    Thank you Frank. I went with the Garmin GT15M-IH transducer on my 2023 21ft Switch Cruise. This was a simple installation and thanks to your video, I had all the parts and tools necessary to make this installation fast (relatively) and easy. The transducer works great! I noticed that you have a lot of surface clutter/reflection on your scope. I'm not sure if that is a result of your being in shallow salt water or RF interference(RFI) caused by the electrical system in your boat. As a precaution, I put snap-on Ferrite beads on the cables for RFI Suppression. and I don't have the surface reflection like you do. They are dirt cheap and doesn't hurt to try them. Thanks again for the great video!

    Which Model Chart Plotter did you install Frank ? -- I am getting one soon and would like the one I install to work with all the features that come with the Garmin Chart Plotter... I've read some of the Echo Map UHD units will not operate all their features if the Transducer you installed is used.... THANKS IN ADVANCE

    Great video! Does the transducer give a reading when your Switch is at higher speeds? I’m about to install one in my Switch 18. My friend’s does not give a reading above 10 mph.

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532
      @letsrolldiyauto1532  Год назад +1

      It does not. At higher speeds there's some cavitation that prevents accurate readings. his is true of both the BRP transducer and Garmin. To eliminate that, use the GT65 transom depth finder.

      Hi Frank, greatly appreciate your videos. I noticed you said GT65, did you mean GT56? Can’t find the 65. I don’t do much fishing but my main priority when picking out a transducer is knowing my depth at all speeds. Do you think the GT56 is still the best option for this? Thank you!

      The depth reading for the BRP depth finder is accessed by using the right and left arrows on the right steering side. It will rotate between settings, RPM, depth. You can check the connections and here is the BRP instructions. Look at the bottom for troubleshooting. brp.my.salesforce-sites.com/ISPublicArticleInfo/apex/BWLightningViewerWithTranslate?#id=kA03x00000113IdCAI&googtrans(en|en_US)

    What was going on with your screen? I'm guessing interference from the other depth transducer since they probably use the same frequency?

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532
      @letsrolldiyauto1532  Год назад

      Not interference. They are totally separate. If you go too fast, you'll get an inaccurate reading with either. The transhull GT65 is best for depth readings as speed.

  • @shottown911
    @shottown911 5 месяцев назад

    Do you ever notice depth flashes and it stops working at speed?

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532
      @letsrolldiyauto1532  5 месяцев назад

      Yes. That is normal. The depth finder is sonar and does not work in air. It neds to be in a liquid (water). When you start getting to speed, there's cavitation under the boat and these air bubbles interfere with the sonar. Also, the latency (time between the signal sent and signal received) may have an effect on the accuracy. The more expensive transom mounts will read depth under speed much better.

  • @mrgarcia6

    Hi Frank,
    I had my dealer install the transducer and it’s been a headache. It will never read above 15mph and often times won’t read at idle; I’ve seen others have success at 40mph. The dealerships worked with BRP and replaced the transducer and still it won’t work. Now they’re ordering a new cradle to see if that fixes it.
    Yesterday I took a look and noticed that the arrow is pointing towards the FRONT of the boat - could this be the root cause? If standing at the back of the boat, the arrow is pointing at 12 o’clock; should it be pointing at 9 o’clock (or maybe 10/10:30)?

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532
      @letsrolldiyauto1532  Год назад +1

      The arrow should be pointing towards the center of the boat (the keel). Thru hull transducers in the switch will rarely be reliable above 15 mph. Transducers need to be in liquid. So the cradle they're in needs to have fluid (usually marine anti-freeze) and the boat in the water. With the jet boats, we often can create some cavitation that can throw off the transducer reading. The transducers that will read at speed seem to be the transom transducers (outside the boat). I do not have one of those. But generally, the depth reading is most important for switch owners at lower speeds anyway.

    • @mrgarcia6
      @mrgarcia6 Год назад

      @@letsrolldiyauto1532 so it sounds like 12 o’clock is NOT the answer then, correct? Would it point directly to the engine (9 o’clock) or towards the exact center (~10:30)?

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532
      @letsrolldiyauto1532  Год назад

      You should not need to download anything. The boat does need to be in water. The transducer housing needs to have the antifreeze in it and the boat in the water. It won't read if the boat is on a trailer. Did you check to make sure the antifreeze didn't leak out (you had a good seal)? Connections all fully seated?

    Hi Frank, I ask my dealer to install a Garmin transducer on my Switch when I bought it. I put it in the water this weekend to try and it wasn't working. When I turned on the Garmin device on my dash for the first time, it appeared to have never been turned on as it asked for language, country etc...
    My question is, can a dealer install this without using the dash mount unit for calibration or connectivity etc? How would they know it works?
    Thanks very much!

    • @Drimplant
      @Drimplant Год назад

      As long as they installed it properly, they would not have needed the Garmin. In fact, you really can't test it unless it's in the water as it will not give a reading if on a trailer. The only thing that could really be an issue is not having the mounting sealed properly and having the antifreeze leak out. But they can usually see if it's sealed properly during installation. I'm sure it's not their first rodeo with transducer installs.

    • @Drimplant
      @Drimplant Год назад

      Yes. I had the dealer install the Sea Doo the BRP depth finder (as I had ordered it when I ordered my boat). The position it on the port side. There are transducer mounting areas on both sides. I installed the Garmin on the Starboard side. o both are functional.

    • @letsrolldiyauto1532

    • @Drimplant
      @Drimplant Год назад

      Are you in water? Depth finders don’t work in air. If you’re on the trailer, you will not get a reading. The mounting ring needs to be full of marine antifreeze and the boat in water. If the depth finder is found on the Garmin, then you problem is either the fluid leaked out of the mounting tube, in which case it needs to be resealed, or the boat is not in water. If it’s in the water and the mounting tube is still full of antifreeze. And the depth finder shows up as a device on the Garmin, then you should call Garmin and see about a replacement.
