Tricia Helfer: Farmhand, Supermodel, Killer Robot and Hermit

- I'm back with another of our most requested guests! Tricia Helfer is one of my favorite humans and I feel so so very lucky to not only know her, but to have worked with her. You obviously know her from her work on Battlestar Galactica but she spent years before that as a model. We talk about all that, how she used to work in the nude on a farm growing up, her history with Sylvester Stallone, losing her hair on Battlestar, and how she got discovered as a kid. Tricia is one of the most practical and put together people I know and it was such a pleasure, as always, to spend some time with her. Enjoy!

Battlestar never ends when you own the DVDs and binge watch start to finish every coupe of years.
I've done that
This is fundamental.
So this is how it went with me. Where I lived there was no way to watch it live so I downloaded it from torrents. Amazon became a thing so finally I was able to buy the DVD boxed version, found a collectors edition with a whole lot of extras and bought that. Then Blu-ray appeared so obviosuly I went ahead and bought the collectors version agian, now this is a real treat. Not only it has literally everything related to the 2003 version ( all the extras, tons of BTS stuff, all the movies and webisodes as well ) but for every single episode there is a narrated dub by RDM and one of the writers or someone on the crew ( changes episode by episode ). I am a 100% sure when the next best thing comes out rendering the Blu-Ray format obsolete I will upgrade my BSG collection first thing. In my opinion its the best scifi show ever made ( The Expanse came close but not close enough ) and I rewatch it every June. :) And still looking forward to it every year lol
Hell yeah brother
Absolutely!!
Six and Starbuck... back together again!
So say we all!
😊😊😊
They're like best friends in real life
@@Alex-lp6bg I mean I knew that. I know they have been besties at least as far back as BSG... but I have not seen them together in the same thing on camera in a very long time.
All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.
Tricia was mind-blowing and heart-breaking as Six. No one else could have done it like her. She does not get nearly the respect she deserves for it.
Yeah in the beginning when she snapped the baby's neck. The range of emotions displayed in that sequence alone was fantastic.
Yes, she does?
I agree sometimes because of limits. Script, director perception etc....yet Tricia was able to bring many layers instantly to the character
( same with her Lucifer character Charlotte/Shirley)
I respect her so much I would treat her to dinner.
Tricia is 50??!?!?!?!?!? My god she looks amazing.
She doesn't..........
@@Davos-st8ok zero taste
@@twisted_fo0l indeed, i have no taste for fossils
Maybe Cylons don't age.
She’s ageless
Tricia: i just don't cry. I wish I did
Katee: let me tell you how much I cherish our friendship
Tricia: cries
Maybe Katee will be the new Barbara Walters of interview and just find ways to make her subject cry.
Regarding Head Six's early season characterization, I'd credit Tricia for making this one dimensional character feel alive and compelling. Whether she was being sultry or intimidating, or dogmatic, there was an intensity in her acting that really sold the character. It made the whole dynamic with Baltar believable and interesting. Dare I say iconic!
Agree you wanted more, to dig into the intricacies of the character
Two bestest reasons to watch BSG! 🙂
Add Lucy Lawless for the trifecta!
Oh if we’re doing bs. I want her to do Edward James Elmos
Tricia Helfer:One of the best voice voice actress.
❤❤❤ EDI
And Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, of course
I met Tricia the day after she was discovered. I was at Mode Models with my model friend at the time when she came in to take a few pics for Kelly. She was super nice. I'll never forget it.
Love you both together but was surprised her roles in Lucifer never came up - she was so good as the Goddess of all creation and then as Charlotte the tough lawyer. The Netflix ratings for Lucifer were outstanding and her appearances at those cons are highly attended.
Or Van Helsing or Killer Women.
I've had half a dozen spine surgeries, including cervical and lumbar fusions, each of which required a solid year recovery time. I can't begin to fathom what it took for Tricia to recover from four disc replacements at the same time. Her spirit is truly indominable.
Katee is excellent at this. She knows the art of how to ask questions and listen and keep the flow going. Phenomenal interview.
i'm a huge nerd. 20 years on nothing compares. I was so invested in the show that my husband still has resentment towards me because of it. Then we had our son and he got over it. My son is 17. Still married. Guess what. The best show I ever saw.
I was notified that BSG is now on Prime this morning.
Then this interview hits!
Coincidence? No fraking way!
Nice. Been meaning to do a rewatch.
Rewatching it now....halfway through season 2
Katee's genuine smile always puts a smile on my face, even during difficult times.
Tricia is just blessed. And fated with opportunity. There was no way any normal human would deny herself that glamorous and adventurous life. Glad it didn’t corrupt her and we got to see her great acting talent.
