- It is annoying to tie, and hard to cast, but the results have been excellent for me over the last 5-6 years for my biggest flathead catfish!

I'm just curious with this setup, wouldn't a three-way swivel work instead of tying both lines to the same swivel loop?
i use broke foam bobbers that i find while fishing, drill out the center, and re-rig them for suspending baits for catfish, free bobbers and doing your part for the environment!
Solid plan dude! Hope the fish are treating you well! Thank you for watching!
I'm glad you cleand your lens
hendo gaming haha it gets kinda gross while fishing
Ty again for tips and tricks! You da man!
Glad they help!
Rod looks outstanding with the valiant eagle baitcaster on it. So far so good with this rod. Caught a 4.5 pounder the other day and an extremely mean pike as well.
Glad to hear it man
Thanks for doing this video. I'll have to try this sometime.
Jt Donovan I hope it works for you!
Great idea! A lot of times I'll put on a fresh gill, throw it out and it just sits there. Been thinking about leader length too. 36 in. leader seams like a lot but it would give the bait more room to roam. Great advice on the creek chubs too! Me and my little girl went to a local creek and caught a bunch. The temp dropped and they caught more fish than the gills! Keep up the good work man! Well at least keep teaching this old dog new tricks! Lol Go Cubbies!
Vonklink6741 the world is a better place when people are catching fish. Good luck out there! Game starts in 15 mins. Go Cubs!
Thanks! That cleared up a lot of some of my questions! Now I know! Kool!
Good deal man!
Nice looking rig . Does look like it will cause a mess every so often but that's fishing .going to try it this coming spring and see what it will do on these Arizona flatheads .Thanks
Bruce Tanner hope it treats you as well as it has me!
Well I am hooked on flathead fishing. But am a dumbass when it comes to rod and real fishing for flathead. Thank you for just being a regular guy talking strieght and showing the good and bad.
Its the reality of it all man. There's many trips that never make it to video haha
I will probably be using this one come June!
I appreciate the "how-to" tips.
I've always bottom fished a carolina rig for cats. I'll try the bobber thing
I usually do a little of both. The bobber is great in shallower (less than 15 feet) slower moving water. Deep fast stuff it's not nearly as effective. Hope it works for you!
Great video Spencer
Glad you enjoyed it!
Could you just use a 3 way swivel for a drop shot rig and throw a clip-on bobber above the swivel a foot or so if you don't have any big fancy slip bobbers like that?
Casual Carolina Fishing I've used a 3 way swivel but it tangles about the same and isn't as strong, except for 3 way crane swivels.
I want to see a video showing me how you tie all your different knots. If you could do that for me on King of the River Rat's 🐀 . That would be greatly appreciated Spenser.
Love it. Now I have to go fishing tonight
Carter John I will call this proof my videos have a positive influence! Good luck!
Really this is the only setup I know and was taught for Catfishing besides bottom fishing besides bottom fishing and then only thing I do differently is take the floater off but I use egg sinkers
And I don’t sink the float. It’s sits in the water perfect too
And we always fished Paylakes. But since I’ve moved to Florida I’ve gotten away from the pay to fish and it’s not as fun
Its cool that someone else uses this rig. Thanks for watching!
I use the same bobber for alligator gar love it
That's awesome man! You should send some of your gator gar pics to whisker seeker and you could win a $25 gift card. Thanks for watching man!
This is my rip rap rig on my home lake. A weedless sinker is my best friend..
Nice. Thanks for watching!
Very good
Riverbendlongbows.com thank you sir!
If you have to go ice fishing in the winter, you're way too far North! We go trout fishing in the winter here in Texas. Between November and March they stock the Guadalupe River every week with rainbow and brown trout. Last year over the winter they stocked 70,000 trout into about 3 or 4 miles of river below Canyon Lake Dam.
That's pretty cool they do that. Ice fishing is growing on me more and more every year. I'd still rather catch blues on tawakoni tho😁 thanks for watching!
@@RiverCertified - Thanks for your reply. I've got a son in East Texas that's fishing the lakes and rivers for catfish. He's having a blast taking my granddaughter out on the boat to fish. I think she's about 15 now and likes to fish. My son and I fished Lake Fork, and Caddo Lake when he was in high school. Thanks again.
I bet he's having a blast and it sounds like you are too. Good luck Fishing!
That’s a good idea just use a three way. It’s for super heavy current.
