I love how smart people make things look so simple lol, mine went out this morning and I have to deal with it after work and am not looking forward to it. Thank you for the information!
Great video! On my 1999 E150 my wire from the alternator was burned off and shorted to the alternator. The connections on the positive terminal burned up. I ordered a new alternator and will use a cable to terminate onto the new alternator and splice the old and new cables back together. Always something. Great video! God bless 🙏 Jeff - Sunny Central Florida
Michael Starr here, checking in from... ALASKA! I'm on a bit of a road trip and my alternator was broken . You got me through R&R last night with this awesome video. 👌very simple and easy to understand my cars alternator now. Thank you thank you thank you. I can safely travel through rest of the way home.
Greetings from British Columbia Michael! I am so glad my simple video helped you out. I tried my best to make it simple and straight to the point. Thanks for your story and feedback. Drive safely home! Cheers brotha.
Great video😅, I had a question about the e250 1998 model diesel. I have problems with mine where it only wants to start in warm weather. Once the weather gets cold 🥶 it doesn't want to start. When I try to start in the cold it will crank a few times then click. The first time before now. It just cranked and cranked and cranked with no start. What do you think the issue can be or a good way to go about solving this issue...
Good information. I figured it would be easy but didn't want to do it. After getting a price of almost $600 dollars I changed my mind quickly. I purchased an higher amp alternator by Bosh because I have two batteries and a lot of electrical add-on in my van. It's a camper conversion van. It's now working well with no problem installing it. Thank you again.
Quick question , I have a 1998 ford Econ lion I just replaced the battery and the alternator , it’s still not turning over all the way . Do you have a clue to what can be next ?
I would do voltage drop test at the starter while cranking engine. Check engine ground as well, should read around zero volts. Also clean and tight main positive and negative cables. Make sure nothing is corroded and lose.
This really big help. For video to watch since we’re the same RV home to fix. My issue was my battery sometimes good enough to start the next day it won’t start..I guess it is alternator right ?
I tried to install an isolator in my E150. I noticed that there are two wires coming from alternator to the left of the fuse box. I take the thicker one is the positive from Alternator to Battery. May I ask what the thinner one is for? Does it take energy from the battery? Thanks.
So as you mentioned the other one would be voltage indicator, so I remove that one from ALT pole from Diode isolator and wire it to BAT1, now the battery on BAT1 has the voltage regulator, now it's charging. Would the other battery on BAT2 without the voltage indicator, would it be charged? Thank you!
@@PistonShack Thank you very much! !So my understanding is that the wire is coming from alternator then to the ignition switched then to the battery. So I should locate that positive wire and disconnected it from the battery and wire it to ALT pole on isolator. Then from the isolator, connect the two batteries. Correct? I couldn't find a wiring scheme for the alternator otherwise, things would be a lot easier. The user manual is of no help.
Good question brotha! Probably, before you order one - go to check the plug or depends from the year it should be reflected in parts catalogues, I think so. Thanks for watching!
Hey Rob! No, that have never happened to me. Sounds like you got defective alternator, probably re-manufactured one. Have you fixed alternator issue on your van already?
@@PistonShack yeah fixing it & doing preventable repairs . Getting into replace idlers & belt are easier than Road side fix's . 2 mechanic told me front bearings can cause Lock up & still bench test Good . Considering the HEAT on its pulley & belt residue around alternator , replace it is under way.
Thank you for the great video. Tomorrow I’m doing both the belt and alternator. My alternator pulley froze and burned the belt. I have to check the other pulleys as well.
9 months later You helped Me ! Replaced altenator on a E-250 1999 with 164000 miles on it .Makes it easy when I can see You do it first .
My pleasure Dennis! Let me know if you have any questions. Take care brotha!

It's not always as simple as it seems, but with the right knowledge, you can tackle almost any task.
Thank you! I have a home on wheels and wasnt sure what an alternator looked like going into this 😂 but my husband and I can do this easy ❤

Thank you so much for this. I have a hard finding videos that work for me and this was so simple and easy to understand.

Hey Anderson! Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video! How long alternators usually last??
Yeah, you're very welcome) Well, quality build one should last up to 150K .

I have a home on wheels in my E250 my question is can i replace my stock 120 amp alternator with a higher amp alternator? thanks 😊I have the 5.4
360000km wow! Can you test an alternator when it's not installed on the vehicle?
That ODO readings) Yeah, that's normal for Econoline vans they can go up to 1M with proper maintenance. Cheers!
Your local parts store can do it .
Great video. It helped me out a lot.

Do you have IGN switched voltage at the alternator on one of the wires when key ON?

What colors they are? 14 gauge (thin) wire goes to the voltage indicator.

I tried to measure the voltage either on BAT1 or BAT2, vehicle body as ground/negative, it doesn't give me a number that makes sense.
@@ehlai1676 You need to have ignition switched 12v to make alternator producing power.

Is it the same engine as on F-150??
Yup, 5.4L triton!
How does a person determine if alt. Plug is oval or standard on 150?

Have you ever had alternator lock up under tension while running But when tested at auto parts store work fine ?

Do you have video album for this specific ford eco line please?
No, unfortunately. I don't have.
Great video thanks!

Thanks Frank, I am glad it helped you out. God Blessing brotha.
what is the AMP on a E150 econoline 1993 Ford please
Hi Paulo. I think it's 95 amp or could be upgraded to 135 amp alternator.
Thanks
You're so welcome! Thanks for your feedback, appreciated)
One of the easiest vans to replace the alternator on...
Yup, it wasn't bad)
I need help my battery and alternator died somethn drained my battery
90 amps or 130 amps?
I would put 130 amps rather than 90 if you have one.
I think we only had 90 amps one available at the store at that time.
@@PistonShack Does it matter? I have an alarm and siren that draws on the battery quite a bit. The 130 A is an option. I think I’ll go with that.
Thank you for the great video. Tomorrow I’m doing both the belt and alternator. My alternator pulley froze and burned the belt. I have to check the other pulleys as well.
@@andrewg8888 If are you planning to camp in your van or run some power tools ect I would put 130
How much did you pay for that Bosch ?
Hey Crusty! It was around 280$ for new one. Thanks for watching.
The garage next door wants 300$ for this!
Right on! 300+ tax might ended up to 400$ - you never know.
Not true for 1994
Hi, what engine your van has? Thanks.
what is the AMP on a E150 econoline alternator 1993
I think that is 95 amps alternator.
