This video shows a group of construction workers building a large outdoor deck structure. They are dealing with various challenges, such as measuring and leveling the posts, installing heavy wooden girders and joists, and working in cold, rainy conditions. The workers use a variety of tools, including a laser level, tape measures, hammers, and nail guns, and they discuss techniques for ensuring the structure is level and properly supported. The video also includes a discussion about the cost of materials, such as stone and stucco, that will be used to finish the project. Overall, the video provides an inside look at the complex process of constructing a substantial outdoor deck.

Jamie needs to take “Professor” as his nickname. I feel as though he’s the guy that keeps all the crew up to speed with his top tips. Need more tutorials from him.
Question for you. What's the price per board installed on drywall your way? Someone is posting Ashville is at $250 per board. Is that a legit price?
This video was cozy like This Old House and hot chocolate. Felt like I learned something. Jaime has a great way of explaining things.
He should totally consider a podcast.
the mood in your videos always makes me feel good. thank you all so much for sharing!
It’s called aura now
Thank You for letting Jaime talk!! I loved the little video while the weather was too cold making saw horses indoors! KUTGW
Jaime needs a woodworking channel. Seriously.
Yes 100%

There is a trick to cutting framing material with just two horses You move the horses really close, to where you can barely stand between them and allow the piece to hang long on both sides. Your blade will only bind if you are pushing down on the wood. If you are using a power saw, let it float. The boards will lift the saw as they weaken; if anything, you may have to put a bit of down pressure towards the end of the cut to prevent splitting. With a hand saw, cut down an eighth inch, flip the board over then keep your blade as close to horizontal as possible and just holding it from sliding with your offhand. You can do it with sheet goods, too, but only as long as you can reach.
My preferred tools for this are a chainsaw or Agawa Canyon bowsaw with their most aggressive blade. The wood will start to feed itself into the blade and you can just focus on keeping the saw steady.
I have 50 year old saw horses that I built on the job site when I contracted my first home build, they are different than yours with plywood gussets holding the legs in position and a 2×6 top. The thing I like about them is they are stackable,,no stretchers are needed, easier to haul around. They are still going strong.
Yeah i made mine stackable aswell, thats whats good about those metal brackets, during the strength test they should've added a board on top aswell and they would've performed better
Totally agree, I always built mine to stack. I beveled my legs length wise and sideways to be more stable. Plywood gussets too. I also added a 2x4 sideways on the legs to make a step on each side. 👍🍺
I think the most important part of diy saw horses are storage
Now I m from across the pond, 58 yrs old now. Time served plasterer . I have witnessed these old veteran carpenters , rustle up with any old shit!! Bracing from the ply shuttering. Time is money!! On site a carpenter named Keith God rest his soul ❤ he built out of scrap a saw vice . So he and the other chippies could reset an sharpen their saws
Don't saw tools like that anymore worth that sort of effort. Could talk about plastering trowels all day long but not about that lol 😂 . Brilliant video as always. To all the Perkins crew my respect. 👍👍
Best saw horse design i have ever seen is the ones built by awesome framers on youtube. Different style but great! Love your content!
If Jaime wrote a book with all his woodworking knowledge - 10 / 10 would buy!
And if he got Arlo to put in some of his wizardly knowledge - 11 / 10 would buy!!
Always a treat to meet/see the crew working or lollygagging in the shop. Eric, hats off to you for the high resolution of the video, the skillful editing and the extremely soothing background music. Cheers from the Great Lakes in Canada.
I was casually surfing RUclips after watching my favorite channels-one about a family of four living on an island and, of course, Yes Theory. Then I stumbled upon your channel and thought, Wait, how does this video have 16M views in just two years? And boom-I fell straight into the rabbit hole.
I had a blast watching you guys build houses! The way you talk to each other is so natural-like a regular group of friends just messing around while casually constructing entire buildings. Then it hit me-Jaime reminds me of a certain TV show character. Not exactly look-alike vibes, but more of that genius, math-and-structures-whiz energy. And suddenly, it clicked-you guys are basically the cast of Prison Break!
Erik as Lincoln Burrows - the older, charismatic brother.
Jaime as Michael Scofield - the brilliant structural engineer.
Jayson as Fernando Sucre - the funny, loyal, and hardworking bestie.
