Good project and innovative. Here are a few suggestions that you might have already discovered being as this is a year-old video. First, the bolts for your t-couplings are going to add pressure points that will cause holes in the tarp, so some manner of protection is needed on those like pool noodle foam. Second, the tarp on the ground is a good idea for protecting the wood, but it's bound to create standing water under the tent that will create a humid environment. To solve that, get a tarp large enough that you can fold over the floor, secure it with the walls, and trim as necessary. That will create a water-tight base and prevent critters from making a home in the void under the floor. Last, lag bolts would be better than screws for the base especially for windy environments.
This is brilliant. We are putting together one of these storage sheds now, and I want a floor like that.
Hi @picadilly3184 . Thanks for the comment and thanks for compliment. The hardest thing you might find is finding all the same size pallets. :-) . If you want to see another example of this floor, we actually used it in a temporary greenhouse that we had. You can see the video here: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.htmlsi=0tNeshKZ3J0yKuqa . If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Clever, I like it.
My experience with tent shelters is the sun dries out the cover and that is what is most destructive.
So I stretch a silver tarp over the factory cover. I use the silver one because it reflects sunlight better than the others. The green and blue ones are not tight knit and they will let sunlight through to shorten the life of the cover.
I use rope to tie down the silver tarp which should last 3-4 years. When you replace it, you will see the factory cover still looks like new.
To keep critters out I just toss mothballs in there from time to time.
This guy is great! Very well spoken and best of all he doesn't say "GO AHEAD AND" before every fucking sentence. Keep up the good work hopefully other content creators can learn from you!
Hi @markoefinger475 . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the comment and compliment. Glad you enjoyed the video. You can see another application of this floor in our temporary greenhouse video: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.htmlsi=7hca2VYlWVweonCy . So ... GO AHEAD AND ... Check it out, haha ;-) . Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
That was really neat! Thanks for taking the time to film it all! Best video on making a floor for these things!
Hi @amymcknight6674 . Thanks for the comment. It really is an inexpensive way to create a wood floor ;-) . We actually first did this on a temporary greenhouse that we made, using the Harbor Freight tent frame. You can check out that video here: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html . You'll get a really good feel on how the floor works and some shelving that we made out of pallets as well. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Great job
Yep, Lots of Work. Great Graphics!
Hi @StudioGalvan . Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. We actually made one of these floors for a temporary greenhouse that we had. If you want to get some other pictures from what it looked like inside, you can check them out in this video: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html . Feel free to reach out to us with any questions. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Good video
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Many many thanks
That's a lot of work. Looks like a nice patio!
Thank you. It could also be a dance floor. ;-)
Getting closer with camera probably good idea?
Great video!
Hi Jeff: Thanks for the compliment. This was part of another video we made called Taking Down Our Temporary Green House 2021, you might find that interesting: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html
Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
I'm definitely doing that..I need it for Harley and my Quad..ty..
Hi James: Ride on!!! Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Where the bolts go through the frame, go ahead and wrap it with duct tape, same as the joints, tape around the pipes. Get an extra year or 2 or more out of the tent.
Thank you for the suggestion and thanks for watching!
These 10x17 harbor freight tents have decent frames, but the cover will last about 2 years. After that, the inner lining starts to flake like dandruff. I know from experience.
Hi @snipestaxservice7983 . Sorry for the delayed response. I know what you're talking about. I've been using these tents for over 10 years. What we do is we get a heavy-duty tarp (not the ones from Harbor Freight) and cover the top of them. This prolongs the life of the canopy. Also, in case you didn't know, you can buy the canopy from Harbor Freights Parts instead of buying a whole new tent. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Great video! I'm thinking about using lag screws instead of bolts when fastening the planks together, and wondering if there is a reason to not do that.
Just order my tent yesterday... Running out of room here. Really like your floor.. Great Job. Wanting to extend my wood shop..Would enjoy seeing more ideals from you.
Hi Mark: These tents are great! I have about 4 of them on my property with the same floor base. I use them all for a variety of different storage from my wood & building materials to tools storage. We even have one set up with shelves so that we can store those back & yellow storage bins you can get a Home Depot and Lowes. One of those Harbor Freight tents we fit over 80 of those bins. Actually, this video was part of another video we had where we used the Harbor Freight tent frame as a greenhouse with the wood floor. See attached link ... ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html . This video will give you another look at how the wood floor could work for you. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Outstanding.
Thank you for watching. We're glad you liked it.
@@jdgardensnj4563 Do you operate a commercial Nursery?
@@bv2999 No, we do everything ourselves but we've opened up a shop on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/JDGardensNJ
Nice job on the video
Hi @michaelws65 : Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. It was actually part of another video where I used the same floor to make a temporary greenhouse, using the Harbor Freight tent. Be sure to check it out so you can see other pictures on the pallet floor: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html . I'm also going to be doing a Follow-Up video to this one later this summer - so keep an eye for it. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
That floor looks nice!
I built my Harbor freight garage laying on its side and just rolled it upright. a lot easier.