Thanks for the idea dude! I never liked the traditional 3 way swivels because they aren't nearly as strong as a crane swivel. Since I made this video I discovered 3-way crane swivels and they are tough as nails. That's what I use now. Thanks for watching!
great tip. I think I would try a 3 way crane swivel but I love the rig.
Matt Moore thanks for the tip!
Yeah, your inner teacher is coming out on this video haha!!
Zach Bauer I try to stick to what I do best!
Great minds think alike. Ever just use a dropper loop and slip the hook on?
I do more often with cutbait applications in rocky areas. Anytime I use a live bait I generally use a swivel to reduce line twist.
Thanks for sharing
Little did he know how long and cold winter would be.
That's no joke this year.
I got one for ya I fish a lot at the dam near me I finally caught a 11lber lol not much but I did what u said lmao what’s the best way if there’s a lot of rocks like ten time what u just thought when I said a lot lmk thanks man love the videos
That's awesome man. Honestly take off the bobber and just use the 3 way rig. Keep the rod tip up. You'll still lose plenty of rigs, but it's the best I've found. Goodluck!
I have a go pro but night videos are tuff alone. I have endless pics of big girls. Took a buddy the other night. Put him on a 47 pounder. He was a happy man. Nothing against the float, just I've never needed anything more than a standard rig.
Ben Krause sounds like it. I take my head lamp and wrap it on my fish finder and shine it at me with go pro pointed at me. Works decent and you probably have those already. Give it a shot. Like I said, love seeing big fish.
Let me get this straight, your bobber will be submerged under water? So, you don't use the float so much as a strike indicator, but more for keeping the baitfish off the bottom?
No, the bobber is on top of the water. Just gotta cast a few times and adjust the depth to get it right.
I'm confused..... Does the bobber come all the way up to the surface? And if so, wouldn't that be a pain to reel in with the bobber stop on there? I really want to try this, but I'm just REALLY confused.....
The bobber will come all the way to the surface. The bobber stop shouldn't make reeling it in any different. You can reel it in through the guides and onto the reel even. Then you just cast it, flip on the bait clicker, and kick back while you wait for a bite. Hope that helps! I really appreciate you watching!
Wat keeps the float from sinking with two of of weight under it
@Rivercertified could u just use a 3 way on this rig
I like it!!!👍👍👍
Billy Stinson great to hear!
Have you tried the Muddy River bobber? For what you do I think it would be perfect for you.
They make a great bobber. I'm partial to the WST eva foam ones now tho. Thanks for the recommendation tho!
Have you ever tried tying an ACTUAL drop shot rig? Then it would be impossible to tangle! Unless you need that bait to swim that leader length of line in a circle? PS: I am researching catfish bobbers and keep running into your videos haha...
I suppose you could, but I like the hook being further away from the main line. I have switched to 3-way crane swivels and that has made a big difference. Hopefully within the next month and a half I'll have some footage of using them!
Do you have any videos of you fishing with that whisker Seeker slip bobber setup
Nathan Fleming although you can't see it (because it is dark), I caught the big boy in this video on this rig. ruclips.net/video/pDFk8QUfeyw/видео.html
So I’m a little new to fishing for catfish and I bank fish mostly. How much line do you have between your bobber stop and the hook? I know some of the places I fish are around 60 feet deep and a good ways away from the bank. And I’m not sure I could cast a rig like this that far. I’ll keep watching your videos but if you have a little more info on this set up I would appreciate it.
This rig definitely works best in water less than 10 feet or so. I just cast and check to figure out depth
nice video bro.
codfishing180 thanks man!
Go cards((: love the videos man
Thanks man! Go Cubs!
Why not use a 3-way swivel to avoid the tangle?
A crane swivel is stronger is why I didn't. I've found 3 way crane swivels that I use now. Super strong.
Show us how to cast this BEAST
I'll definitely have to do that. Its more of a lob than a cast. Thanks for watching!
O’Doyle rules
Great rig i always ty my bank sinker on the bottom and use a drop loop for my hook set and i also ty and over hand not 3inchs up from the sinker if its a rocky bottom when the fish hit it no hang ups thanks
Ricky Evans thanks for the idea! What kind of knot do you use for your loop?
River Certified cant really explain it just Google it drop shop loop rig its a real good strong not i think you'll really like it thanks
Ricky Evans will do. I really appreciate it!
River Certified i fish a lot of fast water i don't like swivels
Ricky Evans I like to keep things simple normally. That would definitely simplify things.
