You are blessed to eat Akkawi in Sobhi Kaber restaurant, the owner has background story has to tell...he started his line with disturbed homemade kitchen...coming from multiple surroundings and his neighbors cooking for him..also lot of people he supported and their family...he is legendary ❤🎉
I just found your channel yesterday! Ive been watching your videos back to back since then 😂 Egypt looks like so much fun!
It is incredible, I love it here! Come visit Egypt! 😎
I cannot wait to visit again. I really enjoyed Sobhy earlier this year. Shukran gdn for sharing your love for Egypt with everyone else.
oxtail tagen is one of the best local dishes here, and sonbhi kaber, omg, food from heaven!
it's not fancy, it's an average restaurant that every tourist should try to feel the real vibes of Cairo, the city that never sleeps...
never sleeps!

My age is 22 and I'm abig fan to uuu , I'm also from egypt live in cairo

Awwwwww! I could have snatched that right out of your hands, Giselle! Never thought of having that in Egypt. Very good video!
Ahaha. Yes so delicious! Loved it 😁😍
Gisselle, can you add this Tajeen dish to my "Talabaat international" list along with the Shawarma sandwiches? Please bring both on your way back to the US. My wife and I are still waiting ❤
My wife is Canadian, and every time she watches you dining at any Egyptian restaurant, she asks me when are we going there! I ran out of all excuses, so it will be appreciated if you can make a video speaking about a bad experience for you in Egypt so she stops asking me to go there 😅
Lol. Looks like you're out of luck! I love it here. Now I'm gunna have to nag you too bwahaha. What are you waiting for? Yalla it's time to go back and visit the homeland. Your wife will love all these amazing dishes, you must bring her so she can try it from the source. Time to talabat yourselves here 🤣

I love beef tail and one of my favorite dishes as an Egyptian .. Actually i am eating it today :D
I love your videos and love the fact that you like my country and hope you have an amazing stay here
Thank you so much! 😁🙏🙏
Thank you for sharing 🌷
As usual Egyptian restraints genres in quantities .
Oxtail..i have had this cooked.jamaican style but never in egypt..the tagine i have had with veggies..honestly dear you are so cute in your love for egypt..and great you are making videos that encourage ppl to visit..most youtubers just trash it to get more views!
Thank you so much! 🙏 It is a sad but true trend, many RUclipsr's seem to come here, complain about people talking to them, and make a video with the title SCAM! 🙄 So lazy, unoriginal, and fairly often not even accurate
The first piece you ate was from the end of the tail, so you go higher up the tail you get more meat and less fat. The meat in beef tails are the best of the cow. It is a different texture and flavour of meat from the rest of the cow, great in soup/stew/BBQ.
Yes it was DELICIOUS. I thought it would be kind of weird but actually it was amazing, will definitely be ordering akawy again
Just came to Tanger Morocco yesterday and tajin everywhere but oxtail tagin only in Egypt 😊.. enjoy
Haha, nice. So delicious. Enjoy Morocco!

Nice choice for the restaurant ( Sobhy Kaber) is so famous, the tail beef is called in Egyptian language ( Akawi) 😉😉🔥😍 enjoy
Yes, it said that on the menu and I said it in the video (or tried to). I've been to Sobhy Kaber before to try hamam, but not in a long time, so it was great to go back.
Meal looks good Gigi! Thanks for sharing. 👍
It was really good! This whole meal was luxurious 👸😅

