For the spool of copper you can cut through the middle with your cutters to do it much faster. You can also tie the end of the copper wire to a drill bit and use your drill to unspool it that way but use a long bit.

The pink stuff is probably alumina with added CrO2. I have some beryllia tubes that are plain white, and I've seen magnetrons in all different colors. You probably don't want to breathe any powdered ceramic dust, but you're right, beryllia is the bad one. Just breaking it into pieces isn't really hazardous but if you're going to grind on it, try to do it under water or mineral oil to prevent dust.

You may want to be carful scraping microwave magnetrons since they may contain a small amount of beryllium oxide on the antenna and stem (the purple and gray rod). Beryllium oxide is a carcinogen if inhaled, so don’t crush it if at all possible. Some people say that the magnetron in home appliances does not contain that material and I don’t have solid proof either, but it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.

What about going around the day before garbage pick up and do some street scrapping?
@@scrapitall200 I'm not on Facebook, but I'm definitely looking into auctions. Are newspapers still a thing? I know business cards on bulletin boards in coffee shops are definitely a thing, so that might be a reasonable compromise. If your scrap yard knows you they’ll just take your word for it if it’s brass. If they don’t know you, they’ll just look through the bucket real quick to make sure it’s brass. So yes, they’ll buy micro brass and copper Thank you for watching.
This weekend I’m planning on packing up my e waste to mail in be my first time ever idk what I’m doing but I’ll get it done everything has pictures on them for most part I do have few things I need to know one is I ripped around about 20 dish box’s out for e waste out what r them on board sort and the card that’s in them do u cut the little gold chip out of them and is that clean fingers? Hi James, I'm also from Australia. Do you mind telling me where your yard is located? The one giving you $1.15/kg ? Mine is giving me 80 cents per kg for motors and they're telling me that's the best rate and I don't believe it at all.
When you put it in the vise I thought you were going to do it how i do it but then you grabbed a hacksaw and cut it open. I hold them upright and just put the end in the jaw and just squeeze it shut until the end pops off and the copper springs out if you are lucky
@@scrapitall200 Actually the vise i use for this is missing the jaws. They were removed for some reason many years ago and the jaws grew legs apparently. so i set that 1/2 inch or so edge under where the jaws go just above what i think is the edge width of that plastic and just squeeze it shut, most times that end plug pops off. if i get too low it just seems to smoosh together or if i get too high the bottom doesn't pop off. stop as soon as the bottom pops off then you can pull the copper out as a whole. i even do them on the one like you smashed with the hammer. even the ones you put the screwdriver through and just unspin it. I just cut the plastic end off with a side cutter and pull it off as a unit seems faster to me but i do occasionally unstring them like that.
Well I had a few stators needing stripping so I bought myself a machete. It beat the hell out of my hand that was holding the machete handle and left some serious damage to the blade. The problem was the staters had 4 steel alignment pins to hold the plates together. I cul through the pins and it went easy but you may want to warn your viewere to not use the machete on these pins.
That’s awful, sorry that was your experience. I actually have a few times mentioned that very thing in some of my videos cause I learned the hard way myself.
@@scrapitall200 well I cleaned up the blade and its ready for action. I have 5 more stators and a crate full of rotors. I am always looking for a better way to drive the shaft from these rotors.
@@mattyal9347 I’m glad you got it cleaned up. I don’t remember if you saw my video where I show 3 ways to scrap armatures (rotors) I know a hydraulic press is the best to remove the shaft, but idk if you have one.

@@jwall6006 oh no!! I will be praying for sure! I hope everything is going to be ok with your husband? There is basically just more plastic/rubber like material. I’ve never taken one completely apart, I tried once but it was just way too much work. It’s definitely not worth the trouble. God bless!

Beryllium Oxide was used until they realised aluminum oxide will do. so from around 1998 Beryllium Oxide was widely discarded by manufacturers. I live in Texas, so I'm nervous about going neighborhood hunting on garbage day and getting shot at.
@@SethiusAlpha Mike the scavenger is in Texas and he has no problems picking up stuff folks put out on the curb. He’s in the Houston area.
Yeah I suppose newspapers aren’t as popular as they use to be. I know in the county I live in, there’s a local paper.
so how long do u collect b4 u cash in ? do u have a video covering that ?
I’ve been saving my copper and brass for two years now, hoping to cash in before the summer is over.
Thank you for watching.
Amen
God bless you.
you need to make a little stand to hold the screwdriver so you can use both hands to unspool the copper
Sometimes I’ll stick the screwdriver in my vise and that seems to work really well.
Thank you for watching.
Can scrapyards identify micro brass? I have a big bucket of random micro brass, im scrapping for fun and only when i have time, never took micro stuff there just the big stuff to make room.
If your scrap yard knows you they’ll just take your word for it if it’s brass. If they don’t know you, they’ll just look through the bucket real quick to make sure it’s brass. So yes, they’ll buy micro brass and copper
Thank you for watching.
Step aside fidget spinners 😂 love it Brother!
Idk where that came from 🤣
Thanks brother.
@@scrapitall200 funny cause I found a fidget spinner in a bunch of junk the other day lol
I’ve actually never played with one before!