(Sorry, Ray, Jono, and Arlo-I haven't figured out who you are yet, but give me time. 😂)
I’ve always wanted to try building something myself, like a kitchen cabinet, some shelves, or even just simple carpentry stuff. But seeing you guys in action makes me feel both super inspired and comically underqualified. 😂
Anyway, just wanted to say I love your content! Wishing more success to your channel and your whole crew. Keep building and keep being awesome! 🙌🏼 From the Philippines.
I like the advantech horses that awesome framers build that folds flat
Perkins Crew.. Sawhorses in the past as in the 40's through the 70's had to pass through a 16" spaced stud wall in other words 14 1/2" you can do that if the top bar and stretcher bar are spaced right.. I remember when I got my first job on a building crew having to build my own set of sawhorses. That was as they say the test to get a job. Often we would make them with a shelf as the stretcher because it could hold our Plaine and Chisels and other tools as well as our Hand saws Rip and Crosscut. Amazing how far we have come isn't it. Keep up the videos, love them. John in Missouri Valley Iowa
I agree with Jason on the little jig if you could 3D print that I would buy a bunch of those just to have around and to give as gifts.
I was just gonna comment that he should make a quick STL file for those of us with printers for the angle marking jig!
I could model it up and 3d print and send out to you if you’d pay shipping.
@@jobsanbiju3762 make the model and share it!
JAIME, SOUNDS FRENCH, ???
@jobsanbiju3762 share the STL file, friend
I am sure most people have seen these on
Next Level Carpentry, BUT,
The load testing is amazing..
Next Level Carpentry, Build these super strong sawhorses..
But, I'm going to put a set of yours together, also.
Long time subscriber here. I'm laughing at myself. As a Financial Advisor, I consider my time valuable and will pay others to do things for me because it saves me time. Yet I happily sat here for almost 20 minutes watching this video on building a saw horse. Only you guys! Oh, I'm team #legjaimetalk, too.
Tims Awesome Framers saw horses kick ass.
guys, My experience in making saw horses with the metal brackets using sheet rock screws was okay to start with, but even with light use they began to wobble. Further support is necessary to reduce sideways flexing. I do like your how to video.
Guessing the lumber didn't arrive? Fun to see u dudes farting around in the shop!🤣🤣🤣
DON'T"" RIB-- EM"" TO HARD, THEY'RE GONNA DO A PANTY SHOW NEXT WEEK. STARRING JASON AS TOP MODEL ! 😊😊😊😊 I LOVE WATCHIN THESE GUYS !!! THEY HAVE SOME GOOD INFORMATION AND THEY MAKE ME LAUGH !!! ALSO ERIC IS A DAREDEVIL CLIMBING AROUND ON EXTRA HIGH STUFF !!! HIM AND JAMMIE !!! 😮😮😮
GREAT JOB on the video guys! As always… we LOVE Jaime’s simple explanations, attention to detail and awesome sense of humor!! 👏
Excellent video! Love the normal ones but would so much love more of these too!!
Pretty awesome video! My favorite part? "What's with that old drill?" The first thing I was thinking too!
The best construction advice and demonstration. Helping serious builders to be excellent. Thank you.
Perkins Bros is like a College Course.
Dr Perkins PH D
This was an excellent episode. I propose Jamie should get a guest spot on Nick Engler’s show. I think they would be great on screen together
Awesome vid! Bought me some of them there premade saw horse 🐎 brackets few yrs back... they are about as good as using pop cans 🥫 attached to foam board...
This is giving me mythbuster vibes from my childhood. Cool but simple demonstration. Maybe this could be another sub series on the channel? 🤔 Building and testing loads on small scale structure designs. Very cool and informative videos on the channel. Keep up the great content.
Hi Guys , as an apprentice back in the seventies in the uk we had to make a pair of saw horses & a saw block for holding your saws whilst sharpening as our Trade test . Made many similar to yours for stacking sheet materials & timber over the years , far better than store bought ones for sure 😄
I love you guys ..... 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
You guys are so funny and so generous with your knowledgeable and experience. I'm happy to see you successful and thriving, you deserve it!
Jamie & the guys, that was so fun.
The only thing missing was
the shot of you stacking the horses.
I would like to see how they stack up.
I"m in, f you do a podcast.
I'm team: "Let Jamie Talk"
hUgz from Ohio for the whole crew, Lee
These look great for a portable and strong horse.
For a shop sawhorse I like the one in Aldren Watson’s Hand Tools book. It’s designed more for hand sawing with a low, 2x6 top and a ripping notch. Quite useful but much more involved to make.
Thank you for sharing.
