  • Today's video is the complete guide to planting a NEW Cosmic Crisp Apple Tree, with a Honeycrisp grafted onto it. Andy will demonstrate and give tips along the way to ensure optimum root and tree growth in the young stages of this tree.
Cosmic Crisp Apple Trees were developed by Washington State University over a couple decades to maximize a sweet flavor with a touch of tart, a refreshing crisp, and a unique durability that maximizes cold storage and freshness. This brand new variety of apple comes from a Honeycrisp and Enterprise apple, with professional growers going nuts over this amazing fruit tree. If you can get a hold of one, you will love the fruit and journey it will bring!
    Some of the focus questions:
How to plant a Cosmic Crisp Apple Tree?
What are the differences between a Honeycrisp and Cosmic Crisp Apple?
What is important in the first year of planting a new apple tree?

Friend of mine just bought us a cosmic crisp for a house warming gift in kitsap. Very helpful video I may get 2 more for since they keep so long!

Good luck and I am heading more towards crafting different varieties on there and having some fun with the tree. Be sure to have a pollinator for it because it is a late foreign tree.

I've got 3 apple tree saplings that are about 6" tall at the moment. I sprouted the seeds myself from a Cosmic Crisp apple I had in early spring. Looks like I've got about 4 years to go before I'll get any apples from them.

That sounds interesting, and I wonder what other variety mixed with your Cosmic Crisp...maybe you'll discover a new amazing apple. I anticipate next year I will get my first small crop. I think my root system is well established now and the tree structure is getting to a good place. Good luck, and thanks for sharing!

@@backyardadventureswithandy Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what I'll get, really. From what I was told from a family member, I could end up with a tree that bares a different apple than a Cosmic Crisp, which sounds weird when ya think about it, but I know very little about growing apple trees and dealing with cross breads. Thankfully, there are people like yourself that have all kinds of helpful guides up on the internet to help me out along the way. 👍👍

The Cosmic Crisp is sweet with a nice crunch, but also stores well while keeping its freshness. Gala are nice, but seem to be a little less sweet and a different texture/crisp. I think you really need to try them side by side to see the difference.
These do need a pollinizer, which really is the truth for all apples to thrive. The only successful way around having two trees is to graft pollinizers onto the same tree. And, as for elevation, I am not familiar with how different elevations effect it, but I believe they will grow quite well anywhere that other apple trees grow well.

I have not looked much this Spring, but Flower World in Maltby, WA is known to have them. I believe these are only sold in Washington State.
