Rob I watched Kevin's video and it wouldn't let me comment or click notifications it looks like he set it up in RUclips for kids? Thought someone should let him know
I love all your videos and this one was just fun to watch. I’m currently building my Cosman Tools inventory, it’s just getting expensive because I feel like I have to buy two of everything, one to use and one to display. Thank you for what you do.
Rob, here’s another thought… I for one would really like to see a short (or not!) video of your production shop with everyone working in it. I think there’s a lot of us who would enjoy watching your team at work! Seeing the guys and gals making, packaging, and shipping the tools that we love to use would be a treat!
@@RobCosmanWoodworking Would love to, I've never been in a working productions shop so it would be interesting to see "a day in the life of" type video. Could even just be a camera setup and running, nothing fancy.
Your shop is a marvel and I appreciate the tour. The only reason it has grown to this point is your attention to excellence and your commitment to quality. Your teaching is enjoyable and rewarding. Thanks for what you do and who you are. Keep growing and serving the woodworking community.
I remember when it was just you and Dave ( miss Dave) in the pool house and the low basement setup and the subtle bickering when he was filming some of the hand and power tool workshop videos. I’m glad to see how much you’ve grown.
A lot of hard work in hard times. Great to see your stock building with fine wordworking tools. I look forward to the day I can come across the pond and visit.
Very impressive working shop. I have a Rockwell 14" Bandsaw that also has the gearbox to slow the blade down to metal cutting speeds. It's a 1960's vintage and a beast. Since my shop is in the basement, everything needs to be dismantled to get down the stairs and at 66 years old, I cannot horse things around like I used to. I also scored this bandsaw at a local auction and was delighted to only part with $150 bucks to win the bidding. Now you're going to make me start looking for General drill presses and it looks like you've cornered the market on those but I need a 17" so maybe there's one out there for me.
Really fantastic shop! I just discovered you on RUclips in December when I realized I needed to learn more about hand planes, and sharpening. I have a pretty complete shop in terms of power tools, but wanted to extend my ability to create better joints and surface finishes. I have learned a lot- thank you! This tour was an eye opener - had no idea your shop and business was so extensive! Great tour! And congratulations on your success!
Great shop Rob. Love to see the growth. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and have incorporated a lot of your ideas into my shop. Thank you for all the inspiration!!
It was really interesting to see what a 'real' production shop looks like. When neatness meets production, guess what wins!!! I feel much better now!!!
Great job Rob! Congratulations on your success, you make excellent quality products that are well thought out and built. It's obvious that this is your passion, it's wonderful to see that you enjoy it, and also that you get to pass it on and work with your children. Thank You for sharing.
Really really nice to see the entire shop in all its glory. I've been watching your videos Rob since you started putting them out and I mean this with all my heart _ If anyone disearves to make millions of dollars and have a real business to hand down to his grand kids it's you Rob. You did leave two items of your shop tour though_ I'd have liked to hear a little bit about how Jake did your lighting. Your shop is so well lit, not a shadow in sight. And Now that I know of the existence of the shop dog we need to see pictures, have him laying around during the live shows.
Great vid Rob. Always nice to see what someone else uses to create a quality product for use in woodworking industry. Good tools are a must. Not to mention the products you make are made very close to where I grew up. Have a great day.
Rob, I'm building a cabinet and would love to see the detail of your drawer stays please! I ordered your dovetail marking knife and missed you on the phone to ask the question.
That was very enjoyable, glad to your business is doing so well. I regret not coming to one of your classes. We lived in California for 22 yrs. We moved to Nashville and built my dream shop 3 years ago.... As a Vet myself it is a great thing what you do for them. God Bless
Great shop tour. Thank you because of this tour I picked up that I need to change my flammables to my steel cabinet and possibly move it closer to my big overhead door. Thank you.
Thank you Rob that was fun to watch and helps us to understand how much your business volume has grown in the last few years. You have been generous to woodworkers all over the world with your time and knowledge and have been blessed accordingly. Blessings to your family and employees in 2022. I have lots of tools but the ones I enjoy using the most are the one you and your staff have made or made available and taught me to use.
Great video! The shop is a place I would like to work in. Thank you for sharing the business side of the tour it was great to see back stage where all the magic happens to get all those great tools out to all of us. Take care.
Not just an amazing shop but an amazing business I think this video is extremely important for your credibility for people who don't really know who you are. Extremely inspiring!
Thanks for the great shop tour. I can tell you never met a tool you didn’t like, kindred spirit. In the early 70’s, I bought the wood from four bowling lanes and sold them for workbench tops. People loved them. I really liked you cabinet makers workbench. Did you use the plans from Fine Woodworkers magazine? I started constructing the same bench in the 80’s and didn’t finish it until I retired in 2012. It’s a nice solid workbench, I built four drawers under the top.