If u add a 2x4 to the bottom, creating an I beam, that will establish your angle! Then just add legs to the sides. Cheers!
okay the best tips, the jig and using the other pieces of wood to help keep the saw flat. 👍
You guys are just so much fun to watch, really funny, I don't see how yall get any work done but you do and it's looks excellent and it must be cause people keep ya going. I'm sure it's not always a comedy show or anything, I bet the time sure passes quick, have a good week guys.
Since I was a home repairman and had to carry everything I might need on my camper topped pickup, I found the plastic folding sawhorses to be most useful. I went through a few sets in the years I was in business but the only time they failed me was when I did something stupid like backing over them. I saw many shop made sawhorses I liked but just no way to carry them everywhere in the limited space of my pickup.
ya put a shelf in the middle about half way down to eliminate the racking. also good place for boxes of screws, tools, gatorade off the floor
drill a few holes in it, keep air tools, chisel, screwdrivers, whatever
indoor for the shop? put casters on on it and piece of plywood loose if ya need a table
Great video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
My Dad a skilled joiner (now passed) was forever making these, because he kept giving his away, to budding DIY'ers.
The old tried and true. One recommendation I would make is to make the tops of a couple of your sawhorses out of 2x10 or 2x12. I also cut and routed some handles into mine. Definitely heavier but basically makes them double as a decent work surface. The other great thing about these types of sawhorses is the sky is the limit. You could make 16' sawhorses if you really wanted to. I made a couple of these sawhorses ~10 years ago and ended up adding some vertical and horizontal 2x4s to make a ladder rack that holds probably 20 ladders, my scaffolding planks, and various materials. Easily a couple thousand pounds. Still going strong.
Yeah I struggled to build a pair of those. It was embarrassing 😅. I will try out the plans. Thanks y'all
Loving the edits😂. Awesome video and awesome design on the sawhorses!
The bracket version is very compact to take with you if you screw the top beam in from one side, making it foldable. If you don't screw the top one in it's even more compact. Ideal to throw in the back of your car for a just in case situation when helping some friends out with some little job. Or just to have a bunch in a box for when you run out of room for material. 16 screws and some wood you can later reuse gets you an extra set for storage, as they are very strong in the downward direction.
I love you guys. That is all. 😊
I always eventually add a scrap of plywood for a shelf.
I pretty sure once upon a time fine home building did the definitive sawhorse article. But this might be creative memory.
I make mine alot rougher and no angle cuts. 3 3 foot long 2x4 nailed (using my framing nailer)to form an I-beam. 4 2x4 - 32 inch legs leg nailed to the I-beam using the web of the I- beam and the bottom rail to form the leg spread angle. A scrap of plywood as a gusset to keep the legs from spreading.
Love the video guys, great work as always
Thanks. I've been using a folding table. I think I will build some sawhorses.
should name this video. We let Jamie talk lol great video
Thank you!! I been wanting to make a set of these but didn’t know how to. Love the simplicity of it with standard tools. Making them tomorrow
when cutting the angle tops i always align the four legs clamp together and use a straight edge that way its only 2 cuts
Love your videos. Over the years I have made many similar saw horses. The problem always was that they were bulking and did not stack well. Now in my twilight years I have gone to metal foldable saw horses (rugged ones not cheapies) as I use a tool trailer and its all about being compact. That being said its near impossible to make a "one size fits all" in terms of applications and your design is great for meeting most requirements and it gives Jamie something to talk about 😆
Too funny. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Great change of pace video - love it!
Awesome video. I'm reminded of the TV show MythBusters! Informative, science based, and pretty damned funny! As the Essential Craftsman says, "Keep up the good work!"
that horse with the clamps was the winner! :D it used just 5 boards and fewer screws and it was almost as good as the GOD TIER saw horse which had 3 boards more + screws AND nails! so...
Please do a video on how to fix things around the house. Like when there’s a gap between title wood floors and the baseboard and cold air and spiders get through. What do you use to seal it?
Just box it up like ikea.
You can sell it 😅😊
Don't forget to stamp it with the perkins logo 😉
No plan needed, thank you! I came up with a great sawhorse design about 3 decades ago! 1" RHS steel framework with large washers on the feet & a timber top bolted on (for replacement later & recessed bolts) I made them stackable (& believe it or not, I can stack 2 for extra height under planks etc & they are pretty stable but I'd still use braces!) All these years later, some have never had their tops replaced, only a few from other guys either cutting or nailing into them. The steel frames are very strong (even with heavy beams) & don't get all loose like the timber ones eventually do! As far as I know, there's no others like them nor have I ever seen a design like mine on another job site....... Do I need to watch the video?? Cheers!
