I can understand why you guys like Joan Hackett! She has that sweet, innocent All-American girl next-door look and personality. She definitely was the star of the show! Sad to say you do not see actresses like her anymore in Hollywood. She was an easy woman to like.
When I was a kid I would watch this show every week with my Dad who was a WWII vet. Whenever something was incorrect my Dad would say “that’s BS”. Before you point out my name I am a distant descendant of my screen name. My Dad was a first generation German American who was very proud to fight the Nazis.
Thanks for posting the best show ever, Combat, power packed with life lessons and illustrated sermons, accompanied by great patriotic music, all to spur us onward and to not give up.
Dan O'Herlihy was magnificent as a Nazi major. I quietly cheered when Gabrielle plunged her shiv in his guts. This is an episode I do not recall ever having seen before. Joan Hackett was quite the quiet retiring fox when she was young. Thanks for uploading this.
I had never seen this series but even now the story lines are good and well acted. Have been binge watching it. Also the sets and scenery is very good.

Ahem … there’s plenty of great shows on TV these days and with so many channels and streaming services you can virtually find anything that suits your tastes. Don’t begrudge another generation or culture or ethnicity because their tastes aren’t like yours. After all isn’t that what the Nazis were trying to do with the world ? Just sayin …

The female lead in this episode is Joan Hackett who plaid Perdy Perkins in the James Garner movie Support your local sheriff. I would recognize her eyes and her voice anywhere.
Wow! This episode is so odd, that it's entertaining. It's a particularly weird ending. Hackett, before Will Penny, and Sutton, just before Gomer Pyle, are very good in these roles.
Sheeky(?) Green would appear in another episode still wearing those "strange" camo pants that no other actor in this series ever wore. He is an interesting choice for a recurring role.
It IS odd that Joan Hackett did not get "guest star" credit at the beginning. She had a bigger and more complicated role than Herlihy (who was very good).
Crappy ending. I love Pattons quote. " No one won a war by dying for his country. It was won by making the other guy die for his country ". Live to keep on fighting.
The Femme Fatale was very elegant and attractive, and I like the way she rammed the knife, (or was it a letter opener) into his guts and then blessed herself, JUST LIKE A GOOD FRENCH CATHOLICK. such a sad but honorable end.
The Frenchman saying his carpet is priceless. Lives of my brother Marines are priceless. I would have definitely "drove" home that point to him. But... it's just TV.
Dan O'Herlihy must have gotten first billing among the guest stars for being better known at the time. Nothing against him and his performance was great but Joan Hackett stole this one. She was a brilliant actress who could do anything easily. Sadly, she succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1983.
That’s a lie . Actor Frank Sutton went too enlist in the Marine Corp but was rejected because he was color blind . He never served in any branch of the Armed forces period !!!!
44:16 I finally recognized the badly injured lieutenant(left side of screen) in this as the "I hate when I'm badgered by pharmacists!" character from MST3K episode 'Riding with Death'. PS Leave Robert Denby alone!
1962-62 was also the first year for Gomer Pyle so TV audiences were just getting familiar with Frank Sutton. Curious that Gabrielle makes no effort to escape.
@@bksvdb Not with B 17s, they weren't accurate enough to hit a single building, in fact they were lucky to get better than half their bombs on the right city.
I wonnder if anyone with knowledge of WWII (or at least general war) can tell me how realistic it really was for a military vehicle to accidentally end up a mile behind enemy lines inside a city, not a wilderness.
This I think the 1st Doc's last show . He was upset over this episode and always thought He messed it up , because of His acting an may had quit. I saw this interview with Him on this episode when a special about Combat when it was playing on Encore 10 years ago The next episode is the last of season one . I still have it , I wish I knew how to upload stuff it a nice special and had interviews and bloopers. I would like to share it with all the Fans

How come he never went to Vietnam? The same for Gomer and all of his boot camp buddies. It was right in the middle of that war when his show was popular.
Gabby must have picked up on the finer points of shanking krauts from Hanley or Saunders. Upsetting that when Hanley asks for air support they cant be bothered to help him but call a bomber strike on the frog mansion.
amazing show for its time, last major cast member Jack Hogan died a few days ago at 94
He was in a few episodes of Adam 12

Joan Hackett was fantastic in “Support Your Local Sheriff”. My favorite actress ever!!!
She was great in Will Penny, the one I'd like to see her in is The Terminal Man.
She also used to turn up as Robert Reed's girlfriend in "The Defenders."
I would never have guessed that she was already 29 yrs. old here. She could pass for 20.
Gabrielle, a true soldier. If we only had more like her. ( Judges 5 : 24 - 27 ) Old King James
