rad that a younger generation experiences the awesomeness of Joan of Arc. I was fucking 21 at the time of this show. I remember seeing promise ring, texas is the reason, and jejune (I think it was jejune that played) in 97 or 99 and hearing these guys for the 1st time.
Couple songs from my all time favorite Joan of Arc record..... Live in Chicago, 1999. It's not actually a live album, and it's easily one of their most melancholy. It also turned me onto the French New Wave film work of Jean Luc Godard.
I was living in Swarthmore at the time of this show. Of course, I was only 9 years old. Also this was 10 days before the release of the American Football LP.
It's Matt Clark, who played with them during the Gap sessions and then briefly on and off afterwards in the early '00's. He also was the guitarist in Pinebender and played in a noise duo called White/Light

sounds so rad-- wish I could've been there

Wow, they even integrated a live on-stage amp burning, truly avant-garde!
If only I could have been into joa when I was in 5th grade.

I like how they are all looking around for Todd at the end
00:00 Me (Plural) - Live In Chicago, 1999
11:34 White Out - How Memory Works
17:12 (I'm 5 Senses) None of Them Common - Live In Chicago, 1999
6:45 To've Had Two of - How Memory Works
1 2 3, this is rock history.... Oh, girl
such a comfy vid even w the amp exploding
this is really amazing. thank you. never thought i'd see videos of them playing of this stuff.
this is great! thanks for the upload
Featuring a smoking Silvertone Guitar amp!
great video!
I would love to see the rest of the footage of this show. I was there... so including any crowd shots...
I love this so much.
Only the brother of Tim kinsella could play these weird drum parts
This is Incredible
Omg look at baby Mike
I laughed really hard at "Where'd Todd go?"
Man if only I was born in the 80s this would’ve been within driving distance for me
this was the best lineup.
Second best. '03 lineup was the best.
look at at Kinsella on the drums c:
Riles theres a Kinsella on the mic too ya knowww
there's a cap n'jazz video where mike is wearing that same slant 6 shirt
That's Tim you moron
Vuk Jankovic I think he’s implying that mike is wearing it in the capn jazz video. No need to be rude.
Live, in Chicago 1999
Is this the same keyboardist from the This Must Be the Placenta music video? Looks just like him
yeah same guy
The guitarist with the glasses looks a lot like Jared from subway
What song is he playing in between me plural and white out?
miss Jeremy Boyle in the group
What ablum(s) are these songs from?
Any chance of another full send?
Just to clarify, Swarthmore is near (not in) Philadelphia.
Michael Thomas I'm from Runnemede, NJ which is a rock thrown away from Philly. Nice to see a Birds logo on a JoA video webpage.
close enough. no one outside of Philly gives a shit. see you at Dalessandro's?
Setlist?
I was 5.
I was being born in 23 days
Seriously.
anyone know what the lineup was for this show?
Mike (drums) and Tim Kinsella (vocals), Jeremy Boyle(keys), Todd Mattei(guitar) and i cant figure out who is on bass. hope that helps!
Sam Zurick on bass.
Peter Hall i dont think so, he looks nothing like Sam
i think it's Eric Bocek
It's Matt Clark, who played with them during the Gap sessions and then briefly on and off afterwards in the early '00's. He also was the guitarist in Pinebender and played in a noise duo called White/Light
Mike looks stoned as hell!
and then smoke appears on the amp, what a metaphor
20:02 guess that line was too on the nose to keep it on the record
Nah he's being tongue-in-cheek and singing a line from the Clash here.
@@paratext ah, thanks for clarifying
oh god. they were terrible
nah
どこが??
