The fact Dennis wrote it and sang it and the lyrics " i'm gonna go away, but not forever", hurts too much. Dennis really wrote some beautiful, melancholy haunting songs. All 3 brothers had amazing musical abilities. Unfortunately Dennis's life ended way to soon. Well Carl's did aswell. They will be missed with gratitude for what they gave us while they were here.

Dennis was awesome, he went fishing with my Dad. Both my parents Loved him like he was their Son, and Dennis loved them back. I called him Big brother because Dennis protected me!
Brian may have been the brains of the band, but Dennis was the spirit. All the ladies loved him, he was the only one in the group who surfed, he loved cars, etc. He was the epitome of all their early songs about surfing and cars.
Carl was definitely the soul since he kept the band together through Brian's absence, Dennis' death, Mike's sellout douchebaggery, etc. When he died, so did the band.@@Allthisisthat31

I've posted this thought somewhere else on RUclips. In one of the Beach Boy biopics, there was a scene that occurred after Murry had thrown Dennis out of the house and disparaged him and they'd had serious trouble, Murry met Dennis out on the sidewalk after a recording session. Murry says to Dennis, "That really is a beautiful song, Dennis." Dennis thanks him and they had a momentary reconciliation. I hope that there is some reality in that scene. Even if the reconciliation didn't last, I hope they were able to find some peace together.. Whether we admit it or not, guys need our Dads.