You have some very useful videos for a person that will go and live in Egypt. Do you know what would be the best way to find month stay furnished apartments for rent in New Cairo area ? I’ve looked some on Airbnb but the prices seems very overpriced with prices around $800-1k around the New Cairo area. I know it varies depending on which area in New Cairo but still it feels like they want to charge a premium to tourists.
Ach, to be honest, renting is just really expensive here, for what you get in return. I know in places like Argentina or all over Asia you can get some really beautiful, modern places for a really great price, but not so in Egypt. New Cairo is also a "rich" area so things are going to be more costly there. Renting here is just a pain in the ass. Unless you are committing to a year rental contract and furnishing the place yourself, most places are not going to be so cheap.
So honestly, Airbnb really is your best bet if you want a furnished apartment with a contract that isn't extremely long. You can check on sites like Olx for rentals, and FB groups as well, but I don't know how much luck you will have on those sites either. It is pretty expensive when comparing the quality you receive. Or look in different areas and not New Cairo, which is a satellite city and has lots of compounds and yeah, is just a generally richer neighborhood far away from real Cairo
Hello again. Is Sobhy Kaber a place to book, do you think, or is it OK to just turn up? It always looks so busy.
Haha, yeah it is a very popular spot. But if it's not a holiday, I don't think you should have a problem getting a table, especially if you do not have a large group. It's busier at nights and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. But it's a large restaurant with many tables.
whatz up red, i see ur walking and talking like an egyptian now.
11:02 😂 flavor heaven 😋
🤣 true story
Like before even watching 😀
Can you do a video on tipping ? When I was there couple of months ago I was tipping like crazy 😂
Lol, thanks.
You know, it's so hard to know what to do about tipping in Egypt. I haven't made a video about it yet, though I have though about it. But I think it's hard to know what to say in the video. There are too many scenarios and different circumstances that apply to the situation. People booking tours with luxury tour companies and agencies should be tipping a lot more to all the staff for all the service they receive. People that book mid-range tours and stay at mid-range hotels will be tipping something different. And budget tours and accommodations have different tipping expectations as well, of course. There are tour guides you can pay $30 a day for. Of course the tip to them is going to be less. But for a more expensive guide, they might expect $30 as a tip! So when talking about tours, there's no easy answer.
Then there are daily activities and local life, which is what I am more familiar with (I don't take tours or stay in hotels so my knowledge is limited in that above arena).
As an American, I feel bad when I don't tip often and perhaps a good amount. By a "good amount" I don't mean tons of money, just more than what I see my Egyptian boyfriend or friends tipping. I will tell you what I see Egyptians tipping (and what they tell me to do): For an Uber, they round up. If it's 53 EGP, they tip 55. If it's 54, they tip 55. Some will tip 60 if it is 54, but that is really usually all they leave.
At restaurants, especially if local and not fancy, they pay the exact amount on the bill. Maybe they round up like with the Uber. If it is a nice restaurant, they might leave more, it depends on what they thought about the service.
For delivery (like food for example), they also usually round up, so if the food is 86 they give them 90. One friend told me, if you want to be generous, you can give them 95. I usually do this though, as I feel bad tipping so little. Tipping 10 EGP is still not that much.
I also think many Egyptians working (especially in touristic locations) kind of expect a tip from us foreigners, but they don't necessarily from other Egyptians. I dunno though, maybe that's just in my head. Anyway, yeah it's hard to know when and what to tip, but bottom line, Egyptians I know don't tip much, but if you can afford it, why not, it makes them happy.
@@Gventures I appreciate the perspective! Will be handy when I go back there soon 🙂
Thats a lot of food for one person. Looks delicious though. Did you find out what the flaming food was? If you mentioned it i missed it.
Lol yeah it was, but I had leftovers and took them home, so really 2 meals for that price. I didn't find out what the flaming food was, I got distracted and forgot to ask 😅 I wish I would have remembered
@@Gventures Maybe a followup video down the line of the same restaurant. I'm really curious about that food. That was a lot of fire. Lol!
@@charlieellis5334 Lol. Okay, I like that suggestion. They have a lot of good food here, everything is delicious.
Looks delicious, we have ox tail n kangaroo tail stew, meat is very tasty n tender when cooked slowly as they obviously do. What suburb is this restaurant in? Do they 'doggy' bags? That's alot of food!
Yes they will give you take away boxes, I brought my food home, there was no way to finish it all and I wasn't about to leave it behind either. Never had kangaroo stew but I did have a kangaroo kebab in Sydney that was actually very tasty.
Here's the link to the location if you want to go:

I saw you today 🥰 in downtown
Ahaha ah yeah, I was walking around filming for an upcoming video 😎
That's called oxtail back here at home. Prominent in West African and Caribbean cuisine
Yes lots of people commented that, I heard it was popular in the south more so than the north. Never had it back home, but I can say it's delicious here!
12 bucks!? That's a bit breaking the bank ! But what the hell as long as you enjoyed it 🙌🤣🤣🤣🙌
Lol yes I know, definitely more expensive than other spots I normally eat at, but SO good and definitely worth it 😄 Plus it was so much food, I had leftovers, so really it was 2 meals I got for that price 😅
😎👍
We have ox tail in the States in the Carribean restaurants but they don't look that great .
I wanna meet you dear if you ever visit Nasr city 🎉
She would be easy to spoth wit that hair.
Beef tail : akkawi in Egyptian slang❤
🎉🎉
🎉🎉
Glad you had some good tucker as the Aussies say .. when you gave the guy the thumbs up it made me wonder have you ever made a gesture that you think is normal but in a foreign country its not a good sign 😵
Lol yes I have 🤣
Bon appetit
Lov ox-tail…
They call it Ox Tails in the states. Can’t believe that feast was only 11 bucks
Yeah, Caribbean! Egypt is cheap for most tourists traveling here with foreign, stronger currencies
1 USD = 49.7 EGP as of today in black market. It is inevitable for the Egyptian government to at least partially float the EGP from the spurious 31 EGP per USD exchange rate. This means Prices will go up again soon!
Yeah it's being spoken about quite publicly. Nothing to do but continue living and see what happens in the future
😋😋
We have customized tour with zenith how is nile cruise m/s mrs renaissance and Swiss nile inn cairo any idea? In giza we have atlantis pyramids inn New?ok? Do we take local sim there or do international roaming from here Vi?
I would get a local SIM card. They are inexpensive and Vodaphone or Orange have decent connection, much better than some international package from your home carrier.
I don't know anything about tour companies or agencies, I am sorry to say. I don't take tours so my knowledge is very limited on that.
@@Gventures ok situation now pl egypt

