- The Ranger gets a redesign from Ford for 2024. On the outside of the SXT you will discover 17in alloy wheels, LED headlights and flat black accents. On the inside you will be greeted by a cloth interior and 10in infotainment screen. Under the hood is a 2.3L turbocharged inline-4 that is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2024 Ford Ranger STX the BEST new midsize truck under $35k?

I remember when the ford ranger was 15000 dollars
Those were the days
And min. wage was $7.50 an hour. Gas was $1.50 a gallon.
I bought a 2008 basic Ranger for 11k. New.

That's not a ball polisher. It's an emergency Twinkie holster. Half the Twinkie sticks out for easy access on the fly.
Solid truck. Ranger has always been a sturdy rig and I expect this to be just the same. I really love the Colorado but I would still have to trust the Ford brand more. This thing can haul all the Twinkies and Yoo-Hoo that you need for years to come. ☮️💙
Good review Joe. Entenmanns 1st store was in my home town. Bay Shore NY. When I was a small kid maybe 3 or 4; Mrs. Entenmann would see me looking at the Eclairs when my mother was in the store. She would give me one. The Crumb Coffee cake was always a favorite. Last time I bought one up there they were .69 cents. Keep them coming Joe.😎

I'd buy one of these over an entry level sedan. Even if you don't need to tow, pick up trucks are very practical.

I love infotainment and touch screen as well for 35K below for this Ford Ranger! Most of all you are a good talker and i love way you are!
I'd go with a Nissan Frontier if I was looking for a midsize truck, mostly because of its bulletproof naturally aspirated V6.
And you can get one with an actually usable bed
Have you seen a frontier? Looks like a ford again, ford is ahead and Nissan is good in copying from other companies

What have we let happen lol. $35k a few years ago was a loaded 4 door F 150.
I bought my last ranger for $600 bucks and it did the same thing this one does with a club cab.
And it go better MPG!

This is a quality truck from Ford, especially for the price. It can serve as a work truck and haul the family on trips, too. Plus that gorgeous blue! Great job, Ford!

Many things are expensive still and if anyone needs a truck but doesn’t want to break the bank the ranger isn’t bad. It does everything you need it to do

Not everything... they could save money by making a standard cab version and a 6 foot+ bed. Seems they designed it more for people who really need a car, but want a truck.
35K breaks the bank for most.
Joe - For bang for the buck catagory I don't think you can touch this with any other brand, the GM or other brand midsized pickups are mostly in the $43,000 and ^ up territory and this is a nice looking pickup and seems like it performs well and 25mpg highway is pretty good. Sure there are nicer midsized pickups like a Ranger Lariat or a GMC AT4 that are really nice looking but the prices start to really go up. Great review Joe and Steven is also doing a great job with the camera.

With cost is mind, I might look at the STX but would like to have the optional side steps and reverse sensors. Currently have a 20 XLT with about 60k miles and it has been a good truck so far.
As nice as it may be ,it's still overpriced a bit, if Ford wants to attract attention price point wise , they should try $30,999, they'd sell volumes and make it up that way.
I purchased my New 1995 Ford Ranger XLT for $9,999. No kidding. It had air conditions too. I got a discount for being a college grad and being a veteran. I'm still driving it. Never had a problem.

@@RaitisRides I don't think you truly believe me. The horizontal slot just below the infotainment screen has a tiny French fries logo. Once you get into one again, look for it. Believe me, it is there. This is why I want one. For the working man and the snacking man too.

Not a bad truck, but for the money I'd go with the frontier
The best part about ford trucks is the optional rear diff locks on all trims unlike other brands which forces you to buy upper trims just to get it.
I would definitely want it to be 4x4, have a trailer break controller, hitch, and bed liner but I love that Ford offers a decent amount of standard things here (engine, transmission, led headlights, screens, etc..). I hate it when manufacturers pretend things like LCD screens are expensive.... they aren't.
My truck didn't come with a ball polisher as standard. Luckily, I found one in town later that day.

