Even though you did not have a card reader, the video really helped me disassemble the laptop perfectly. Thank you so much.

Used this video to replace the fan and heatsink assembly on my laptop. It is getting very old and I need it to survive until I am finished with school, so this was really a life save. It was a little touch and go for a bit (new fan assembly was slightly bent from shipping, and I had to gently bend it back to get it to fit, and it initially didn't boot, but after re seating some of the ribbon cables, it came through.)

Basic heat in concentrated confined areas is what turns copper color to grey as like your two fans and linked bar. Copper is a reactive material to consistent levels of heat so while it's perfectly natural to see two tones of color, it illustrates the heat it's subjected to.

Excellent video - My P50 was starting to taxi to the nearest runway. After following your video and thoroughly cleaning, dusting, and repasting, the jets are now silent (and cool as cucumbers).
In case it helps someone, I sorta freaked out when after putting everything back together, I pressed the power button and the only response was a momentary spin of the GPU fan and a flash of the keyboard backlighting. No video...just a green power led staring blankly back at me. I partially took it apart and made sure everything was properly seated. I suspect the video cable was not fully pressed back into place...or maybe it was one of the memory sticks. Also, it is easy especially with the SSDs to think that things are seated when they may not be. You need to feel / hear a definitive click or snap with those SSDs. Without that, you will not boot properly.

Thank you, I downloaded your video and ran it on another laptop during disassembly. I dismounted my P50 Xeon twice: the first time to find why I got this noise on the left side cooling fan. I noticed that the noise was coming when fan was rotating at higher speed. I tried to fix it by adding some oil. No way, I had to glue the left fan container together after I messed it up. I ordered a new fan on ebay and replaced the old fan last night.

I'd say the heatsink copper was fine, didn't look burned at all to me. Looks like it was ?painted? gray or the copper was plated with nickle or something and some of the plating had rubbed off. The copper on my P50 heatsink assembly is shiny. I'm replacing my fans since the right side is getting a bit noisy. You can save some money if you just get the fans and reuse the copper.

The Grey discoloration could be a sign it's not pure copper but rather a cheap alloy .... hate to think this about such an expensive machine, try scratching it with sandpaper and see if it's a form of grime on the external as seeing the thermal paste come of clean on your finger indicates it's probably not burnt up, also the lowest temp on that fan assembly is actually the plate on the fans and its there also

I'd say go for the P50. I've had mine for a few years, put a M.2 SSD in it and made that the C drive, it runs pretty good. I run Xplane 11 on it, you get a playable framerate if you turn the settings down a bit. Mine is due for new fans now, but I've had it apart before. I think most laptops require a full teardown to get to the fans, that's pretty common.

Recently my Lenovo P50 Laptop suddenly won't turn on. It turns on for only 1second, with the green power button lighting up & the fan kicking in for 1 second, then it immediately shuts down. When I plug in the power supply, the green light on the back of the computer lights up when I have the battery installed. So it doesn't seem to be a power supply issue. I searched all over the web for solutions & tried doing power drains, unplugging/ plugging in the battery & power supply, running with just the power supply, running it with just the battery, & both battery & power supply. I did the CMOS battery resets, removing HD & ram then trying to powering it on, but I get the same result.
Have u ever dealt with anything like this with any Lenovo laptops you've worked on? Do u have any possible solutions? Please let me know. Thanks & have a nice day.

The tray for the SSD is wrong. There's a different part number for NVMe SSDs with thermal adesive (4XB0K59917). That tray should only be used in SATA M.2 not in NVMe M.2.

Is that why the computer came with that and the computer boots from it?
What makes you get to decide what the computer gets to use? The tray and SSD work. Why would you put a slower SATA one?

@@ItsBinhRepairedYou didn't understand me. There's a specific tray for SATA M.2 and a specific tray for NVMe M.2. That computer seems to have come with the SATA tray but with an NVMe. That leads me to suspect that it had originally a SATA SSD which was later replaced by an NVMe SSD without replacing the tray. The problem with this is that the trays are optimized for the specific type of SSD, in particular for their thermal characteristics. It's just a tray, it has no electric properties. But using the wrong tray is likely to cause thermal issues. It won't prevent it from working or booting, but it will increase the chances of incurring in performance losses due to thermal throtelling if the SATA tray is used with the NVMe SSD. So, when the original SATA SSD was replaced by an NVMe SSD, the tray should have been replaced as well.

Great video, very helpful -- but every time I saw your fingernails I wanted to puke! Also, I'm surprised you didn't have plastic spudgers on hand.

Glad the video helped. You might want to look into why you have that issue with fingernails. Seems like a type of phobia or something. Fingernails are much better pry tools because of the way they can be manipulated to apply force in different directions not really possible by pry tools.
I have plenty plastic spudgers, but only use them where they are actually better at getting the job done, which is less than 1% of the time.
Imagine someone telling you to throw away your hammers because the shape makes them puke and instead told you to use rocks because those aren't as gross to them. Yeah... no thanks. I'm going to keep using my nails. Lol
