. Hope that helps (you clearly know what you're doing, I only learnt that trick myself recently).
Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure, I will try it next time :)
Just came across this video and you sir deserve my subscription.
Made me wait to can my own ps4 and xbox out lol thank you for the video
Thankyou!
Super glue as thermal paste very innovative
Awesome video 👌 📹
Can tell the dude has smarts and some good tech skill. I love watching these kinds of videos! 😎
My first Gen PS4 was white and in Top Condition. Sad to see this one in such a disgraceful Condition. 😞
The dog at the end made me subscribe
😄👍
You know, The thingy behind the PS4 is the Wi-Fi Antenna I guess | On Hotspot, it can only Receive on Mobile, it receives 400Mbs Per Signal. Lots of Parts have been misplaced from the Unit. Caked up with some dust and other. Missing a hard drive, You could try to get a 1TB Hard Drive. More Space for the PS4. NOTE: I own a PS4. No problems, Good life, and had 1 or 2 Issues. Power Startup. Like, When a power outage strikes, you get a Power Warning.
What a clean boi here
I'd definitely trust you with my shit! Very satisfying video BTW.
I wish someone would fix my heart like that
🥺🤗💙
Try therapy
11:37 what did you use to clean that rubber thing where the disc goes in? great video :)
Just warm soapy water (dish soap). It's felt, not rubber.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that IPA is good to use on electrical areas such as mother boards.
That's right, it's the best for cleaning electronics. It's non conductive and leaves no residue.
Great video! May I ask what air tool you use for the dust and hair, and what kind of tool you used specifically to clean the fan? Thanks!!
That is nice that it works as well the smell is gone btw how did u learn ur dog for doing that amazing ! 👍
Haha thanks 😀🐶
Ah yes. Me watching a guy clean a dirty ps4 at 3:14am
😃👍
That fan connector left me feeling a little dead inside. It was so sad to see it in that state.
More restorations like this please
Love the professional sniffer.
I love this video ❤ why couldn’t you submerge metal parts in water to wash them ? Rust ?
My best find was a 2nd gen ps4 for $20 in the cashies clearance. thought it was completely munted. The only fault I found was someone put a plastic coin in the disk drive.
Haha nice!
Great find! How much did you flip it for?
Not a restoration. This was a miracle revival
Amazing work this was super interesting to watch!!! Lol gotta love a classic 😌
cigarettes and aftershave... yuk. awesome video lol
That ASMR restoration sounds though
Master surgeon at work here
Some kids AND adults are animals when it comes to their consoles makes you think what else they treat like that: other electronics, pets, family, co-workers, etc.
The hardest part was to discover the drive disk problem
Try paint thinner for the super glue next time. Shouldn’t be a problem with the motherboard.
🙂👍
Damn, the previous owner really did go full ogre on the poor PS4. Also, that superglue thing had me in awe..
Good job! Man, I love restoration videos
This video is soooooo satisfying.
Congrats bro!
Great restoration, was actually looking forward to seeing how much gunk was in it 😂
Haha, thanks
That’s fucking amazing, I love that I also learn from these subconsciously
Thanks dude 😃
Amazing job dude! Really beautiful to watch. How did you learn to do this? I would love to learn how to do it (as a hobby)
Thankyou! Just self/youtube taught. I used to have a phone repair business, so that helps.
@@RestoreTechnique thanks for your reply. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see more! Subscribed
Cool video! Might I suggest putting the plastics in water as opposed to blowing off the dust into the air? I know you can't do that with the electronics, but less is better.
That Ps4 will be grateful for the rest of it's life 🥰
Do you think using an ultrasonic cleaner on the PCB would be overkill?
Nope, if I had one i would've. The good ones for motherboards are $500+ though.
Please tell me what you used to remove the sticker glue. I have a metal case that had a store barcode sticker on it and it was covering the art of the case. Now the glue is still on there and I want to remove it without damaging the paint on the metal.
99% Isopropyl Alcohol. It's great for adhesive removal.
@@RestoreTechnique Thank you!
What kind of Air compressor are you using and do you suggest any for this purpose?
It's a "Black Ridge" brand, which is a budget brand from Super Cheap Auto in Australia. It's my housemate's. It actually had a pressure problem at the time of filming this video. I am far from an expert on air compressors.
"don't spray water on electronics" *sprays water on electronics*
It was isopropyl alcohol 😄
Damn Bro this is so Relaxing to watch, i like this Content. Thumbs up
I've had my PS4 Pro for 3 years, i have sold it just like it came in the box , not a scratch or dust particle in or on it ! how can people be so dirty? they dont deserve such consoles !!!
I have a coal fire in my house and it makes a lot of dust sometimes it’s impossible to not get dust in them. I’ve had 2 open mine up a few times as it sucks in so much dust but I’ve owned it years and it still runs great with no overheating
The Pharoah sticker is the only one I would reapply after cleaning case.
