I always liked how the film immediately puts you in the POV of it's antagonist, asking you to see things from his perspective.
Also the touch of showing the mayor play with his son. It's a small thing, but it shows how despite his corruption, he loves and is loved by his family - he's fallible but not evil. It just gives him a bit more as a character.

The “fear is a tool” and “I am the shadows” monologue is one of the best parts of this movie to me. We’ve always got a sense that people were scared of Batman in a lot of movies, or at least wary of him… But in this, just the idea of Batman POSSIBLY walking out of that dark alleyway or that shady spot has men scared… To the point where fear has done half of the job for him.
To see these people more scared of the bat signal more than a police helicopter above them screams how fear has infected the scum of the city… At least, the lower level of scum. Ugh, it’s just so cool. I really hope we get a second movie with this level of quality.

Yeah, it WAS good BUT then they had to go and ruin it by the clown gangs reaction 9:52
The Monologue says "We have a signal now... for when am needed, but when that light hits the sky...its not just a call, ITS A WARNING!...TO THEM!" 7:07
So its been made clear that he's WELL KNOWN throughout Gotham, and that he is KNOWN N FEARED throughout Gotham, right? Well I guess the clowns NEVER got the Memo, cause IF he is known n feared WHY OH WHY ARE THEY LAUGHING AT HIM WHEN HE COMES OUT OF THE SHADOWS?
(Then again Id laugh too seeing a guy dress up like a bat😏lol, ESP one that looks SO BAD n GOOFY LOOKING!🤪 I MEAN WHAT IS WITH THAT HELMET AND THOSE HORNS👿?? Not only does it make his head look FAT, but the horns are too pointy and DOESNT go with the suit. Also whats with the BIG Clunky boots? 9:24 Batman's SUPPOSED to be stealthy like a ninja NOT BIG, STUMPY N HEAVY.🤦‍♂)
Furthermore WTH is he asking "Who the hell are YOU supposed to be?". IF HE'S SO WELL KNOWN/INFAMOUS/LEGENDARY...WHY dont they know who he is?🤔🤨😕
SURELY they can put 2 n 2 2gether?😐 I mean there's a Bat Signal in the sjy that they can CLEARLY SEE, and then a guy with a BAT suit shows up...he's OBVIOUSLY they guy that the news is talking about aka The BATman....so WHY is he asking what SHOULD be obvious?
More to the point...IF SO SCARED THEY ARE AND FULL OF FEAR... WHY then are they NOT running away in fear?🤔🤨😕 It just DOESNT MAKE SENSE!🤷‍♂😑🙄
So they've taken one of the BEST moments from the trailer and done F@%#£D IT UP!🤦‍♂
CLEARLY its an editing mistake on the editors part😒
Itd be better if THIS scene came BEFORE the monologue as an intro to The Batman and THEN have the rest

The slow "tick-tock" of heavy steps, as if Death himself is walking up the stairs, the inexorable march towards impending doom, the countdown to beatdown. There's something intensely visceral about the beatdown he gives that first guy. It's not a fight, it's Batman denying him the right to be conscious for a while. The sound of the impacts, the choreography and how he brings him down and without hesitating gives him 2 lovely little pets on the cheek on the ground is borderline haunting. In my honest and personal opinion, that single interaction between this Batman and Random Goon #1 is more impactfull and well executed than any other fight scene in any other Batman movie.

I love the small touches of horror this film has, and the fact that they're done so well. This scene doesn't have a typical horror sting or a jumpscare of any sort (unlike the Batman jumping from the smoke gas scene), the scene doesn't try and trick you into feeling any emotion, if this type of thing doesn't scare you then it won't, but for a lot of people this is something terrifying to think about, being totally unaware that someone is that close to you and watching, by itself that's already more than scary. The scenes with criminals looking into the shadows, terrified of what _could_ be lurking there, are really well done too.

@@CalvinW.Allison Except they had heard of him but probably thought it was a myth. For example, recall the part where one of the thugs notices the signal, but his friend convinces him to commit a crime anyway. As if they didn't take the Batman seriously.

Pattinson did a brilliant job in this film. He's definitely my favourite Batman/ Wayne.👍🏻💯 The riddler was also very scary. This was a frightening scene.

I'm shocked that more people are not talking about 04:50 scene where the bat signal literally looks like Batman's face right from the animated series. This movie is just genius

*3:47** The Riddler's psychotic hatred of corrupt politicians is truly tragic. He never had a chance, always being looked down upon and abused. Paul Dano was the best in this film.*

Part of the film is that fear and vengeance isn’t enough. So it tracks.

Really made Batman feel supernatural in this scene. Definitely how he should feel since he uses fear against his enemies, he can’t just be another costumed hero with his underwear over his pants and grey spandex

The movie is slow because it uses slow movements to stimulate a feeling of intensity and malodramaticness. It suits Batman's theatricality and Gotham's dark and mysterious look. When the batmobile is starting up, the sound of the car engine and the close up shots of the faces makes the audience anticipate something big to happen. Penguin is like "he is not actually going to run over me is he", eventually it sinks in that the guy is a psychopath. For the audience, the scene is trying to hype you up.
When the guy asks Batman "who are you supposed to be", he means to ask him what he is supposed to be dressed as because it is Halloween.