Not everybody knows this, but she is also the Voice actor for Kerrigan in Starcraft 2 ❤
I just love that part.
and EDI in Mass Effect
I could listen to a 24-hour stream of Katee and Tricia just talking to each other. You really ought to have a full podcast together if not just some kind of movie or show together.
I'd suggest "Acting Outlaws" for more Katee/Tricia goodness...
Tricia has always had an addictive and beautiful smile.
*My favourite couple since the Battlestar Galactica*
I'm glad to hear Tricia shout out Bridget Moynihan - she seems like a nice person and it's pleasant to see people supporting each other.
Yes, please have another episode with Tricia. I remember watching the premiere of BSG in Jan 2005 because I was pregnant with my first child and throwing up in our hotel room, but I didn't let that stop me from watching the show. We've been huge fans since then. I even have Starbuck's tattoo on my back, which I got for my 30th birthday. I just love your friendship, even among the other cast members, and the fact that you all are still very close. So, besides having Tricia on again, it would be great to have more BSG actors on as well. Thanks for the interview Katee!
Bsg is such an underrated show, acting from everybody is top notch.
I've been talking with my partner to watch BSG with me. It's one of my all time favorites. It's like a sign that it's on prime now and I see this now. I think its finally time for the 3rd watch through 😅.
This really rounds out my impression of Tricia! As Six, her performance was always so perfectly narrow, like it was supposed to be. Whereas Katee as Kara Thrace was always presented as a broad spectrum human, also as it was supposed to be. This interview humanizes Tricia so fantastically!
Tricia is a Goddess in Lucifer, and a down to earth person! Great interview!
And Dracula in Van Helsing.
The Dynamic Duo is back!
They both look the most beautiful I have ever seen them. It should be illegal to be that naturally beautiful.
The unscripted approach to the conversation gave me a deeper feeling that I'm in the room just hang'n out, listening to a real conversation. Priceless. This is one of the best interviews I've ever witnessed.
You two are gems. BSG was IMO, the best Sci-Fi show on TV, ever.
IMO the best show on TV, ever. Sci Fi or not.
Fun fact - I'm watching BSG right now with my girlfriend. I'm in the early 40s and never watched it when it was originally airing. You both look almost as young as in the show if not even better. Very cool to see you being friends IRL.
The world needs a Modern Motorcycle Road trip with both of you !!!!!!!!!
Maybe they can team up with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman and for a Short Ride around Atlanta, Portland or LA?
I could listen to these two chat all day. Just so entertaining.
Everything Tricia did on BSG was knocked out of the park -- every version of six she played felt unique and fully developed. I kinda ugly cried when Natalie died.
Good to see and hear genuine people with healthy relationships having a blast together and being there for each other. Along with good acting and not losing their personalities along the way. 🎉🎉
I'm glad Tricia mentions her cats passing away as a legitimate source of stress and grief, RIP Caesar. I think a lot of people dismiss the amount of grief that a person can feel from the loss of a pet, and speaking from experience, it can be considerable. I have the opposite situation from Tricia, I can't _not_ cry. The littlest things can make me tear up. It's embarrassing, it's definitely not a useful ability in my line of work.
I would love it if someone would actually make a live-action _Mass Effect_ series or movie franchise. I'd love for Tricia to reprise her role as EDI.
yup, been 24 years since we lost our dog and for me it's like the Bo Jangles song: After twenty years he still grieves
Katee does such an outstanding job as an interviewer.
A great interview, so natural and fun. This is missing from today's life. Just great.
"we werent traveling with handcuffs internationally" - An Absolute Legend.
I wish everyone could have a friendship like you & Tricia have. Thanks for letting us listen in. 🌹
Thank you, so beautiful to hear two of my favorite actresses talk and share their successes their failures and they’re crying. Thank you.❤
Katee and Tricia... you're awesome!
I love watching/listening whenever you two are occupying the same space - always a pleasure. Enjoying the podcast - welcome back!
Met Tricia when she was 16/17 on a flight from Paris to Toronto. It was a few days before Christmas - plane was full of models going home last second, and I had a cast on my leg from a sporting accident at my school in Paris. She had just won Look of the year/Model of the World for either Elite or Ford - I forget which agency. We had a long nice chat - about her telling me she had brought for her family little jams, and she loved muffins (also how Stallone sent her messages but she was only 17!). She was reading the book the City of Joy at the time - I remember that well - since it was my opening conversation with her. Even at that age she seemed quite nice. I remember she gave me her number after the plane landed, but I lost it. My little anecdote.
