It's a pre-Philles era picture (probably around '61 or '62), taken at the legendary Peppermint Lounge, here in NYC. It used to be on W. 45th (btwn 6th & 7th Aves). The Ronettes were the 'house dancers,' and Joey Dee & The Starliters were the house band at that time.
In Ronnie's autobiography, she wrote that it was frustrating for them to work evenings in the hip Peppermint Lounge and then have to go back to high school the next morning.
So why can't i find this version anywhere but here ? Have been looking for it ever since Rodney on the ROQ randomly played it around 1980 & burned it into my brain. The Ronettes were my favorite girl group in the early '60s yet i had not heard this record til then. I was like . . WoW ! Sigh
@amgervinus I know,..rediculus :/ It's his fault that the Ronettes aren't much more famous,...it's not that they weren't good enough at all! Out of all the girl groups including all the much more successful ones like the Supremes and that, the Ronettes are my favourite :) They were unique
This was one of those instances where Spector used Ronnie's vocal on a Crystals track. There is another version with the actual Crystals lead (La La Brooks) singing lead. Both versions use the exact same backing track. In any case, neither version was released at the time, recorded in late 1963.
I always loved this backing track - it always reminded me of a big, sprawling, panoramic western (film).
Was there ever a more magnificent girlgroup than the Majestic Ronettes?
No.
no sir
no
No
No sir there was not.🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶
Never heard this before. Classic 'Wall of Sound'..
Hard not to love them.
Soaring 'railroad to the sky' sound with Ronnie riding the wave.
I love her voice so much...

what happened to the Peppermint lounge?

Never knew the Ronettes recorded this. I know of the Crystals and the Dixie Cups' versions.
EPIC GREATNESS!!!
Saw them at The P/Lounge.........only 15 at the time. .... I know to young to be there, fell in love with Nedra.
I really loved there beat when I was a kid I always wanted to be the drummer for them
r.i.p my Queen verônica benett💔🥀
Great Hal Blaine close
Nedra was the hottest chick in this group.
Indeed she was.
most glamorous girl group of all, but my fave and absolute glamour queen among them was Estelle. and Ms Veronica can still call me anytime, I wish!
I actually think Ronnie was the sexiest one, but then I'm not a man!
Time has passed but I'm still taken by Nedra.....thankfully.
Can''t agree but I will say that in the history of rock 'n' roll they rank 1-2-3
great group and song james

First released in 1976 on an album compilation.
Crystals arrangement; Ronnie singing vocal. It works!
girls are so smart
For this song, I can deffo say stereo is better. The one done by “Monotostereotracking” is amazing.🌹✨
I didn't know that girls can tell originally was a ronettes song
❤️❤️👍🏿
So why do the notes say the “artist” is the Crystals? Definitely Ronnie singing.