Build one XLT 2.3L 4x4 due to me living in the northeast WITH the options I need ended up being $8000 cheaper than the NEW Tacoma TRD sport I built. Still too much either way. IMO, a mid trim small truck 4x4 with some options shouldn’t NOT be over $32,000. Base model 2WD not over $22,000. Just saying.
I’d gladly accept a smaller screen and traditional gauges (which I prefer), to get proximity key, push button start, power drivers seat, rear parking sensors and rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and dual zone auto climate control. I really like the fact that it has a traditional gear shift. Hope, it has wireless CarPlay too.

Love that blue. We have 2 Mavericks in the family fleet, got rid of a Ram 1500 because it was bigger than we needed. So far so good.

It will be interesting to see what Honda does with the Ridgeline.
If I wanted a midsize truck now or something with an awesome value then Nissan Frontier. But if you’re willing to be a bit more patient then wait until the 2.7L V6 Rangers hit Ford dealers sometime this summer. As long as I can get a V6 and are not forced to have a turbo 4 like the GM twins and the new Tacoma.
The XL STX with 4x4, tow package and spray in bed liner is the perfect midsize! With those options it's still under 40k.

This is a great looking truck. I prefer this to Tacoma. And the price. You can not argue with that if the dealers don't mark it up.
I really like it Blue is my Favorite Shade . My brother has the older Version like they used in Baywatch same shade . I have driven a Truck for about 5 mins that was it to high off the ground I prefer a car any day but that truck is not that high .

But if you add another 5K, then you get 4X4.
And by then, you might just add another $2,500K and get a base F-150 w/4X4.
If this truck was priced @ $35K w/4X4, it would get a maybe from me.
But on the other hand..
It has the turbo 2.3.
And I had experience with the 2.3, both good and bad.
I had a 2019 Ford Mustang Eco-boost.
A blast to drive, performance was top notch with 0-60 times at about 5.8 seconds.
310 hp, with 350 lbs of torque.
In the ranger, same engine just de-tuned.
The bad with the engine was purge valve, (replaced 2X), both head and valve cover gaskets (replaced 2X as well) and oil cooler lines replaced.
All before the engine had 60K in it.
So that’s what has always made me consider other vehicles when replacing my Mustang because of the engine issues and 122 MPH top speed.
I eventually went with and live my new ‘24 Forester.
I would strongly consider to anyone before making a ford purchase with the Eco-2.3 engine to do your research and maybe look elsewhere.

I bought a one year old Ram 1500 Laramie with 5K miles in 2018 for 35K. My, how vehicle prices have gotten out of control.
Paid 36k for my 23 XLT FX4 last year

The Ranger in any trim has an expiration date in the USDM compliments of the Ford Maverick. The blatant lack of engine or hybrid options in the U.S. didn’t help the Ranger’s cause either. So if Ford doesn’t care enough about the Ranger to offer meaningful upgrades in the U.S. (besides the insanely dealer marked up Ranger Raptor) why should those midsize truck shopping buy it at any price … 🤷🏽

We got a lot of winter where I'm living.
Nice truck but... There's a lot of competition. I'm usually a Ford fan but think that GM has it beat on design and had got really good reviews so far. I don't like to be the first to adopt a new design until a year or two pass and they get the bugs worked out. Ranger STX looks good on outside but inside says budget. Even at 35K its is a lot of money to laydown on a mid size truck with a 4 banger.
The midsize truck is fierce!
I'm curious to see how bad of a beating that powertrain can take.
It's a carry over engine so pretty bulletproof at this point. The design is about 10 years old. Unlike the untested taco 4 banger
Its more for a work truck, don't have to worry just throw you tools in the back or boxes and go. If it gets dents or scratches its ok its..

35k for a barebones mini truck with no power or features or technology. Full of plastic like you would find on a 99¢ toothbrush from the dollar store. You could buy a 15 year old truck and it will be better in every regard.

But it last weekend. XLT, love it. Looked at everyone else. Decided to go ranger, for the 7500 towing, the 2.3l ecoboost has been reliable. Got out the door at 38k, love it and sorry but the Tacoma needs a bigger cab this fits my 3 kids just fine. This has also been out in Australia a few years and good reliability from them. Highly recommend!

Never buy new. You can literally buy a 2019 F150 for half this price.
A good vehicle. Super ugly badge, i am glad in future versions they are flattening the badge. So tacky. If the Ranger could add a mild hybrid it would give it more torque and better mileage. Hard to believe that 35k gets you a modest midsize truck.
