Sufjan Stevens has so many fantastic albums out. Albums such as A Sun Came, Enjoy Your Rabbit, Michigan, Seven Swans, Illinois, All Delighted People, Age of Adz, Carrie and Lowell, Planetarium, Aporia, The Ascension, Convacations and surprisingly a whole lot more.
Sufjan Stevens started the Asthmatic Kitty record label with his stepfather, Lowell Barnes and he's been releasing music ever since. So many great tracks. Impossible Soul, Chicago, Casimir Pulaski Day, I Want To Be Well and so many more.

Revisiting this video because I’m in a sufjan phase, my favorite has always been Carrie and Lowell because it hits this emotional precipice just takes you further down his emotionally rockslide. Like goodness it’s gorgeous

Age of adz is in my opinion the best album ever made. Impossible soul is definitely humanity’s peak.

What do you think of "A Beginner's Mind" with Angelo De Augustine. I thought it was beautiful, and easily an A or even an S tier Sufjan Record for me.
I actually haven't found the time to listen to it yet. I know, I know, I'm super late. I'm sure I'll love it thought because I'm a fan of both of them
@@KyleReidMu it’s incredible in my opinion, the melodies and songwriting is some of his best, and their voices compliment each other so perfectly to the degree where at points you can’t tell them apart. Very stripped back
I really appreciated that you didn't dismiss Age of Adz, it's an excellent album! Yes on I Want to be Well. But, kinda bummed you didn't mention Owl and the Tanager from All Delighted People, that's my favorite!

Fun fact all your S tier albums came out 5 years apart of each other. Loved sufjan for a very long time now so always enjoy more people spreading the word about him and his music
and sufjans latest S tier came out a whole 8 years after his last, when javelin came out in 2023. insane.
I have been thinking the same thing....Illinois is the greatest!!! It's so diverse, yet fluid; it's full of amazing melodies, instrumentation, and songwriting.....it's such a grand, complete, complex, yet so accessible work. It's like the pinnacle of album structure, concept, and composition

Illinois is possibly the greatest album ever made imo, not a single track that isn't next-level gorgeous
edit: also i love some of Age of Adz but sometimes it really hurts my head to listen to. a lot of the tracks are just way too long and end up devolving into repetitive noise (I Want to be Well mostly). i can listen to it sometimes but it can be a real chore to get through other times
Even its weakest track is an 8/10 (seer's tower)
Christmas albums got left out? Dang. They're all over the place in terms of quality but Star of Wonder and Sister Winter are imo up there with Illinois and AoA

I would suggest starting with Illinois! It's a pretty good introduction into his music

Sufjan Stevens is obviously Bisexual which is what songs 1 and 2 are about.
A beginner's mind is awesome especially back to Oz but its a 50/50 collaboration so i was not comfortable placing it with the other ones. Portland is a great city.

S - Planetarium (HUGE UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME I FUCKING LOVE THIS ALBUM jupiter is one of my favorite songs ever)

Definitely a solid list! I actually haven't listened to A Beginner's Mind at all yet because I've been pretty busy since it came out.

Interesting list! What are your thoughts on Carrie and Lowell?
@@KyleReidMu I think Carrie and Lowell is one of the most beautiful, haunting, well arranged albums out there. But for me, I far prefer Sufjan's complexly orchestrated and experimental/non-lyrical (I forgot to mention, The BQE goes on A-Tier). Sufjan gets pinned as sadboy music so often, and I think it's because people are mostly familiar with C+L. But I think there's so much other joyful and expressive work out there in his discography that I think C+L overshadows. I feel like that album is so one note, and there are many other notes to Sufjan!
