Recently got into photography (astrophotography primarily) and now I want to experiment in filming. A tripod has been the best purchase I ever bought. I use it way more than I thought. Even tried using a monopod which can be useful. And lately I finally buckled and got a selfie stick, lol. It was actually very useful since I am a solo photographer. But I ended up just using my tripod and camera delay function. I don't have enough practice in using a selfie stick though they are useful for taking close up shots. Or perhaps if you are vlogging.

This is really great! So many good tips. Definitely inspires me to better storytelling in my videos. Here’s my challenge: Most of the “how to film yourself” tutorials like this are set in areas where there are no other people. I live in a big city, where there are always other people not too far. I feel so uneasy about setting up my camera on a tripod and filming myself walking away. I’m so afraid that someone’s going to see me doing that and snatch my gear at the first opportunity! Any tips on getting shots like this in a city? Or is it simply a matter of being more creative in the shots. Maybe they need to mostly be mid and close shots, and then the wider shots don’t include me? Any ideas?

You make it all seem so easy that I want to have a go. Just need to find the time…
    … and learn the skills.

If I can film myself filming myself, you can absolutely film yourself! Make the time to learn the skills haha 🫶🏻

I use APPLE notes on my i phone to write my shot list If I am scouting on location for the pre-shoot I use APPLE notes to take photos of the various sets and locations and even angles I'll want, I'll mark the photos and add "notes" to the shot list within APPLE Notes. Of course, this eats up your storage if you're on a limited icloud plan so you'll likely have to purge the photos once you've shot your film

Yes!!! Thank you for this!!!! I asked on your other video for more details on shooting by myself and how to keep things in focus and what settings (aperture priority? Full manual? Full auto?) to use, keeping in frame, etc

I set it in full manual :) so no auto white balance, iso or shutter speed.
