A quick(ish) patina update on my beautiful Tudor Black Bay Bronze in Slate Grey after 18 months. I personally absolutely love the patina but don't much like the hideous green stuff. But let me know what you think of this beauty and whether a bronze watch is something you would consider adding to your collection?
This made me sniff my watch like someone with a weird fetish 😂 but happy to confirm there is no smell/odor from the bronze or even the fabric strap apart from the natural smell of fabric. Hope this helps and thank you for watching 🙏🏻
This is a beautiful 'naturally' created patina. I'm glad you did not force aging by the dreadful methods other RUclipsrs are employing. You have let the metal 'breathe'. Excellent.
Congratulations, your watch keeps getting more beautiful. The ceramic is still my top tudor pick, but this is getting closer the more I see the patina develope. Great videos, very much appreciated. Hope you will buy a 925, want to see that patina as well 😊 you guessed it, the third in my top 3. DO NOT POLISH indeed. That is murder for the character of the watch. I totally agree with you. The differences in level if oatina strengthen that even more.
FYI: The "green stuff" is actually verdigris, sometimes called the patina. It's in fact a protective oxidisation to prevent further corrosion. Bronze is made up of 88% copper and 12% tin so with such a big copper percentage you can expect this high, and quick, level of oxidisation. Copper oxide is mostly green (there are a few different types) and it is a form of "rust". I have to agree with the presenter, It is a stunning look that is naturally developed over time and unique to that watch. great video and I can't wait for my first Bronze Tudor to land on my wrist.
Thank you for documenting this. This dial and case size are my favourite in the Tudor range but unfortunately, the patina is not for me. Lovely watch though.
Thanks for posting this update. Looks great! Glad you're happy with it too. The color looks a bit muted this time. Is the patina dulling the sheen, or is that just the lighting? Does the piece still take a polish?
Glad you enjoyed it too. And I am loving the deep patina but not too keen on the green so much. So some deep cleaning is imminent. I noticed the dullness while editing too so you have a very keen eye. The sheen is starting to go away in places as its covered by deep brown patina but I feel the camera/lighting also exaggerates the dullness as its not that muted in reality. Not exactly sure what you mean by ‘does the piece still take a polish?’
Every time I decide I am definitely getting the brown BB Bronze, you upload one of these videos, and my agony begins all over again. 😂 Beautiful watch - great video.
haha...sorry! All I can say is - try both on your wrist and see which one suits your skin tone/preferences more and don't forget to lookup how both these watches look once the patina has developed. And I will be keen to hear which one you pull the trigger on when you do.
Hello Sir I love mine’s , but although it has patina I do clean mine with a moist cotton bud and a soft cloth to my preference. The only thing is I could not let the green algae to develop on mine at any stage. Great video Sir enjoy your watch in good health 👍 Tam.
I too love the patina and would love to get rid of the green. Was a bit skeptical about strong chemicals but a little weak washing up liquid doesn’t sound too scary so I will give it a go this weekend. Thank you ever so much for the continuous support sir. Enjoy yours in good health too 🙏🏻
Great patina update. Thanks for continuing your review. I hope mine's develops it's own patina similarly. I have one question for you or anyone who knows. Please excuse my ignorance but I noticed you mentioned and covered up your serial number. What are you protecting against? What could anyone do with 'YOUR' watch's serial number?
Hello. Short of taking to Tudor for a bit of a clean, are there any safe and gentle cleaning methods one can do at home to keep some shine to the bronze?
The green stuff comes off easily with a moist cotton bud and I have recently started leaving the watch in luke warm water for a few mins to keep it clean. Nice and simple :)
Thanks for sharing your experience Great video! I have one maybe a bit offensive question, hope u don’t mind. Which is do you sweat a lot? Im looking for getting one of those gorgeous bronze watch of tudor. But im afraid that it might go way too rusty because i sweat a lot. I hope the patina can grow smoothly so that i can take my time of enjoying it. Thanks for this great video again!
Glad you enjoyed the video and not an offensive question at all. I don’t sweat much on my wrists so I am not sure how that impacts the patina but if the patina gets too much for you, you can always just clean the watch and control the patina that way. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching and stay safe my friend 🙏🏻
ok i love many forms of patina in everything, watch dials, shoes, cameras etc. But why would one want a bronze patina? they'd be so green and gross, uneven like an unkept bridge. can someone explain?