You should checkout that new 12x20 model they have now with a heavy duty tarp.
I just bought one and actually in the process of putting it together (by myself) as I write this.... just did the center of the ceiling.... thinking about building in two pieces and then putting them together... u built it on its side?
Thanks for showing how you did this. It’s amazing!! Did you finish with the tent material or did you you corrugated steel (something like that?
Hi Me Gr: Thanks for the comment. I actually just used these tents for storage so I used the canopy that came with it. At one point I even made a greenhouse out of it. You can see it in this video link: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html . This will show you some more pictures & video of what the floor looks like. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan
Hi Great Floor, deck did you treat the wood? Stain or paint
Just noticed your wall pipe Tees might be upside down, the curve part goes on top...just trying to help...
I really like your idea of EXTRA ROOF SUPPORTS ....That's an Excellent Notion! Great Job
Hi Michael: Thanks for your comment. I just used these tents for storage so no need to stain them - they're pallet wood so they're pretty well dried out. And if you notice, I add a heavy-duty tarp on the floor to keep the bottom of the pallets from rotting out. As far as the tees, I'm not understanding because the rounded part is on the ridge and the straight part is the extra support. But yes, I really wish that Harbor Freight would make this extra support Standard. I have 4 of these tents on my property and have added the extra supports on all of them. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
I'm wondering why the extra five inches on the outside of the wall.
That appears to be a place for water and debris to collect. But thanks for listing the dimensions, now I know what size to build my floor.
Hi Mike B: Thanks for the comment. The reason we have that extra space on the sides is because the skids that we have come in a particular size...all uniform. So when we line it up with the Harbor Freight tent frame, that's what remains. And we didn't want to have to cut them down. And to answer your question, it doesn't collect any water/debris but I guess that would depend on how close you have it to trees, for the leaves to fall on it. I hope this answers your question but if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
What do you do about the animals getting inside? Seems to me the tarp walls still won't be secured along the bottom unless you did something there. I know this was about a floor for the canopy but you mentioned about the critters getting in. That's the problem Im working on solving now. I had this very same idea yesterday (that you've constructed in your video) but my purpose was more for keeping critters out. I was hoping to see how you finished off the tarp to the knee-walls to prevent things from getting inside. Did you secure the bottom of the tarp walls to the knee-wall? Or is it just dangling there?
Hi @reviveoutdoors . Thanks for the comment. There's different things you can do for different critters. For things like snakes, which we get alot of ... no matter how well you wrap it up, snakes will slither their way in. So what I do, is I spread a snake repellent granules around the perimeter and that tends to take care of them. Ground hogs, I usually don't have a problem with because they like to be underground. Racoons generally don't hang around there unless there is something for them to eat. The biggest problem we have are stray cats. I find that the strong scent of the snake repellent helps with them as well. But as far as securing the sides, I have tried in the past to punch grommets in them and screw it down to the side of the walls. Another thing you can do is buy wiggle wire channel, screw it to the wood side walls and lock in the flaps that way. That would be the best way to secure the flaps. If you're not familiar with wiggle wire, we actually did a video where we used a floor like this for a temporary greenhouse and we used the wiggle wire to secure the greenhouse plastic. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.htmlsi=jeWesCpe8y-v-T8C . Also, I'll be coming out with a new video, showing you how to add a tarp to the top of the tent and secured to the base to help extend the life of the actual tent canopy ... so keep an eye for that.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
We’re do I find all the material and how much dose it cost? I rlly want to make this for my harbor freight garage tent
Hi @dioniciozeferino8214 . Thanks for the comment. As far as finding material ... wherever you can come across pallets, preferably all uniform in size. We like to go dumpster diving behind warehouses and other industrial facilities, where we get lucky. So the cost of the pallets are free, for us. The only thing we really pay for are things like nuts and bolts and the staples and the nails. That all came out to be less than $50. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
Did we ever get a finished pic?
Hi James: This video was actually part of another video where I used that base for a temporary greenhouse where I used a Harbor Freight tent frame as the structure. You can check out that video: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.html
But as I mention in the video, I do use that same base for my storage tents. Maybe one day I'll make a Follow-Up video to that but the temporary greenhouse video will really show you what it looks like. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
@@jdgardensnj4563 sounds cool. I'll check it out.
Where's the video showing the carport setup??
Hi @rideordiechickdietoride4557 . Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the comment. The video's intention was to show you how to create a floor for the carport. We originally did a video showing how we used the carport as a greenhouse, which you can see here: ruclips.net/video/M0gUZYCpIAk/видео.htmlsi=piS_VzUZIBFeuUib , and then later using this floor for our storage tents. But if we ever have to put up another one, we'll make a video for it. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
thank you, will watch it now@@jdgardensnj4563
The snakes are my worry.
Hi tree fiddly. Thanks for your comment. If you're still having problems with the snakes getting over the wall, you can get snake repellent granules on Amazon or Home Depot... they'll help keep the snakes out. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
