      Sebastien J aikido is not a competitive martial arts only way aikido would work in a real fight is if the aikido practitioner has other skill set meaning like boxing muay thai etc it could work but it is totally depending on the person

      It's not meant for that.
      But from experience, it's extremely effective in combat, but not in one on one fist fighting.
      When I was in the military we did bayonet drills with these foam thingies.
      Everyone asks, "Whose going to just run at you telegraphing their punch so you can flip them."
      Anyone charging you with a pointy weapon in real combat. You know they have to stab. You know they're aiming for the body or face, and.....over they go.

    • @horse24draws9
      @horse24draws9 4 года назад +1

      Sebastien J aikido is not a competition it’s self defensive. If someone’s standing 5 metres away there’s no need to use it because you’re not being attacked

    • @NotEvenOverThere
      @NotEvenOverThere 2 года назад

      It’s more choreography in this video but the principles are similar to judo, you just redirect the force. So if someone is running at you you’re basically just stepping out the way and letting their momentum do the work. I don’t think they’re going to just go flying like this video wants you to believe but it’s more the principle with some martial arts than the actual moves themselves.
      Think of it like an uchi mata from judo, a head and throw or just an arm throw from wrestling, where you can be forceful but you get better leverage using their momentum for the throw. The only difference is you gain that momentum in judo and wrestling by breaking their posture, I’ve never done aikido but I know if someone is off balance they’re at your mercy.

    • @NotEvenOverThere
      @NotEvenOverThere 2 года назад

      It’s only effective if you have the mind to use it, I don’t think these guys have ever used it in a real fight though but who knows right?

    I read somewhere that Aikido was originally intended in the 14th century to disarm sword weilding samurai using only one's hands. If I'm not mistaken, the Japanese government outlawed Samurais carrying swords in the late 19th century. Morihei Ueshiba founded modern Aikido sometime in the early 20th century and that's what it's known as today.

    Aikido is the ultimate fighting art, because of its history, its origin, and its philosophy, yet its essence is being lost more and more every day due to the complacency of its teaching. Unfortunately it is necessary to please the greatest number of people and this to the detriment of the intrinsic depth of the art, this is now felt in the increasing loss of its martial legitimacy, whereas at the origin it is derived from the greatest warfare techniques that are
    There are still some great Sensei who continue to perpetuate the essence of our Art.
    Shirakawa Ryuji shihan is a perfect example of this.

      Id wanna be that guy, so imma try be respectful, but aikido ain't shit no more. the techniques they teach are slightly extracted and they don't have live sparring which a martial art must have. Its most likely because martial arts have evolved over the years and hav added several parts (grapping, striking) in order to keep it effective.

      @@BenBorisenko I (184cm,68kg,bodybuilder) guess this "tsujo" was inflicted on me when I was lessoned in March in front of a supermarket. There was a brawl concerning a trolley with an about 40 year old woman with thick ugly specs. Since she only was 150 cm, she was an easy push and I pressed her 2 meters back with my hands on her shoulders. Then she enclosed my right wrist, a short aching,she went aside and I tumbled to the ground in my full black leathers. On the ground, I realised a sprain in my right arm making it useless. The specs lady saw my surprise and stretched from right to left over my chest, snatching for my left arm poising it in an awkward and helpless position I never saw before. When I flushed she said:"Guess you never exspected me to know the Judo, sweetface. But I doubt now whether it is allowed to apply Aikidos in public.

      What most people never ever get is that this forms you see in all of those Aikido demos are like practicing writing just parts of a letter while learning how to write. After you learned the parts of the letters(the Aikido forms) you learn how to put them together to words. At that point you're far away from writing whole texts and more far away from writing free texts - just like in Aikido at that point you're far away from real "fight" situation, After a while, when you learned the forms and how to avoid being injured you can slowly begin practicing randori. And for being a very good Aikidoka more important then every form is the ability to being aware, awareness, being calm and free of fears in every situation no matter what. This is the inner work you got to do. The outside form is nothing without that. Just like a writer although he knows all the words and all the letters will never be able to write accurate to a situation if his inner mind is not developed properly.
      So, to sum it up. This "outer" forms are NOT that stuff a Aikidoka does when attacked in real situations. The inner attitude to avoid violence, inner serenity, strong will, lack of fear and full awareness of what is happening around you....THAT is 90% what Aikido is. The rest is just the outer form - a physical expression of this inner attitude. And this physical expression is always adapted to every real situation. Just as in a demo-sitation you see it adapted to a demo situation...in training to training situation and in a real fight it would be completely different: Adapted to a real fight situation!

    The performance is beautiful yeah,but on the street and compared to other martial/fighting arts, aikido is like giving an alcoholic a vodka shot and expecting not to drink it,which makes it kinda useless in real fighting situations

      How do we define martial practice? There are people saying aikido was not a martial art, as it is not competitive, there are no belts and no contests, kicks and punches are not the central element. Sadly there are idiots around, showing in FAKE performances how they can make opponents go down just by waving their hands at them or concentrating really hard. They claim this was aikido in its highest form, saying this was what Morihei Ueshiba ment by "the way of harmonious spirit". This is where the bad reputation comes from. The true idea is: Do not run into a combat situation like a mindless brute, think of the reasons your opponent fights for and try find a common ground. If your opponent is not interested in a discussion, you can still fight.
      Many techniques in aikido look like dancing in training with the partner (NOT opponent in this case!). Aikido provides you with a variety of defence techniques for the head and upper body. Ground combat and attack is not in focus in aikido, so it is a bad idea to think "i can pick any fight because i am proficient in aikido".
      When training, the aim is to practice the techniques and the partner will fall in an elegant way to prevent injury. In a real-life-fight, the opponent does not know what technique will be used to counter an attack, he will most likely not fall in a safe way and harm himself badly. Forcefully trying to get out of a well-set leverage, lock or pin will result in broken bones, broken joints, strain trauma or rupture of muscle fiber.
      The aikido defense techniques are about taking the partners/opponents center of mass out of his footprint and using the resulting instability. Attackers without martial arts background (and those who think they are way above low-level-dancing-class-bullshido) tend to overextend their actions. "the attack will hit, put all body mass behind it to make it count. Easy win..." The greater the overextend is, the better the aikido techniques are working. Professional fighters (mma for example) know this, and this is the reason why they always aim to keep the overextend low to non-existent. This is a scenario where aikido alone will never secure a victory.
      So aikido is not the universal solution to any situation, it has very practial uses as well as shortcomings, but I dare to say that it definitely is a form of martial arts.
      For real life situations there is one central rule: No matter how proficient you are in any martial art(s), you can never know what an opponent is really capable of:
      If from a fight you run away,
      you live to see another day.