Well, unlike an unkept bridge - one can clean the watch just enough to remove the green, gross stuff but still leave the brown patina on? Then what you have is a watch that looks slightly different and characterful every day 😄
Thank you 🙏🏻 and I just leave this one on the bedside table or the coffee table, no bag, no box, no case. But now that I have got a fair few watches - I am looking into getting a decent watch case/roll of some sort. I have worn this watch every single day for the first 2 years of owning it but more recently its become the weekend watch as I am trying to give the BB58 plenty of wrist time.
Looks good. Mine is a little over 12 months and it has more a uniformed patina. Not quite as dark as your watch yet. Only part that has some green on it is the buckle. Have you gone in the water with yours a lot?
Thank you & sounds exactly like the journey my watch had for the first 12months - only buckles had the green and not a very deep patina. I think the depth of the patina increased quite significantly in the last 6 months, so keep an eye out for the green stuff on yours too. I have taken the watch for a dip at the beach only once since owning it - so not a lot I would say. Do let me know how you get on now that 12 months have gone by 🙏🏻
I am considering to buy a BB bronze for myself as well. Is it possible to restore it to its previous shiny look if you dont like how the patina develops or any other reason ?
@ I do! 😂 I have even had to buy new straps for it. Been all over the world with it. Snorkeling and hiking mountains. Both Iraq and Afghanistan during deployments. It patina’d real fast and then just stopped.
The reason why the middle of the side of the case doesn’t patina as much as the rest is probably because that’s the part that touches the back of your hand.
Yes. I haven't tried so no guarantees but this gent here seems to have done it and more: ruclips.net/video/f9ExvZ0-Pwc/видео.html I personally, would just skip the 'metal polish' bit though
Thanks! It wasn’t a criticism though, your videos are great. It’s just that I have the same sized wrists as you and I was worried it might look a little to big on me. Guess I need to try one on (which isn’t so easy right now 😅)
@@CyprienSaint No problem my friend 🙌🏻 I would be delighted even if you have some criticism for the videos on this channel. Constructive criticism is how this channel has got to where it is 🙏🏻 And I agree - the bronzo is a chunkier watch compared to other BB models. So I would highly recommend you try it on. And if you are in London, Harrods had both the leather & fabric in display, whenever they open again. I’d be keen to hear if/when you do pull the trigger on this 🥳
@@AnIndianAbroad Thanks for your input😁🙏I'm struggling between BB58 blue & BB bronze, but I prefer bronze little bit more because I never own this kind of metal before...
@@garyyan613 you can’t go wrong either way and to be honest, a BB58 will be in my collection very soon since I already have the bronze 😬 let me know which one you buy when you do 🙏🏻
Looks like it’s been buried in the garden for a year. The ‘green’ stuff collecting in the recesses is particularly off putting. I guess they wouldn’t sell many of these with patina like that. All very subjective but aging bronze doesn’t look good to me. Somebody should count how many times you say Patina in this video. :)
Well, its a 'patina' update - there, I said it one more time :) Also I will be honest - not a fan of the 'green' stuff either. And I can appreciate bronze is not for everyone but I absolutely love the brown patina. So glad I got this as my first proper watch.

Thank you for the detailed explanation and glad you enjoyed the video. All the best for your Bronze, hope it lands on your wrist soon 🙌🏻
This is super minor but word is that Tudor uses aluminum, not tin. It’s supposed to slow the aging/oxidation and minimize chance of “bronze disease.”
Excellent, detailed views. What I like most about this model is the 3-6-9 dial layout.
Glad you enjoyed the views. Love the 3-6-9 markers too, makes it stand out from other black bays.
Do you rinse with fresh water after you dive with it ?
I think it's by far the best of the bronze divers.
For the price, yes.
Agreed
Looks great in my opinion. So much character to this watch with the changing color. Hold onto that. Will be curious to see further updates.
Still my favourite watch in the collection. And its not going anywhere anytime soon. Update video to follow :)
Thanks for sharing. Aging of the bronze coming around nicely. Might I ask where you procured your nato strap from? Matches the bronze perfectly.
