    Few mistakes:
    France 1975: France withdrew in 1974 due to their president’s death, not in 1975, as mentioned in that video
    Israel 1980: When this song won the 1980 Israeli Song Festival, it was after Israel withdrew, therefore never meant to be sent to the ESC
    Israel 1984: This song was set to be performed on the Kdam Eurovision (the Israeli national final), which was cancelled indeed due to Remembrance Day, therefore not already selected as the Israeli entry to the ESC yet
    Cyprus 1988: The song was DQ due to being published a few years earlier. Though it was included in the unofficial Norwegian album, as mentioned, it has nothing to do with the DQ
    Belarus 2005: The song presented on this video is «Love Me Tonight», which WAS performed in the ESC. The song «Boys and Girls» was the one withdrawn, indeed
    Ukraine 2019: The main reason Maruv winthdrew was UA:PBC giving her impossible T&Cs due to her professional connections to Russian label, not just for demanding she cancel shows

    • @peopipeo
      @peopipeo  4 года назад +2

      Also, this video netlected to mention that in 1963 José Guardiola was supposed to sing «Nubes de Colores», which won the Mediterranean Song Festival, held at the end of 1962, which was used this year as the Spanish national final for the 1963 ESC. After the festival, the result was declared null and void the day after the festival because a fix was discovered in the voting process. As a result, Guardiola was forced to change his song to «Algo Prodigioso», which was sent to London

      Balalaika wasn't even set to be performed in the Israeli national final, both Ilanit and Yoram Tehar-Lev (lyricist of Balalaika) said that Ilanit's manager wanted to send it to the Kdam, but Ilanit wasn't interested and the song was released as a single from her album.
      It's a very strange rumor, Balalaika being the Israeli 1984 non-entry is all over RUclips and Wikipedia without any evidence or reliable sources.

    • @SuperJNG18
      @SuperJNG18 4 года назад

      @@mayamills5174 I think because of Ilanit being a two-time participant and the composer being Kobi Oshrat (he of Hallelujah and Ole Ole, among others), people got the assumption that it was intended for Eurovision. But not even the single cut meets the three-minute maximum for a Eurovision song, and I believe Kobi also said it was never meant to compete. All that being said, it would've been a great entry if it was three minutes long.

    North Macedonia didn't change their song due to the poor internet reaction but to the reaction of Greece. The title of the song 'Imperija' was meant to symbolise the Macedonian empire (plus we can see images of Alexander the Great in the videoclip). So EBU forced them to change the song due to political reference and propaganda.

    Thank you for this video. It was interesting. Also Hungary 2009 - their first choice Márk Zentai - If You Wanna Party was qualified due to the reason that the selected song has been released in 2004 under the title "We Became Friends", which acted as the Swedish Big Brother theme song. Second choice was the one you listed, but withdrew due to her wanting to spend her time on acting in the theater so they had to go with their 3rd choice which didnt qualify in the semi and end up being 15th there.

      It's not really Israel's fault that Lebanon doesn't want to show their entry. Lebanon didn't want to play by the rules. Heck, when Qatar briefly showed interest in competing, they said they'd be willing to broadcast the Israeli entry if it meant they got to compete (of course, it never got off the ground because Qatar isn't in the EBU, plus the World Cup is giving them all the exposure Eurovision might've at the time).

    Thank you, great video! I just got reminded of many songs from the past. About North Macedonia 2013 ("Imperija")… Saying it was about "poor internet reception" isn't wrong, but the reasons for that poor reception lie in it's lyrics (and especially video) implying that Alexander the Great was their own leader. To avoid conflict with Greece, they were strongly suggested to change the song. "Pred da se razdeni" was performed instead.

    Cyprus' withdrawal in 1988 wasn't because of that release (wouldn't it disqualify all the other songs too?). It was because the song was previously entered in the Cypriot selection in 1984, which they weren't aware of when it was selected, so it wasn't eligible and they had to withdraw.
