  • Improve your Iaido & Learn the art of quick draw (Nukitsuke) with these Iaido techniques
    We love a good quickdraw, especially the ones we see in Samurai Films & Animes. However is it really representational in real life? Is speed really the end goal in Sword Drawing?
    In this video I am sharing a rare pov breakdown of how a Japanese sword is intended to be drawn. And pose a philosophical question on what justifies as an appropriate way to draw a Japanese sword.
    think of an example like below:
    During wartime: kill or be killed - is everything negligible as long you can fight another day by being the fastest to draw your sword?
    In modern Iaido: the pursuit of perfection - is neglecting towards the care of your sword and techniques is the right way to reflect your shortcomings and to improve upon yourself?
    Let's discuss!

    For the guy who thinks this is kind of slow: "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" Skill builds quicker than you think. You demonstrated many points that would take years to pick up on. Thank you.

      @@NamazuRyuSaiken When learning new combat techniques, it is important to master every aspect slowly, until they become a habit/instinct, before speeding up and doing them quickly. Like "stay off the walls, peel corners wide, cover your sector, aim slightly in front of the target." Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, was a good reminder for us to slow down and concentrate on doing it correctly.

    I don't believe I've seen any videos on your channel with actual cuts (on pool noodles or tatami) that would be consistent with kihon nukitsuke. Do you not have that is part of your practice?

    • @NamazuRyuSaiken
      @NamazuRyuSaiken  2 года назад

      Weird - there should be some vids of me cutting here. But this video was made last year - I need to update it. Also this video was showing basics leaning more for seitei Iaido way of Nukitsuke if that make sense? And the vid also meant to target the pure beginners....then again I need to update these old videos
