    Well this brings back memories......Graduated from Boot Camp in San Diego back in
    May 1969. Stayed for 20 years and retired as a Chief. It is not for everyone, but you will learn something for sure out of your enlistment. No regrets and enjoyed the travel.

    I grad from here in 1985, right around this time of year, end of April. It was so hot in that hangar that guys to the left and right of me were passing out, dropping like flies. It was HELL to simply remain at attention and not wipe sweat off my nose! Good times...

    There are some things I loved about boot camp graduation back in 2003, but seeing this video made me wish we had these things in 2003, but one thing I wish was added was the bugler. This video the drum cadence is awesome, we didn't have symbols to denote the change of maneuvers in the state flags or pass in review. We heard three clunks on the drum with the three bass drums sounding. On the drum measure at the end of the measure, you heard one clunk if it was continuing to repeat until a change in maneuver happened or something halted on the marching. On the color guard, we marched from one end of the drill hall to the reviewing stand marching to Grand Ole Flag and presenting the colors at the reviewing stand. Then march in the direction to the other end of the drill hall. .The bugler made it so awesome to present arms, order arms, call adjutant's call, parade rest, and attention. The biggest thing was during "THE SAILOR'S CREED," the bugler would sound present arms prior to the person saying the sailor's creed. Both are awesome and love watching these graduations on here. These sailors here are on point.

    Nice Ceremony in a huge building! But I miss San Diego Graduation Ceremonies, with Recruits passing out in the sun & firing the 5" guns when an Admiral attended. This ceremony was more intimate, sound traveled well in the building. I like at the end when family & friends go down onto the parade ground, it filled the space fast.

    I noticed they started with Div. 363. I graduated U.S. Navy bootcamp in Great Lakes (probably the same hanger bay) back in October of 1989. They are using the term "Division"now apparently....our units were called "Company". I was in Company 342. When we said "Division", it referred to our barracks (two story building that housed 4 Companies). I was in Division 13.

    • @KathieHessCrouse
      @KathieHessCrouse  10 лет назад +1

      It is now Ships and Divisions. Ships is the Building Section, and Division is the sleeping barrack inside. Usually 2 brother divisions in each graduating class. Can not remember how many divisions a ship holds, but there is usually one set of brother divisions graduating out of a ship. There are 14 ships now. But not always 14 ships graduating each week. Usually only 9-14 divisions. Graduating. :-)

      When I went through in Aug, 1970, they were Companies, Battalions & Regiments...4 companies per floor, each floor being a being a battalion and the 3 story "H" shaped building being the regiment. I was in Co. 333, 17th Battalion, 1st Regiment. We were Hall of Fame Company (first HoF company in 3 years). When we PIR, the first SEVERAL ranks could not be seen because of the flags (14 awarded flags with banners (awarded total of 35 flags, so lots of banners), Company Flag & Personal Company Flag. We had a Company Commander (SM1 John W. Hancock).

  • @ElGato-od1jb
    @ElGato-od1jb 11 лет назад +1

    I also noticed that the flag guards appear to be carrying different rifles than the honor guard. I think the former had M-1 Garands, while the latter had 1917 Springfields. I think the Springfield is lighter and so would be easier for the acrobatics portion of their "show". Still not easy, especially for those who have to practice in their spare time, which recruits have very little of.
    Good Job!

    I think an indoor graduation parade is kinda ... well inappropriate. They sailors may find themselves on the deck of a carrier, with a 30+ knot wind blowing the rain and spray over the deck, while servicing aircraft.
    AF doesn't go indoors at Lackland, even in the Texas Summer heat.
