Pretty nice result! We get about 3 cords of wood delivered each year, and last year I noticed the load was mostly hardwood. It’s usually a mix of cedar and fir. No clue what hardwood it is but given that it’s western Canada, I’d put money on maple of some sort.
Gonna give it a go of cleaning and dimensioning some up, see what I get!

Red solo cup, stopping the air!
Great video, thanks for posting - love the commentary, totally not too much chatter, great to hear your thought process as you work.

Nice work. I get good results free handing through the table saw. Usually five cuts get four square(ish) corners. If I want perfection, I do what you did in the planer. It's also nice to find pieces of firewood with one very flat side to start from. I've gone the hand plane route to get one flat side for a starting point but found eyeballing at the table saw works really well. Ya just gotta be careful!

This is exactly what I want to to this winter. I don't have a large planer, only an electric hand planer + a flattening jig thingy for my router.

You get to do this yet?

Still not done. Nearly no shop time last 11 months. But the wood didn't run away. So maybe this winter.

That is a 13" Surface planer (also known as a "lunchbox" planer) It has 3 blades that cut at the top of the wood piece to make it perfectly parallel to the bottom of the piece.

Dude! Never use gloves with a rotating blade: fabric catching in the blade = your hand being pulled towards the blade, is no good!

Wow good call-thank you! Is there any type you would you recommend?
I've always found gloves offer a better grip so I don't inadvertently slip. Leather, biker gloves and standard work gloves I've tried, always make me uncomfortable that either my hands or the workpiece will slip as well.
Let me know if you have any you particularly like! Thanks again!

Thank you for your feedback! Yeah just getting into this and was suggested that long format with plenty of talking was the way to go. But I agree with you-I'd rather be quick clear and consice! Thanks for watching anyway!