Thanks Rob, very useful and congratulations on building such a successful shop and business. Looks like you finally have some peace of mind about it all.
As an artist who appreciates "Old School" quality and ethic, I'd love to patronize your retail store. But... I am in the US, and the wares I'd buy from you are not shipped here. Any plans to change that?
First thought was... OK another shop tour, so I put off watching for a bit. My mistake! First, it is well presented with Rob giving the kinds of details that you want to hear. Most of the questions that I would have wanted to ask... He answered. Second is Rob's smooth, engaging style... Which makes every video so enjoyable to watch. Hard to find anyone who has the polish and put you at ease manner that he has. End result... A very enjoyable, interesting, and fun stroll through a first rate pro shop.
Great tour of a very impressive business setup. Since I (hopefully).will be moving into my new one man shop in a couple months I would be really interested in how you move all that heavy equipment around. Is it just raw muscle power and brute force or do you use some kind of mechanical machinery or forklift? My brother and brother-in-law helped me move my equipment into storage in 2020 but I’ve been told in no uncertain terms that they are both busy this year. The table saw, lathe, bandsaw, drill press, and even my work bench are way beyond moving by myself. We just moved here about a year ago so I don’t know anybody with strong kids. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Rob, your disappointment with single phase motors at and above 5HP is no surprise to me! The cost, maintenance, starting inrush (lights dimming, additional power demand fees by your elect. supplier, etc.) "softer" starts, and highly increased efficiency & power delivery of 3-phase motors, along with the reduced cost and complexity, are all good reasons to have a discussion with your favorite electrician about electronic phase converters. I was an industrial electrical contractor for 20 years, and had a great number of customers who had only single phase power available and were delighted with electronic phase converters. They are much less expensive and straight forward than rotary phase conversion... rotary converters have their place & purpose, but I believe digital might serve you better. One electronic converter can serve a number of lesser HP motors on the same circuit. A future friend, and admirer, Jay O.
I remember years ago mentioning to someone "Yes this woodworker had 10 children so he had to find another job". Now your grand plan makes more sense as I see you explain walking through your shop - and here is where my son or daughter XYZ works. Yep smarter than the average bear as Yogi would say.
Happy New Year Rob & Co. Great 'Shop' Tour Rob. Staggering how fast your business has grown over the last couple of years. While it is and has been a lot of work, given your PHP and all you do for our CWV's, you and your family deserve all this success and more. I'm sure in a couple of years down the track it will have grown even more. Your videos and fortnightly Saturday night sessions are a pleasure to watch. Again this is a lot of work for you and your team. I thank you guys for giving all of us a chance to be a part of something so very special. Thanks mate...kmdc in Oz.
Hi Rob, you mention a couple of times in this video that you bought a machine at auction. Do you have a list of auction sites that you monitor that you can share? Or how do you find out about these auctions? Thanks, Duker
Incredible Rob. Very nice to see a professional production shop and the considerations that go into it. Not something I will ever have or even aspire to, but cool to see anyway!
Great video Cosman Team! Would love to see a video on making the cabinet/drawer corner (by the Jet drill press) Looks like a project ppl would be interested in putting in their own smaller shops...and a great way to work on carcass building, dovetails, drawer fitting, panel door fitting, etc. Is that available in one of the online workshops?

Great Tour of the shop!, Impressive shipping room. I've been trying buy a few of of your products including a Woodriver hand plane from your site but its not allowing shipping to Australia?, will this change in the future?
For those interested in the over-arm saw guard / dust extractor; I believe that company was acquired by SawStop, as the new SawStop arm that I purchased recently from them looks identical except for color and branding. It's a great solution -- much nicer than the one that ships with the saw.
Its impossible to be dust free, but that doesn’t mean you give up the good fight. I’ve pretty much burned out on shop tour videos here on RUclips (which doesn’t mean they’re useless, it just means I’ve seen so many as I plan my own new shop that there ain’t much new on them) but THIS one is a treat! I went to school in Alberta back in the 60’s and early 70’s, and as a result I recognize all those old General machines. I would love to acquire some of those myself! Keep your content coming, Rob. 👍

Yes the original overarm dust extractor is the only unsatisfactory thing about the sawstop
I’ve seen videos and heard about dust free shops, is this actually a feasible goal or a fallacy that would just cause an unnecessary investment.
Its impossible to be dust free, but that doesn’t mean you give up the good fight. You should definitely have at least a dust collector to contain most of the large debris and some of the finer particles, but then add to that an actual air cleaner and you should be fine for most applications. Me never, I pay people to do that
