- George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.

The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

I was on, too! That was YOU??!! I was glad you said it, and totally agreed. I couldn’t figure out who was throwing all of those horrific expletives initially!! I could make out some of it, and some folks were talking about “ear fatigue,” which resonated with me, as well.

George was clearly involved in this crime, yet he is putting the victims families through this trial. That is pure evil.

As wrong as it is I’m not going to knock him for that- he has a 50/50 chance of getting off -most anyone else would do the same.

I love how the defense just bold faced lied when they said that George didn't like his family and was trying to get away from them. Meanwhile, George tells Angela that he wants her, Jake, the kids, and him to all move out west together. That defense opening statement was so ridiculous that it's comical.
The screaming is a bit much for me. I turned the volume way down. Can you imagine being in a room with the whole family? 😬

I was extremely excited about watching this trial and somehow it’s become the most boring trial.

Very good cross, so well prepared for this stubborn witness. He can't ever admit he's come to strange conclusions. That blood spatter expert just put his head in the sand at some point, practically saying as long as things could have happened the way he says, he won't change his opinion, no matter what. It's crazy. He's really hurting his reputation with these absurd findings, especially alleging Chris could have been badly injured outside, then ran and opened that door (without a handle) without the smallest drop or smear of blood anywhere near. Then he says he did not see the shoes, so he can't agree with the other expert that the shoeprints were of different sizes. This is insane stuff. I feel sad for him.

Angela reminds me of my narcissistic mother. The blood spatter guy is the worst. After this, why would anyone want him to be a teacher on this subject? He is useless here and is teaching people the wrong way to analyze. Love the prosecutor's tone when cross examining him, just a touch of condescension. Yes! Hope it's his last "expert" court appearance.

Frankly, the audio is so bad that the transcripts need to be available during deliberation. It's almost incomprehensible.

Dear George, yes its me again and I hope that you will one day see all these comments. You have so much time on your hands, why not take elocution classes and voice training and try to do something to improve yourself. It might even improve your poor self-worth, who knows, but its worth a try. You could take these classes during off time from digging on the chain gang, or what does Granny dearest suggest? She could also join the elocution classes.

I’ve noticed that regardless of the defense or prosecution there is a lot of creative manipulation of the evidence and data. It’s really a matter of who has the best story line and the emotional intelligence and courage of the jury.

Is Kaneppa new to this? Why is there a 45sec to 1-1/2mins between asking witness about each recording b and the playing of each recording. Why is she so slow? Pick up pace. Also, Defense atty’s are douches on objecting.
