R.C. Sproul: The Necessity of the Atonement

  • This session deals with the reason why atonement is necessary. It explains that it is due to the nature of God (His justice, holiness, and righteousness) and the nature of sin (the violation of God’s justice and law). Sin puts man at enmity with God, and atonement is what allows us to have peace with God.

    It's like John MacArthur gives you the broad and complete foundation of Christianity, and R.C. Sproul gives you a another, even deeper understanding of some of the basics of our faith. I used to feel that he went into the tall weeds too much, but interestingly how I no longer feel that way.

    6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
    7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
    8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
    John 10:18 (KJV) Jesus lay down His life. God father did not put his warped on Jesus. My humble God and Lord Jesus.

  • @rooneysue
    @rooneysue 5 лет назад +1

    I'd like to know a couple of things.
    1. Were we the reason God made everything? Meaning we are the superior living thing in this world.
    2. Hadn't God already tried to atone for sins by sending Noah a message.
    3. Was Jesus a replacement for yearly animal sacrifice?
    4. Wasn't Jesus preaching a coming of those end days?
    5. This atonement doesn't seemed to have really worked?

    • @josephkuzara2609
      @josephkuzara2609 5 лет назад +4

      1. Gods Goodwill and Pleasure to Glorify Himself is why everything was made. Everything was made by Him, through Him and for Him. We are not the focus as something superior as we are made to be a humbled servant of each other, broken and contrite in spirit and heart through the source and example of the Son incarnate whom we are to Glorify and Honor as we Honor the Father.
      2.no, atonement in which God the Father desires, requires and is acceptable is only through His eternal Son incarnate. Romans 3:25 explains the reasoning of Passing Over past sins even in the days of Noah. Noah was chosen and commissioned by God to preach repentance toward faith in YHVH to avoid the coming Wrath of the flood.
      3. Jesus was the fulfillment of what the animal sacrifices pointed towards, the blood of animals could never take away sin and why God did not ultimately desire nor require a continuation of such sacrifices as His Son was the volunteered atoning sacrifice as the elects ransom that would take away sin and change Fathers disposition toward sinners. Jesus is the source and example as why inwardly being broken and contrite in heart and spirit for our sins was such an sacrifice not despised by Father through Him correctively chastisening and scourging His Son as our substitute.
      4.we are still in the end days, but God is not slow as we count it but is being patient toward His elect in order so all those whom He chose unconditionally to be His will not perish.
      5.Jesus death only works for whom He died for. His death will result in many and not all of humanity to be justified through conscious repentance and faith toward Him worked through us by God, by grant as there atonement.
      There is a condition to be saved and God sets the condition and is the one whom works out that condition within those whom He created and set apart in the womb in order to be heavenly drawn and called through the Gospel of Jesus. So our salvation is the work of God at our appointed times and not of our own will or effort as would be impossible being enslaved to only continually disobey God's commands, which means the command to repent and believe.

Then we are given to given to the Father as a gift from the Son to the Father. We will be a eternal testimony of God's goodness and mercy. Living out eternity praising and worshipping God forever. 🙏

    The atonement is not like we were told! God is our heavenly Father, not our heavenly Bureaucrat! There is a long list of the biblical and logical problems with Penal Substitutional Atonement and many mistranslated texts that are used to support it. Look for the book, “Atonement and Reconciliation” for this in-depth examination.

    Jesus being God's justification by how He treated His ligit Son while righteous yet in the likeness of sinful flesh, to act towards those whom by faith are baptized in Christ being imputed His righteousness are treated if they stumble into sin,instead of remaining under wrathful suffering. we suffer as Christ by partaking in His Body(1 corinthians 12:13kjv) but only many until His return will partake in His Cup and Baptism of death( Matthew 20:22-23kjv)being Chastized and Scourged even unto death(matthew 16:24) in order to learn what obedience is picking up our own poles to partake in God's Holiness.
    Jesus being made sin in the LIKENESS of sinful flesh yet not the embodiment of wickedness, being made a curse for us by condemning sin in the flesh(not Jesus) while dieing on a tree/pole yet not accursed by Father(1 Cor 12:3kjv) to free us from the curse of the Law in order to be corrected with discipline as Christ our source so we are not condemned with the world(1 Cor 11:32) Christ suffered correction voluntarily as our substitute(the just for the unjust) instead of the elect suffering everlasting wrath so while in CHRIST we partake in His correction if we sin.
    Although Gods Son being born in the fullness of Father, being perfect in nature and spirit without blemish, volunteered to suffer for our sins through corrective chastening and scourging unto death to learn obedience(Isa 53:5 Musar #4148 ,Hebrews 5:8-9 Phillip 2:7-8 Kjv) being made spiritually mature and the pioneer of our salvation for the elects sake as God's Equivalent Disciplinary Substitution(TRUE PSA) to be our sin and guilt atonement as our ransom in order to Propitiate and Justify Father to correct the Elect through such suffering instead of leaving us under His wrath.
    Putting on Christ by being baptized in Him while partaking in His Body and Cup takes on a more deeper revelation understood within scripture once one connects the dots of His suffering not only as a remembrance of how and why He died for our sake but what it means for us in lifestyle while following Him. Such connection is marred when one disassociates through Wrathful Penal substitution atonement, what Christ went through from what and why we also partake in correction while in Him.
    Sense one is taught through Wrathful PSA that what Jesus goes through as our substitute(the just for the unjust) is not what we will go through as our source and example set.
    they miss the whole purpose of His suffering correction(Isa 53:5kjv Musar #4148) By Father for our sins(not just for His own Righteousness by evil men) and why we are corrected by Father while in Him partaking in His suffering(not just suffering for Righteousness by evil mankind) but also suffering correction to have an broken heart and contrite spirit so we may know obedience by grant(philip 1:29; Acts 14:22) instead of remaining under wrath even if we do sin.
    Too often teachers of Wrathful PSA had made synonymous Gods punishment with His discipline within the English translations when in reality God makes a distinction between the two in scripture because of what His Son was predeterminedly sent to face for our sins as righteous otherwise there would be no justification for us to be disciplined while being imputed Jesus' righteousness yet still stumble nor teach of such distinctions. Even a severe discipline is not an punishment from GOD sense punishment is taught as coming from Wrath toward an enemy not Gods Mercy and Love toward a received child.
    The teaching in
    Hebrews 12:4-11
    Should open ones mind to reflect Jesus' suffering as our source and example and what we go through until His return while in Him following after Him.