I love you guys, especially Jamie. No homo. I was just getting ready to build me some new sawhorses because my old ones just completely rotted out and went tits up. Timely as always.
Great video. I look forward to more like this 👍🏾!!!
Made mine out of 1x4 with a standing 2x4 at the top 20 years ago. still going strong. No angels needed. And you can stack them ontop of each other
Two things - The drill reminded me of my very first cordless drill (Ryobi). I built two of those saw horses with those same brackets. It was a pain putting the 2x4 to link the two ends together .
Looked like fun. Thanks Jaime.
JAIME NEEDS TO WRITE A BOOK
Good tip on the saw horses. Thanks.
Love it.. a simple video that’s beneficial.. you should trademark that😂😂
Thank you, Jaime, for making your sawhorse design open source.
2:12 yep. Got ‘em, love ‘em
I'm love'n this vid hints and tips overload 😅😅👌🇦🇺
Probably going to build these my next set. Cant have enough saw horses around.
What a chill video. More please!
i don't know if i missed something, i thought Jamie said he can stack 10 horses in small place. i don't see that here, or is that a different horse? either way it wasn't shown. but did enjoy the video !!!!!!
Thank you
I'd buy one of them saw horse jigs
Two quick thoughts. The metal bracket one could be further reinforced by adding another 2x4 on top (making a t beam just like Jamie’s design). And finally for the racking, some simple bracing would send Jamie’s over the top. You could do the same with the metal brackets, but at that point it’s become just as engineered as Jamie’s, what’s the point. Enjoyed the video. #letjamietalk !
Have a look at Robin clevett saw its really strong 💪 great doin great work from Ireland 🇮🇪
Cool 😎
Great video more like this would be perfect
Fantastic video as always. I’m building a garage in the UK and your mega house videos have been so useful when setting out and building my footings on a sloping site.
I follow a master carpenter in the UK called Robin Clevitt. One of his videos showed how he makes a saw horse. Interestingly it was also a task he had to do as an apprentice. Like a mark of passage thing. You guys are great!
i loved this video a lot ! i wouldn't mind if there where more like these :D
Thanks Jamie for the free plans. Just sold online for $2.99 😂
He'll ya Boyz more of the side videos good stuff Jamie 👌
I may be mis remembering, since it has been a about thirty years since I had a set. BUt I think AUDELS Carpenters and Builders Guide had instructions for saw horses. The set I used to have were printed at the beginning of time and I don't have them anymore, however they were pretty comprehensive.
I do a open design on bottom and I put a replaceable 3/4 top other stackable by design.I also have custom ND set for log workup to 20'' type.Have dealt to which I think they rated for 1000-1500.
The cat in sketch up gets me every time. 😂
WE NEED MORE JAMIE HOW TO’S!!!🎉😊
Nice job! check out Essential Craftsman's sawhorse's, takes them to the lumber yard and stacks tons of hacks of plywood weight on them!
just built some sawhorses last week!! wish y'all would have put this out a week earlier!
Thanks good. One!
Love it. Give us 10 more 😂!
I've been using the sawhorse plans from "Basic Construction Techniques For Houses And Small Buildings Simply Explained " prepared by the bureau of naval personnel pg's 224,225,226 for close to 50 years most of the picture's and drawings came from WW2 I'd bet but published in 1972 for the public.
i have two set of the metal ones you guys dont like. the only thing i do like about the metal ones is they fold up and are easy to store and easy to transport around and don't take up alot of room. i use them all the time and have never been cut by them. but are not as strong as the wooden ones so don't hold up as much weight and also are not as wide. the wooden ones are great as you can also build them taller if you are a tall guy. but they are hard to store and take up alot of room. the ones you threw together with the metal brackets for the legs didn't have a cross brace so they could stack on top of each other and take up less room to store. but great video keep up the good work
The legs should be slightly angled outwards, this provides support to prevent swaying - if you don't want to, put a small side support underneath at a 45-degree angle.
Nice saw horses. What about adding 7/16 OSB sheathing to the upper half/section to prevent racking. It will add weight, but would help with racking - like it does with houses.
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing
I can use this later- thanks 😊
Autopsy of the saw horse a nice touch 👍
I’m going home and building some for me! Thanks Jamie!!