What if you don't know the depth your fishing in how do you know where to put the bobber stop
Ok I've been fishing cats for years. I just found the Sandy coper rig I guess it's called but weirdly I've used that before long before but been a while so I'm using again and I like it better now. Mines little different maybe but works. But this your doing I've never used big weight to hit bottom bait above then a big bobber on top. So I want to see if you got more videos fishing this way. Do you need to no the exact deepth so your bobber floating on top and not understand water. Do you have the bobber alot deeper than the water so it's pulling some yea ide live tiesrn more. Thanks and have a great week. O yea I hit sub a d hit the bell want to learn more. God bless
Danny Schwab thanks for watching sir! I usually make a couple casts without bait and try to get the depth close. Once it's close I just toss it out and wait. Usually I don't use this rig in water over 10 or 15 feet. Then I would just use a Santee Cooper rig.
River Certified ok thanks sir. I'll deff try and I've been looking at those bobbers I want the light up one so bad. I just won there rod lights from a RUclipsr last night can't weight to try them. But I run a kids non profit fishing group so I don't buy me to much new stuff unless I'm gonna give it away so I buy cheaper gear. But im gonna get some of there gear soon. But thanks again God bless
Danny Schwab not a problem! Good luck sir!
So your main line and your leader line are tied to the top hole of your swivel and your sinker tied on the bottom hole of the swivel am I seeing that right?
Since I made this video, I switched these swivels. It still gets tangled sometimes, but not as bad.
amzn.to/2BgzLhM
Hope that helps! I really appreciate you watching!
@@RiverCertified Nice thanks for the link, I will have to get some to try. Always up for finding new rig setups.
Do you have any videos out their for beginners to river fishing? I've always been told it's very difficult so I've never tried
Honestly I think lakes are more difficult 😆I was planning on doing a video about how I read rivers. Not sure when it will be done, but it's in the works. Thank you for watching!
@@RiverCertified this video would be awesome. Working my way through all of your videos and they're helping a lot.
Ever fished at red rock dam?
Never😁😁😁
Lol🤪
I use the whisker seeker lighted bobber but it always tangles, any suggestions?
My casting distance is cut by two thirds with this method. Any tips?
Only 2/3 ain't bad haha. That's a major downfall of it. If you need distance just stick with the 3 way without a bobber. Thank you for watching tho!
@@RiverCertified I did catch a big blue this way near lots of rocks. I got hung up like 5 times before even getting it in because it kept trying to go in the cracks between the rocks . Luckily it was too big to get all the way in the cracks. Thanks for the vids
Why not use a 3 way swivel?
I have since made the switch, but it honestly doesn't reduce tangling much.
That’s just a santee cooper rig. And yes it works great
Jonathan Warren close, but there's a few major differences. Either way I appreciate you watching!
It's not a santee cooper rig
Definitely not
Why could you not have your sinker on a another swivel between your bobber and the swivel that has your hook your weight will be still on the bottom and your lead and hook will be suspended like your rig in your video I run this rig a lot caught a lot of blues and flatheads on this rig without the bobber
Try it man! Good luck fishing and thanks for watching!
I like turtles.
Yeah, they have their moments. I honestly feel bad catching them.
what about a three way
Yeah that's what I use now
Do you fish the cedar river I'm in Waterloo an I in get channels
Julius Lau I haven't yet but hope to next summer. I've heard it's a really good river.
Just add a 3 way swivel problem solved
Pit Dawg my problem is 3 way swivels aren't nearly as strong. Thanks for watching!
River Certified River Certified I had same comment as pit dawg you really only use two way?
I've lost channels in the 5lb range on brand new 3 ways.
What knot you use for your drop lead?
For the sinker, a surgeons loop
Wouldn't the bobber sink?
Patges1 Ruhe set the bobber stop so the sinker sits on the bottom and the bobber floats on top of the water
No need, I have them dialed in already.
Ben Krause make some videos dude. I love seeing big fish.
Why not use a 3 way barrel swivel?
Only cuz I didn't have one at the time. Its better with a 3 way swivel
How do you use a weigh float?
how do you adjust depth?
Hey man I'm in iowa what part are you in?
Balla21 I'm in central Iowa.
Going to try this tonight actually at Center street. How deep do you set the bobber stop usually? thanks
Catch Release Repeat good luck! I usually set the bobber stop just a little deeper than the depth of the water. Example would be to set it at 8.5 in 8 feet of water.
