I’m surprised you didn’t mention using different knots. I use a full Windsor with most ties but sometimes I have the opposite problem, where the back blade is too short so I have to go with a four in hand.
I understand, I just think it would’ve been good to mention that different knots “eat up” different lengths. There are ties basically made for Windsor. Long, thin fabric looks so clean in a Windsor. I know what you mean about the big knot, though. Sometimes it’s not the length of the back blade that makes me switch but rather the material, as you mention.
I put the thin blade through the back label loop of the wider blade and then into the shirt. It stays well plus holds the big blade like a tie bar i.e. it won't dip into your soup while refilling
I used to think it was odd seeing sartorially well dressed men leaving the small blade slightly longer, but I succumbed to it. It just looks so good with high waisted trousers! Sprezzatura FTW!
I sometimesjust fold the bacm part back up again and secure it in place with a tie clip. . Less of a problem with a vest or waistcoat. Or with vintage ties.
Im pretty short so Im used to just shoving both sides of the tie into my pants. It helps that I like to wear waist coats and sweater vests so those cover it up pretty well.
Good point! Sometimes the problem isn't the length of the tie but the height of the trouser waist. I often see men wearing very low-waisted trousers, which requires a longer tie to reach the "waistline." However, this makes the tie look ridiculously long and disrupts the overall balance. Combined with very skinny ties and jacket lapels, the result is terrible! If you have basic sewing skills, shortening a tie by a couple of inches is quite easy. As mentioned in the video, it's also an inexpensive job for a tailor.
I usually just tie a bigger knot or I go for option 3 (tuck the tail into my trousers). However, I more often have the opposite as I have a long torso. Thanks, as always, Brian.
Actually, I never really encountered this Problem, not even with my old 80s ties from my dad (which are relatively long) as I always use the American knot.
I stuff it beneath my shirt, right under the collar button. Works perfectly fine every time.
Thanks for sharing!
@@hespokestyle It was my absolute pleasure! Did you try it?
Thank you for sharing that. I think that's the best option.

I don't like a thick knot. Plus with a lot of thicker fabrics, it just doesn't work unless you want an obnoxiously big knot.

I bought an extra long tie just so I could do the full Windsor knot.

I usually just re-tie it.
Probably the best answer.
be that guy, Master the spezzatura Look!
You can try!
@@hespokestyle I already do. For the last 7 years👍
I'm happy I see your videos on my feed again ❤
Thats why we had half windsor, double windsor and triple windsor to adjust the length
But the knot would be so huge

Trouser tuck is the best option.
Cheers
Yes, my favorite

Great tip!

Its fine for the back blade to be longer. Italian style
A nice problem to have, I always end up with the back end too short to even enter the label loop
I'd take that any day over the alternative!
Perfect video
Mines are routinely short.
I solve it by knot and collar
I know this may not be an option. But can you fold it up and put a tie clip on it ?
Nah do be that guy, small blade being longer is a great look and good use of spretzaturra
Or you can look like a complete affectation.
@@hespokestyle I think being extremely put together with not a thread out of place looks worse, a little intentional imperfection is good
As a guy who wears high rise trousers and is shorter this happens all the time, most of the time i have a vest so i tuck it in my trousers,
Sprezzitura time.😂
Actually, I never really encountered this Problem, not even with my old 80s ties from my dad (which are relatively long) as I always use the American knot.
Good for you!
With a Windsor or half Windsor knot you'll never have that problem.
Too big of a knot for me. And actually wouldn't solve the problem with this particular tie.
You can use the loops on the back of tie to fold the back blade up and down a bit behind the front blade, which can shorten it by a couple inches.
True. That can sometimes affect the way the tie lays, however.
I never had that problem. My ties are too short. Does someone know longer ties for „real“ guys?😂 Which brand do that? Cheers
What pattern of tie is this?
Prince of Wales check
I just re tie it properly
Given the tie I show in the video, how would you retie to fix the length? It's not possible.
Have a tie or two like this. I do a larger knot tie, given tie is a wider tie. full Windsor or trinity knot. Seems to helped
Make a windsor knot on a wide spread collar...
@souheil7590 learned that from a tailor. Wide/spread collar. Half Windsor not so much.
Depending on how high or low up ur shirt u start to tie the tie woulr be how lontg it would be
Okay?
Or just use a different knot
Doesn’t always work. I don’t like my tie knots to be the size of a fist.
or tie it all over again
Or you can be 6'8" and never run into this issue. 🤙
Tuck it in or be that guy
tie a bigger knot
wear a vest
Exactly what I would do
If you have a super long tie a vest would not remedy the problem. And personally, I am not a fan of big knots.
Or learn how to tie it so the back doesn’t end up longer than the other?
Or re tie the Damm thing..
Front blade perfect. Back blade obnoxiously long. How does re-tying help?
