  • The battle of the carbon super shoes is on! ASICS METASPEED EDGE+ vs NIKE ZOOMX VAPORFLY NECT% 2: there can be only one winner!
[Well, you'd think so but it's actually not quite as simple as that.]
    \\key details
    Price - EDGE+ $250/£225, NEXT% 2 $250/£225
Availability - Both available to buy now
    Weight - EDGE+ (size 10) 231 g, NEXT% 2 (size 10.5) 228 g
    Drop - EDGE+: 8 mm (heel: 33 mm / forefoot 25 mm), NEXT% 2: 8 mm (heel: 40 mm / forefoot: 32 mm)
    \\key tech - EDGE+
FF BLAST™ TURBO foam, Jacquard mesh upper, more foam between the carbon plate and foot, wider midsection
    \\key tech - NEXT% 2
Nike ZoomX foam, redesigned upper, reinforced forefoot, wider toe
    \\fit
Step-in comfort is almost identical with the EDGE+ being ever so slightly more comfortable. The NEXT% 2 feels more secure under the lace cage thanks to the padded tongue
    \\midsole
Both shoes have full-size carbon plates but the Nike has more foam underfoot and feels bouncier - better for preserving the legs.
Your foot sits closer to the ground in the EDGE+ which is better for stability and agility. There is more foam between the carbon plate and your foot which makes them super comfortable to run in without losing control.
    \\toe spring
Both shoes have a similarly aggressive toe spring - the angle is almost identical.
    \\flexibility
Both shoes feature a carbon plate and are more rigid than your average running trainers. The NEXT% 2 is ever so slightly more flexible although you won’t feel too much of it as you run.
    \
    unning experience
Edge+ is more agile and responsive due to lower stack height, more control, stable but fast. Upper is more comfortable than Edge+. Better ground contact. Grip is sublime.
Next% 2 is bouncier and fast, like a wild horse. Harder to control but conserves your legs better. Subtle updates from the NEXT% but it feels more comfortable thanks to reengineered upper and wider forefoot.

Great information, most are reviewing the sky plus, so having first hand experience with the Edge plus is excellent. No shops nearby have the Edge Plus, so I can't try it out, but from your and the few other reviews - I do expect that the Edge Plus is a better fit for me, than the sky plus or Vaporfly 2.

Thank you! I was given the EDGE+ initially by ASICS instead of the SKY+ like many others and I wasn't sure why but now that I also have the SKY+, I must say I prefer the EDGE+ because it's different from other high stack running shoes. Although there is less foam underfoot, the shoes still help you move forward quite fast.

Golden and important information about the ride of edge + because for your words about performance it seems me other great and underrated shoe: TC. The control and security is the same in midsole as you describe on Edge + but I suspect for your words that the upper on Edge + is more secure than on TC. I'm a Vaporfly user for years but for your videos perhaps my preferences changes on HM. On Marathon I still use Vapor for save my legs and because Vapor dissapear on your foots and the ride with these for the plate form and rocker inclination have the stride squishy and easy. Seems that Edge is a faster shoe, a directe rival of Takumi Sen 8 on a short distances. Great job👏👏👏👏
Perhaps in both new asics shoes the FF Turbo is firmer than in the first iterations?

Thank you for the excellent comment! The FF Turbo is indeed firmer but despite the reduced stack height, it feels agile and fast. Again, the EDGE+ might not be the best choice for marathon distances but for HM, it's definitely one of the best options right now. 🙌

FYI, the Edge+ has a stack height of 31-39 mm, so just 1 mm less than the VF2. 25-33 is the thickness of the midsole only. So the two shoe have nearly the same amount of foam.

So asics didnt count the insole and outsole when measuring the stack hight and in fact, they both maximum stack hight shoes(39mm or 39.5mm in the heel)

Picked up the Edge+ for the 8mm drop after having enjoyed the original Sky, but had to retire it after having developed lower leg irritation with the lower drop. But though the Edge+ fits great, and runs smooth, I find none of the super shoe pop that I've experienced in the Sky, VF2, or even the Saucony Endorphin Pro. I think I'll be using the Edge+ for workouts and long runs but not inspired to race in it over VF2 or Sky. Definitely not for HM or full

Hey, thanks for the comment!! I find the EDGE+ perfect for distances up to a HM, whether it's a tempo run or a race, but I appreciate we all run differently and what fits my running style might not fit yours. For the record, I wouldn't recommend the EDGE+ for full marathons either 🙌

Hi...When you say the edge+ help you run fast, what sort of pace are you talking about please

      @pacemaxpro  2 года назад

Hey, well, I just ran the ASICS London 10K in the EDGE+ and my official time was 40:52, that's a good time for me. I probably could have gone under 40 mins, was it not for the heat.

The Vaporfly should have a narrower fit than the edge plus, but since you’ve gone up half a size for Vaporfly, the width should’ve been looser.

    • @pacemaxpro

I tried the size 10 but Vaporfly 2 it wasn't long enough. I kinda between 10-10.5 and oftentimes end up choosing the wrong size because of this. A good example id the Alphafly NEXT% 2: I have a size 10 of those and they fit perfectly. 🤷

@@pacemaxpro that’s odd. I wear my Alphafly and Vaporfly 1 & 2 the same size.

      My shoe rotation atm is:

      - tempo: Nike Streakfly/ASICS EDGE+
      - interval: Saucony Speed 3
      - sprint/threshold: Nike Vaporfly 2
      - race: Nike Alphafly 2