Ok thanks, I just didnt know how much extra to give it. Love your vids so keep em coming. Any advice for low low water river fishing? Its so low, i dont think ive seen it this low in awhile.
Catch Release Repeat I'll do my best to keep them coming. I'll have a new video out tomorrow afternoon. For low water I really focus on wood cover. However dams can be good at any water level. Hope you get a tank!
No need for the bobber lol. And that's not much weight. I use up to 12 ounces. And my average flathead is 35 pounds. More caught one 40 than under 30 lol
Ben Krause thanks for the pointers. The point is to suspend a bait and keep them above the bottom in reduced current, like a bullhead. Give it a shot. Might get you another 40. Thanks for watching.
@@RiverCertified you are right in many ways. The apex predator usually comes up to eat while a small catfish species bottom feeds. Also a suspended bait cuts down on pesky turtle bites. Plus we dont all have the luxury of fishing the Mississippi or other big cat big water fisheries where you would drag or bump or something.
A catfish vedio
I've made a few. Thanks for watching!
What river is this?
The grand
Is that in Iowa?
Northern missouri
Ah OK looks like a nice river. Ty
what's the biggest cat u cought
This guy from last spring is my biggest blue.
ruclips.net/video/zKumpjGYoeU/видео.html
What size slip float should i use
Depends on how big of bait you want to use. Whisker seeker has a bunch of different sizes to pick from. For live bluegills and sunfish, I like either the 3 or 4 oz size. Just follow the link: whiskerseeker.com/floats/
River Certified thanks for all your help. Im about to order a couple
Adrian Garcia yes sir. Anytime!
You don't use tails with ur bobbers
chuck taylor what do you mean by tails?
River Certified it's a straw that has a styrolhome ball at the end of it and it stops ur bobbed and ur line tangle up it goes stopper I think tattle tail bobber
River Certified it's a straw. That has a foam like ball at the end of it. It comes in pink yellow green and then u put ur bobbed on
I'll have to check em out. Appreciate the tip! Thanks for watching!
River Certified if u subscribed I will show u what iam talking about I will go live now and show u
Hahahah u got a thumbs down already lol. Seems like a three way swivel would be better? Never used them before but have wanted to. I've also never weighted the bobber like that and should. Seems like when I fish a big bobber I get a hit and it goes under but I loose a lot of fish not sure why.
Super Hank Outdoors I think I made someone mad earlier for not subbing back soon enough. Odds are it's a small fish if the hit and let go. Big flatheads usually eat and swim back home.
River Certified that's funny. I get those a lot too, a lot of times they say they
Subbed and didn't even sub lol.
Super Hank Outdoors I've never been able to make everyone happy. Sometimes I can't make anyone happy haha.
Santee rig works better
Dennis Nichols my inner 4 year old just enjoys watching the bobber go down. Thanks for watching!
You need to explain better I’m confused. Grrrr
Cat Daddy Fishin Google float paternoster rig
River Certified gotcha. I’ve watched almost all of em again bro. You should do an in depth video on just how to be an over all catman. Lol.
That's a good idea. I'll work on that one tomorrow!
I usually do not tell people this but going to help you out here young Man. Your Leader should ALWAYS be heavier then your mainline! Most stress when fighting fish is the last 12 to 18 inches of line. That is what will break easier then the rest of the line so why are you guys putting 85 pound mainline and 30 to 40 pound leaders? Come on. Switch it the other way. I catch 40 to 60 pound Flatheads with 40 pound mainline and 50 pound leader. Also, you have more line to fight the fish with if your Mainline is lighter. Good Luck!
Bill Briscoe more than one way to skin a cat! Appreciate the pointers and thanks for watching!
River Certified, I hope you did not take that wrong brother! It is true that most lines break at that last 2 foot area. less poundage there just blows me away. Lol. Would love to fish with you sometime. Come to Mississippi, Hollar at me
Bill Briscoe not at all. If we all did the same thing, it would be a boring planet. Thanks for the invite, there's some big cats down there! I might see ya someday!
He using lighter line so if the lead gets caught in something on the bottom he can break it off and still keep the fish.
its called a pal o mar knot pronounce it correctly
You're wrong😆😆😆
@@RiverCertified The knot was named after the fireman who lived in Palomar California after winning the Stren fishing line strongest knot contest
The town is pronounced Pal O mar
