    Well done PP - you basically covered 2 of the top 3 stalls in lagoon - the other is the Wan Tan Mee that opens later in the afternoon, their char-siew and noodles is worth another trip

    "This is the way" - nothing better than quality hawker food, made by someone who's specialized in just one or two dishes, and have continuously improved them. Great video, would love to try these dishes.

      Hello Master Genki.. after so many years in Thailand.. what’s your favourite comfort food over there?

    • @mindywong3839

      I think youngsters nowadays would very much prefer air-conditioned swanky joints since most of them come from double-income families. For me, I don't mind the nice ambience for catching up with friends but I have always felt they serve pretentious food that may look good and that's it. New age creations...but when it comes to having a satisfying meal, nothing beats seasoned hawkers who have perfected their crafts. Comfort food is what it is - it comforts you even after the 1st mouthful. My older sister belongs to the swanky resto type so at times I hesitate to meet her up for makan. She eats little to stay trim. I am a big eater because I like to eat to my heart's content and work out a lot. Just can't find common ground but of course we do celebrate many occasions with parents etc. I am the penang, Malacca street food type, she is the French, Italian resto type. 😅😅

    Those street hawkers in the 70s are classic. There was a Satay Bee Hoon stall located here from MacPherson too, operated by 3 bros. Always long queue, so far no other Satay Bee Hoon stalls can even come close to match them. But heard all 3 bros are diagnosed with terminal illness i think is cancer. Very sad, missed them dearly.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  Год назад

      I actually filmed the exterior of the satay bee Hoon stall.. they’re not opened for biz yet. There’s black and white pictures of the old stall too

    • @JS-ev4xc
      @JS-ev4xc Год назад

      @@Piggypuggy hmm, the one I mentioned should have stopped operation many years ago. The same stall or original operator? The brothers owners were all quite big size. I did a quick google check and saw Soon Huat stall but not sure is it the same stall, but looking at the pic, the gravy is a bit dilute, the original stall satay gravy is thick, creamy-like & nearly oil-free, a gravy so far no one can replicate.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  Год назад +1

      @JS-ev4xc yeah.. their signboard did indicate it was from MacPherson.. but don’t know if any new operators took over. These days hawkers focus on quick profits. If anyone were to replicate a good quality dish of the past with real solid ingredients.. theyd probably charge $10 😅. Rent and labor cost doesn’t help either.. guess it’s the last that we see of yesterdays hawkers

      Tried the HJ at AMK due to the rave reviews. Was disappointed. Meat was tough and the soup was really salty. Prefer Jia Bin. Ironically the taste that hit home was the tau kee. Haven’t tasted the same anywhere in SG

    Boneless suits a lazy foodie like me to a T. I like boneless meat and I like Chinese wedding dinners with servers. 😂😂 too lazy to rush to stretch and snatch...would make me feel like a hungry ghost. Not a fan of duck rice but the thick gravy looks good.