I recently finished (late to the party Battlestar Galacticast, even though I was a BSG die hard from 1st mini-series), and was pleasantly surprised at how smart Tricia is, and how well spoken. Katee has always been a pistol. Love you both and BSG forever - SSWA
I really need a part two of this. I feel like there's a lot more to say and discover about Tricia Helper. I didn't know her trajectory at all and it was really interesting and surprising. The end felt abrupt. Anyway really good podcast episode, really interesting.
can't wait for part 2!! please have her back soon
I love how genuine you always are. That was an amazing episode.
Very interesting interview I have to say. Being a few years younger than Tricia, it blows me away at how beautiful she has remained and dare I say gotten even more so as the years have passed. What an amazing story she's had so far. It's so strange, whenever I see her in a role it sends the heart racing a bit - and that's been without fail since BSG.😉
It is sad that people/pets have left her orbit ... at our ages its inevitable its fair to say... I don't have any kids either....not the goat kind or any other kind....there is a hypothesis that some of us are doin our last rotation on this here 3rd rock and less attachments i.e. kids etc. means less karma tying one to doing another Earth life, because you are ready for the next level somewhere else. Could be absolute BS, could be fact, who knows - one thing is for certain, Tricia will be mesmerising no matter what form she takes. So looking forward to Part 2 if there is one.😊
Thank you, Katee and Tricia.
Having spent a year in Alberta her stories make a ton of sense. Some great questions and lead ins too
Everyone made a great series that still holds up fantastically 20 years later. I know sometimes actors in scifi regret taking these roles and feel like they pigeonholed themselves in these roles, but don't... Be proud of your work whose fans now span generations.
I tend to cry everytime you two are together. Your friendship is so beautiful, funny, & relaxing. Most if my close friends have moved so far away, we don't really meet up that often anymore. Most are in the Veterinary industry & are exhausted when home. We text alot, but not the same as hanging out & causing crazy shenanigans.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING. One of my FAVORITES
I only do podcasts with videos because for some reason I don’t have the attention for audio only so I love there’s video for this. Love you 2
I'm on probably my 6th run through the entire BSG series. Best show of all time! Just digging through imdb and looking for nuggets about the show and its cast and I just discovered this. Stoked! Love me some Katee Sakhoff!!!!
I just started re-watching Battlestar this past week. The show aired the year my dad died (he was a part of the Space Shuttle program and introduced me to the original Battlestar as a kid). I remember thinking how much he would have loved the show. Personally my favorite Katee appearance was in Longmire. You are, and have always been, one of the top celebs I’d love to sit and have a cold beer with and just listen to your stories. I’ve played hockey with so many actors over the years and have learned to get a read on who would be a blast to patio and people-watch with. Always with the biggest smile…thanks for the years of great entertainment!
Cheers!

Really wonderful! Can’t imagine how great it must be to chat with your friends on camera and have that to enjoy for years.
Super fun seeing such a stoic actor and such an emotional actor chatting.
Thank you for sharing your time together. Well done katee!
Fantastic episode!!! LOVE the two of you together!
This was the most amazing video of two actors talking ever. thank you. Please please make a part two (and more) with Tricia!
Great interview, it's awesome to see that you are genuinely friends. BSG is one of those shows I end up re-watching every few years because it really does remain so relevant, and I always notice something new with each re-watch.
Trica you’ve taken a courageous leap, and even though it’s been challenging, there's immense growth in embracing such a transformation. Keep trusting your instincts and give yourself grace as you adapt to this new chapter. Your resilience and ability to reflect deeply will guide you towards finding peace and purpose.
So glad this finally came out!!!
Love you two real people. 100% warm and wonderful.
I love the honesty between both of you.
The one I've been waiting for. Can't wait.
Tricia Helfer is more beautiful now... compared to the days of Battle Star... Gorgeous... =)
This was such a good interview, and I love how sisterly they are with each other. Tricia is a gem and so interesting, and I can't wait to see where her career continues to take her. I hope she's able to get those roles that she mentioned: goofy comedy, serial killer, damaged. She's so awesome! Looking forward to part 2 and part 3. Thanks, Katee and Tricia! ❤
Thanks for the convo! Great to see you’re both doing well! Keep up the fun! Good luck with everything!
Thanks for having her on. You both have been very interesting to watch. Bravo.
Love how we can see how good friends you are.
Tricia's performance was one of the 3 times watching BSG that I had to pause and walk away sobbing. You both talked about it - the scene that Baltar "rescued" her from captivity, and she was being starved in the jail cell. The way she played that out... ugh... I'm getting emotional recalling it. I stepped away, and was unsure if I could keep watching, when she slowly reached for a bit of food. Just spoke volumes. Love you both! She was so open on talking about anything! I think this was my favorite episode, Katee! definitely get her back! Thank you!