    • @josephkuzara2609
      @josephkuzara2609 5 лет назад +1

      I will even add as farther insight and clarification that we partake in the likeness of Jesus' suffering as He partook in the likeness of our sinful flesh in suffering.
      The distinction is that Jesus suffered severe correction for all the elects sins while the elect suffer correction that can lead to severity for their own sins(brother David and Paul the Apostle being examples of severe correction).
      Jesus also an example of an acceptable sacrifice for our sins made to be broken in spirit and to have a broken and contrite heart by Father's chastening and scourging being an living atonement(lev 16)in service to God, that Father would not despise nor it's afflictions He caused toward His son to accomplish it.
      Psalm 51:16-17
      For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
      You do not delight in burnt offering.
      17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
      A broken and a contrite heart-
      These, O God, You will not despise.
      Psalm 40:6-7
      Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
      7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
      Hebrews 10:1-10
      Therefore coming into the world, He says: "Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared me.
      In Isaiah 53 when it states that for the elects sins He was crushed or that it pleased Father to crush Him, that word in the Hebrew can mean to contrite which is consistent with what God recieves as an acceptable inward sacrifice in contrast to animal sacrifices. Jesus being sent as the ultimate sacrifice that Father desired and deemed acceptable to not despise. And sense being in Jesus we reflect in likeness within our own lifestyle what He went through. Contrite best suites the context of Isaiah 53.
      and we know that for our sins Jesus carried our sorrows and infirmities, was anguished in the soul and His body was broken for our sake(not in the sense of bones as prophesy declared no bone of Jesus would be broken). Jesus being contrite and broken in spirit and heart without sin of His own but as He was chastised and scourged for the elects sin, justifying many in His death.
      God does not desire physical sacrifices but spiritual sacrifices.starting with our service to God as holy living sacrifices to which David was submitted to realise of being an broken and contrite heart and spirit that is an acceptable sacrifice that God will not despise.
      So we can worship/serve God in spirit and truth offering up such spiritual sacrifices in Righteousness.
      Some of these spiritual sacrifices are as stated
      Hebrews 13:15-16
      15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased
      Philippians 4:18
      I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a sweet smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
      Romans 12:1
      Therefore I exhort you, brothers, through the compassions of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy to God, well-pleasing, which is your reasonable service.
      So in Christ what He endured as our source and example is reflected allot of what we go through in our service to God because Jesus atoned us, set us free from slavery of sin, the power of death Satan had over us keeping us captive to him and most importantly saved us from Father's Wrath by His Sinless volunteered death for the elect.

    Jesus suffered under His divine empathy due to His knowledge of the wickedness of mankind, but He did not suffer the punishment of anyone's generic sins. The carnal human is not an enemy to the Father or the Son, and They don't act as our foe, nor is mankind's generic sins, treasonous, to the Kingdom of God; because that Kingdom freely offers forgiveness and mercy to all generic sinners. The carnal human is enemy to the Holy Ghost, only (Matt. 12); due to the fallen nature which is alien and treasonous to all kingdoms of glory; which constitute the heart and mind of the Holy Ghost and points to the necessity of the Atonement. The Doctrine of Christ opens the door of salvation to the faithful and the defeat of Hell by Christ, blocks the great accuser from running interference against the movement of the faithful up the return path to Father.

God cursed Satan and Cain not Adam! Cain refused the call to repent and be cleansed to receive Life. All spirits souls and bodies made of nothing are NATURALLY mortal, even though the spirit and soul is still kept alive by the Logos till He judges them. "The Father Judges no one", till he is condemned by the Christ. Sproul is in deep trouble now in Hades, under the apostalic curse of Galatians. I suggest you all read the orthodox men the apostles really appointed and puke up the junk food!
