I like the Sportage update. I would test drive if and when I am buying. My in-laws bought a 2019 new and haven't had one issue on 3 years. I wouldn't buy a Kia for off-road!!! Very nice that the Sportage has a 8 speed and not a CVT.

I remember making fun of Kia's back in the day then after my wife totaled our newer Escape because of suicidal moose, we needed something fast for appointments and general living. We bought a used Kia Sedona and it has been a great vehicle that has had a VERY hard life. I would totally buy another kia without questioning it. The whole “that’s a Kia??” Comments need to stop. Kia has proven itself time and again. And the design, engineering, reliability etc. have surpassed the Japanese cars and the German in many categories. Time to give it credit where it’s due.

This is an interesting redesign. There is a lot to like, but I have a few criticisms and concerns. 1. Longevity. Kia has had issues with longevity, especially with engines. Is this new Sportage better in that regard? We won't know for awhile. 2. I agree, there needs to be a Kia Sportage X-Pro Prestige HYBRID. 3. A little more ground clearance and underbody protection would be nice. 4. Dealer network. Kia/Hyundai's dealer network is not the best. There are only 3 dealers with 150 miles of me, and none of them has a particularly good reputation. 5. Infotainment and HVAC controls are wonky. 6. Yes, the upper end models are pricey. Things I like: 1. I actually like the design. 2. Full size spare on the X-Pro Prestige. 3. Conventional AWD driveline and conventional automatic transmission. 4. Appears to be spacious and comfortable.
I miss my 2012 Kia Sportage. Upgraded to a Subaru Crosstrek (as a Subaru fanboi). My real world driving experience says the Sportage AWD was just as capable as the Subaru. KIA doesn't make their own AWD they contract to Magna Powertrain "off the shelf" unit. With the 4x4 lock I found it worked better than X-Mode in snow and ice.
@@jerrymyahzcat You got that right. It deactivates over 40 km/h and you can't enable it again until you drive under 20. The last thing I want in a low traction situation is to fiddle with buttons between the seats.
Good; the other half of the TFL/Redline mash-up! I love the exterior looks . . . except for the 'Snidley Whiplash' silver accents on the rear bumper. Honestly, if you can get a base-ish Hybrid and get it for around 30k, depending upon what you have to give up for that price, Kia may have created one of the best deals in the market.
Did KIA mention if the Sportage Hybrid has a "Camping Mode" where the climate control will run continuously with the gas engine turning on occasionally to bring up the hybrid battery charge level. (This is a critical aspect of the "Hotel Prius" movement.
I have a 2024 x pro prestige it has all the things you wanted or didn’t want to say it had and xpro does have a higher clearance. Fair review since you only gave what you wanted to. Hung up on the it’s a Kia grow up guys
Seems like Kia is testing the waters with this XPro. Honestly if Kia put more effort into the XPro (like more ground clearance, recovery points, front skid plate) it might be able to compete. But if they are going to play it safe with just tires in future models, the XPro won't catch consumers attention in the softroader segment.
I have this vehicle from a rental agency in Burlington, VT and it is going back to the agency. It is completely unacceptable in snow. The rental version lacks a way to activate AWD. Horrendous traction control software cannot apparently be disabled. Every decision I make as a seasoned New England driver gets overridden by poorly designed software, so one spends more effort fighting the drivetrain than dealing with snow and ice. I would never recommend this vehicle for anything other than freeway driving under excellent conditions in southern states. It is very dangerous in snow and ice, fishtails where it should’t, drops from one wheel drive to zero wheel drive on uphills, and behaves poorly across the board as a winter driver… think sledding rather than driving. Very poor software design and a poorly written owner’s manual make this a dangerous choice in winter conditions - especially for a rental vehicle.

We just picked up the plug in hybrid sportage, comes with AWD, I’m curious if it has the same clearance and how some all terrain tires will affect the mpg
I love the design, coming from a v6 owner and towing regularly an atv, I am a little worried with that engine performance, I wish it was offered with a turbo or v6
Not that its a replacement for torque, but these have an 8 speed transmission, which I'm sure helps. The sportage hybrid has 258 lbft torque I believe...
The annoying thing is that the Canadian version Sportage has the dirt/sand/mud options in the drive modes. It is simple programing. Hopefully Kia updates the US versions,
The time has come and KIA is more off-road capable than Subaru. Question of faith or not, but Subaru should continue to ignore their customers and thus bring themselves into oblivion. I test drove the Sportage and CX-50 recently. Both great options inside and out, however every KIA dealership near me (about 5-6 of them) was marking up the Sportage an insane amount, like $3000-8000 on top of MSRP. Whereas there were multiple Mazda dealerships selling the CX-50 at MSRP. This difference alone makes the CX-50 such a better value.
