Don Coldwell ...there is great mods you can do to the brs 8 I use mine in a tranjia stove . you can buy a adaptor so the burner you throw away the heavy casing and fits in a tranjia I also bought the gas canister adaptor as the one that comes with the brs you can only use the expensive gas canister.
I think meths is too expensive and compared to gas there is no comparison.

you most likely have figured this out by now, but the typical jet in these stoves (as shipped) is for fuels like Coleman, etc. -- NOT heavier fuels (kerosene, etc.) which require a smaller jet size. Some people have tried using less pressure in the bottle if you have no choice but to use the standard jet size with heavier fuels because the feed rate goes down with less pressure allowing the burner to "catch up" with the fuel and burn it more completely.
Kerosene (and similar heavier fuels) are great when you know how to use them efficiently. But they can be a total disaster if you don't!

A tip that my scoutmaster told me when I was using a stove that burned wood, Biolite Camptove, was to put dish soap on the outside of the the pot or pan before cooking with it. I have not fully tried it yet but you should give it a try. This should help with the soot on the pot.

White gas, gasoline, kerosene, diesel - yes! Lamp oil- NO! Who told you to use lamp oil?. If you preheat with about a tablespoon of alcohol- you will see a huge difference. Maybe not with lamp oil, but definitely with the fuels it's designed to burn.

These stoves are good when they are working and are value for money. The things I don`t like about them is the burner is too close to the ground, so there is a potential fire risk unless it is placed on top of something. Also the stove has too many moving parts and seals so could fail, not good if you are in a remote location. The most reliable stoves are Trangias using methylated spirits. They are reliable, relatively light and most importantly have no moving parts. Yes they take longer to heat but I am prepared to wait knowing a Trangia wont fail.

hahaha you should take out the .35 nozzle and get the .30 for lamp oil, kerosine, or diesel.
Its too rich because the nozzle is too big.
The wire is for brushing the preheat pipe, and to reduce flow. If you remove the nozzle you can see the wire.
Next time you better let the valve closed and preheat that stove with alcohol or nail remover or so.
    Now all became black. :-(

You just clogging the jet with soot and effing your pot bottom up. Be aware the pumps are ticking time bombs on these stoves.