Love the food over there, Pigeon is good, Did I ask you if you have tried Camel? that is excellent, didn't care for the Heart or Liver but camel meat is good, Why does their food always taste better than our crap here LOL. In Tokyo I made the mistake of eating Horse at a Sushi place, I thought is was a cut of sushi, turned out to be raw Horse meat, then I saw another one that looked like cooked Sushi, well turned out to be Horse meat again and RAW ugh! just with an egg on top, I tried Fugu (Blow Fish) Twice and lived! in Jerusalem I had some good Shawarma, damn good, I forgot to put away my Military ID around my neck and the guy was telling his Brother in Arabic that I was a Jundi, that spooked me. see ya.
I have had camel, and made a video about it too

Staying fit in Egypt must be so difficult
Hahaha
If you had only one choice between Sobhy and Dahan, which one of them would you recommend?
Hmmm....probably Sobhy. Although Dahan is closer to me and has a much wider selection of dishes, I do think everything at Sobhy Kaber is just better. The salad and tahina at El Dahan aren't as good as they are at Sobhy. The sambousas are better at Sobhy. Probably everything is just better at Sobhy. But if you want more of a variety, el Dahan is the better choice, and their food is obviously delicious too. I just don't go to Sobhy that often and it's been a while since I had such a good salad and tahina, even though it is served all the time with food, it was elevated at Sobhy.
@@Gventures yesterday i went to Dahan for a good mixed grill with molochiya ,same today at Sobhy Kader (both 1st time visit because of You). The meat was better at Dahan but the salad, side dishes, oven bread overwhelming at Sobhy. Lightening and overall vibe/comfort better at Dahan. Both worth to visit again.
@@carstensanonym7527 Haha, awesome man! So glad to hear you enjoyed both! 😁😎
I had a motorcycle accident last year and was in a hospital next to this restaurant
When I woke up after the operation, my wife brought me food from this restaurant
I went back into the coma again
It was very tasty but not suitable for a sick person🤣
Oh my God. Glad you are okay!
Yes their food is very rich and tasty, but perhaps not for someone who was just in an accident and in the hospital. May you always be protected, safe and and in good health! 🙏
We will visit cairo from 16 to 26 how is the situation protests latest update?
It's calm here, no protests at all. Great weather is waiting for you though.
Uploading an update on that situation here on the 17th, although by that time you will already be here. The situation is totally fine and normal. No more protests have happened since the last video I made about it in October
what are all this noise? are those people dinning or fighting?
Fighting. There was a huge food fight around me and I just didn't film it 🤣 Joking. Of course it was people eating man. The restaurant was full of people eating and having conversations and enjoying themselves.
i guess u,ll eat anything as long as it does not move.
I love trying new foods. This was so delicious
plastic spoon? it is a no go. May be food delivery is a good idea...

Can you not suggest any other food for us Hindus cow is sacred and we do not eat beef in india .Is there nothing else except cows pigeons and crocodiles
I have tons of videos about the food here, go to my channel page, click on the Egyptian Cuisine and Food Playlist, and you will see all the options for food, plenty of other foods. I don't know why you said "Is there nothing else except cows, pigeons and crocodiles" but I don't like your tone
Many restaurants offer dishes for fasting Christians who also abstain from meat during their fast. You will most likely encounter various falafel, beans, and Koshari restaurants. Many burger and pizza places offer specialized vegetarian menus for fasting Christians. Cheers!
@@attyaahmed5010 Good answer, thanks Ahmed. I am currently working on a Vegan and vegetarian video which will show a whole array of different dishes in Egypt that do not have meat or some dairy. I have been to India so I know they do not eat beef, I just don't like the way the question was phrased
How to avoid scams and pickpockets
They don't have pickpockets here, at least I have never encountered one here. The situation in regards to thieves is very safe in Egypt. There are plenty of scams and people trying to charge you more, but that is pretty typical in many parts of the world. The best way to avoid scams is say No to someone offering something if you do not want it, don't feel pressured to buy anything or agree to anything you don't want. When shopping in markets, go to a few shops and ask the price for the exact same item or similar item, then you will get a better idea of what you should be paying. Don't forget to negotiate each time as well. Take Ubers and not the white taxis, Uber will give you a fair price and it is shown on the app. And if taking tours, find tour companies with good reviews online
This dish is delicious, but there are new dishes for you that are more delicious than this dish, and also great restaurants that you should try. Is it possible for us to become friends?