Thank you
I don’t know what the board inside would be classified nor the little gold on the card unfortunately. Sorry.
I no longer pull motors apart. I sell them whole at AUD $1.15 kg. Saves a lot of work and you don't get much less.
I scrap it all lol
Thank you for watching
Hi James, I'm also from Australia. Do you mind telling me where your yard is located? The one giving you $1.15/kg ? Mine is giving me 80 cents per kg for motors and they're telling me that's the best rate and I don't believe it at all.

I just love the berilium comments 😂😂 if people really believe China is gonna spend that kind of money on microwaves. I think they're truly crazy 😂
When you put it in the vise I thought you were going to do it how i do it but then you grabbed a hacksaw and cut it open. I hold them upright and just put the end in the jaw and just squeeze it shut until the end pops off and the copper springs out if you are lucky
I’ll have to give that a try, thanks for the idea.
Thanks again, I’ll give it try.
I’ve hacksawed those apart. Easier with my new vice. 👍
Oh nice! New vise sounds great.
you will find the soleniod jst inside the machine where your water pipe joins to the back

Have a good weekend buddy.
I don’t remember if you saw my video where I show 3 ways to scrap armatures (rotors)
I know a hydraulic press is the best to remove the shaft, but idk if you have one.
@@scrapitall200 i did see them! Before that I was throwing the whole rotor in a crucible and melting the copper off. This method is costly and time consuming.
@@mattyal9347 ok cool. Sorry I forgot. I try to remember as much as I can.
I’m really not a big fan of rotors, seems to be a lot of work for their return, but it’s hard to pass up on copper lol.
Great idea with the screw driver in the spool. That little spool had a serious length of copper wound onto it.
You certainly are rough on towels there buddy.
Nothing micro about that much of a copper haul
Yeah it kept going and going lol.
Good thing I have a source for unlimited used towels. 😂
Thank you as always for watching buddy.
Wow, great scripture. Need to trust God during a scary medical problem with my husband. The preschool scrapper would like to know if we can cut the plastic (da uder tuff ots) off of the dirty brass. I think from the conversation, in 4 year old, that speaks a mile a minute would like to know what’s inside. Is that easy to cut off?
@@jwall6006 oh no!! I will be praying for sure!
I hope everything is going to be ok with your husband?
There is basically just more plastic/rubber like material. I’ve never taken one completely apart, I tried once but it was just way too much work. It’s definitely not worth the trouble.
God bless!
On microwave thing there I just hit a screwdriver in side with hammer super fast
Lot of time they are really tight and I find this way much easier.
What number copper is that considered?
That’s all going to be #2 copper.

Didn't know those cylenoid things had copper spools in em. 👍
I don't know why I love micro scrapping. Maybe I feel like I'm recycling something that would otherwise get overlooked.
Imagine trying to explain internal combustion to the smartest dog on earth. It will never understand it. That's what I Imagine gods plan is like. Even if God himself told me, I'll never comprehend it, cant......no matter how much it gets dumbed down
Heck yeah buddy, micro scrapping isn’t for everyone, but folks like us just love it, even if we can’t fully explain why.
Amen to that. And that’s why it’s so important to trust which is also the hardest thing to do.
Thank you for watching.
I wish you live close by because I could give old microwave, all cords and old transformers you old Ethernet and catv wire wires I can’t be bothered I scraping
I do the bigger stuff
I can be bothering with the small stuff. I do hold on to a lot of stuff.
I do collect the old liquid mercury thermostat throw in a plastic bottle bubble wrap every tub have probably 6 gallons now and liquid Mercury is worth a lot of money. Will sell it in future. Every raw metal has some form of value.
@@davepetro5676 I would love to take all your small scrap off your hands, but I’m sure there’s someone in your area who would be glad to take it off your hands.

That pink bit from the microwave actually causes cancer if you break it so please be careful when handling them
Not always. The stuff that used to be in them would cause problems but it is too expensive to use for newer models.
Beryllium Oxide was used until they realised aluminum oxide will do. so from around 1998 Beryllium Oxide was widely discarded by manufacturers. Only cancer you will get is if you smash it to pieces and inhale the dust. Great comment brother. Just rap electrical tape and through in the shred not worth messing with
I got a bone to pick with you man. You dont make nearly enough videos. Im going to need you to work on that

if you're going to make a video that has magnetrons in it you should probably mention not to crack or break that pink part. it can be bad times if you do
I talk all about it in the video I mentioned that is linked in the description.
@@scrapitall200 thats good to hear, i plan on watching that one too as i cant remember if i have or not. around a year ago or so i learned that machete trick from you. i had never thought of trying that. what a time saver over trying to bash the weld in
That’s awesome, I sure do love using the machete!
There isn’t enough copper in the magnetron worth risking exposure to beryllium
Pretty much all manufacturers haven’t used beryllium in residential microwaves in years.
Thank you for the scripture. I will keep trying to lean on God's understanding... even when I fail I will keep asking for his forgiveness...