I was hypnotized by this. I loved it. Thank you.
Such a great interview, Katie! Thanks so much to the both of you and Tricia I have followed your careers as a fan since Gallactica, and it is totally engaging to see you as real people opening up about your history. Thanks again and I hope you can keep up video interviews as they have all been great.
Love, love, love you two. Fine, I'll rewatch BSG. #SoSayWeAll
This is a really touching conversation between two classy ladies who share a great and fun friendship!! I enjoyed listening and look forward to lots more of your podcasts Katee!
Terrific episode! Currently on another rewatch of Battlestar Galactica. You both were fabulous in it.
Thank you for the great video! You both have a nice dynamic. Happy for both of you and that you found each other :)
I'm at the end of Season 2 right now (Captain's Hand). Just started my most recent run-through of the series again. I've had the DVDs for years, and it just was re-released on Amazon Prime Video. This is one of my most favorite shows. It's one I'll take downloads or DVD rips of on my phone when backpacking just to watch while I'm laying in my hammock or crashing in my tent at the end of the day. Unbelievable cast. Incredible writing. Just a great show. Big fan.
I am a Canuck living not far from her home town.. she is amazing .. Thank you for this ..
I love that you have leaned in to "That's what's up". I chuckle every time.
I love you two. Always candid, funny, & best friends
So glad to know that Tricia is a Farmer’s Daughter, salt of the earth. Really enjoyed seeing the relationship between these 2.
This was amazing, you two have such great energy together and a lot of love as well, what a life Tricia has had so far and lot's more to come I'm sure, hope she's back on soon 😄
Just watched two women talking for a hour and liked it. What the heck? How I ask HOW is Tricia not a Lounge Jazz singer with that sexy freaking voice ⁉️ Great Job Katee! Love all I've seen! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
You guys brought me so much joy
Wonderful interview. You are both the type of people my wife and I love. Wish we were friends. My wife is on a little trip and I am home with the 6 cats this weekend. We would love to hear more about the rescue work that Tricia does. My wife does TNR and I help when she needs it. Rescue work is so compassionate and it can be heartbreaking too. It was great to hear about the things she went through in her career. We have been watching your podcasts for years and it is a joy watching two people just have fun. You make us feel like we are there with you. Our best to the both of you and the great experiences you will continue to have in your new homes! - Nick and Sharon
Hiya Tricia love that your back with Katee!!!! Cheers to you both! SO SAY WE ALL!!!
Loved working as a PA on BSG, you two were so awesome and of course the entire cast and crew! Come back to Vancouver!!!
I've been thinking about revisiting Battlestar Galactica again. Both of you were absolutely amazing and I loved both characters so much. Good to see you together again :)
So glad i found this video: Just started to re-watch the whole Battlestar Galactica show with you Katee and Tricia.
And I had totally forgot how an incredibly good show it is. I was like: Yea i am just gonna watch 2 episodes, I have seen this show before. Looking at my watch 5 episodes later and suddenly its morning agai. Both you Katee and Tricia did an incredible job in that show and i would pay huge sums of money to get a show like Battlestar Galactica back on TV together with its Crew.
This is my favorite friendship. I literally couldn't wait for Tricia Helfer to show up. This is going down as one of my fave episodes.
Loved the show, and loved watching you both in Galactica. I enjoy all the Battlestar Galactica shows and the spinoffs. I look forward to part 2 with Tricia.
This is why I love the video aspect of your podcast, the expression on your faces is priceless. I get why you can't do that anymore. Great interview.
Great episode. Thanks for sharing it. Crazy it's been so many years since BSC. I have never before or since been so engrossed in a show, especially the first two seasons. For me, as soon as the episode ended each Friday, it was "start the clock."
I never watched Battlestar Galactica 2004 until recently when I started binging it on Amazon Prime. I was already in love with Katee from other shows, but now I'm totally smitten with Tricia. She was amazing as Six. Lovely ladies.
What a lovely episode. Definitely looking forward to pt2 thru whatever; it was really nice listening to the great dialog between you two.
A terrific interview! Thanks to both ladies for sharing a bit of their lives.
I love these two together. I feel Katee is a wonderful interviewer, and she always shares so much with her viewers and her interviewee's.
I so can identify with Tricia. I've had so many of the same experiences. Katee, you have grown so much in this endeavor of podcasting. Thank you both for this insight. It was a beautiful episode.
This was very interesting to watch. You both seem like genuinely good down to earth people. It's nice to see such talented artists not let it go to their heads.
