As a mom of a toddler I am often very overwhelmed. I changed my morning bedtime routines and follow your videos. I also meditate and keep a gratitude journal. I chant and read about the Dharma. These changes felt small but now I find myself more capable during the day and overall much more content. Thank you for these great and helpful videos! It’s been very profoundly awakening for me
As a mom of an active toddler, I could pretty much relate to what you say and how the morning routines including meditation and workouts improved my capabilities as well in handling daily tasks. 😬
My meditations are a combination of 4 methods. 1. I do self compassion meditation as needed. When I’m anxious or sad I do self compassion. 2. I do zen meditation regularly. Almost every day now. I sit for 20 minutes and focus on the breath and I observe body and mind without judgement. Just focusing on my sensory experience and I focus on clearing out thinking and just enter a deeper awareness. 3. I do cultivating compassion meditation. This is a powerful insight based meditation. I love it. 4. Another meditation I do is throwing away the pictures that reside in mind and body. I visual my past events that caused me sadness, fear, uncertainty, anxiety. I visualize throwing these pictures away into a black hole. Eventually, I empty out the pictures that I need to let go of. The detachment helps me love the present moment.
Nick, I thank you so deeply for everything that you do. I watch your videos everyday, they have been a lifesaver and a guide to getting myself back on my feet. What a gift to be able to enjoy your teachings. Much love from Finland. ❤
Thank you Nick, I have been walking on a daily basis since November of 21as I was instructed by my cardiologist to do and not something that I was looking forward to with my medical issues. But with the pandemic and all I was very lonely and asked myself is this all there is? I then adopted a German Sheppard that had been sent back to shelters for months several times with owners complaining he was too aggressive. He was not aggressive, he was terrified. He was given no direction nor discipline and had no idea what his owners wanted from him. Today with the help of a good trainer my dog communicates with me through body language and my teaching him not telling him what I want. I now walk with him with a 3 mile goal each day. We both are in the moment and not acting out of fear to whatever gets put before us, as that is life. To be able to enjoy the walking with a fellow creature that is finally able to enjoy just being a dog and walking with the person that is the most important in his world, is priceless. We both get to just be, not do. Somehow I just felt that this story reinforces your message. As always, stay safe my friend!

For me at this moment in time, I've been trying to progress my spiritual practice for 3 years. Previously I would have phases of great spiritual progression (usually preceded by great suffering) but then followed by a return to normal ways. Each time this would happen I would progress a little bit more spiritually, but always wondered why I always reverted back to bad habits. I now see it's because I put too much emphasis on the meditation (which was great), but not enough focus on how I live my daily life. Thank you Nick, very informative.

You bring up a very wise point about having to abide by all of the rules, not just one or a few. I know I’m my personal life I try to meditate and do my devotional things in the morning, but when I go out to the world and start interacting with other people I get sort of unconscious in a way and I start acting and speaking in ways that are contradictory to how I know I should be.

Thank you Nick, interesting video that clarifies how we should approach mindfulness and meditation as way of living and not simply as something we practice for 15 minutes a day and expecting to change our life. May you and all your viewers be happy and free from suffering.
This is so true. Often times we focus a lot on our physical health (by working out/eating clean), but we tend to forget that we actually do need to take care of our mental/ spiritual health too. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and knowledge, Nick. Your teaching is always very helpful and inspiring 🙏
As usual, your videos are thoughtfully prepared. I work as a janitor, and I often get only 5 hours of sleep. I make up for it on weekends. I find most people are lazy. They prefer to get their direction from someone or something, like a book, instead of drawing from their own lives. People are usually into a superficial morality instead of a profound, transcendent spirituality. It's like that old British comedy Keeping up Appearances.

Hi Nick. As usual, your video was really was an eye opener. Just when you think you’ve got it, you just learn another level, another step. Each time I listen I enter another stage of awareness. The big picture when you look has to all be in harmony. Thank you, thank you Excited for each new video. Finally growth is happening. 😊
Nick, thank you 🙏 for this video. Very eloquently point. I am so appreciative you took the time for all of us on these important topics. For myself the only way to live is as Jesus Christ lived in that high frequency of love, forgiveness, joy, gratitude and servitude from my heart. And everything you talked about is so true and spot on. It takes a lot of daily self discipline, but is so worth it. It’s a process, but so worth it. I am making great strides. I hope everyone else is. Namaste 🙏
Sadhu, Bhante, for your inspiring sharing. The traditional progression of practice - dana (generosity), sila (morality) and bhavana (mental culture) may depend on the nature of individuals, and each of the 3 factors could lead in the practice. The relative importance of sila and bhavana also depends on the type of practice. To be mentally still and hold the mind onto an object, samatha practice, sila should probably lead. For vipassana practice, to be aware that the mind and aspects of the mind are nature at work, not personal, mental culture and right information can lead - for example, the case of a chronically depressed person.
when we can be aware that whenever the mind indulges or gets mad, suffering arises, then wisdom will choose the better choice. This takes persistent awareness and is the path of awareness-wisdom that is accessible to more westerners.
I have ben reading, and listening and writing, taking little notes and have been integrating most of the information on getting to know myself better, to react better to others and to daily problems. But every morning I awake with this void, this feeling that something is not in place. I understand most of it and everything I learn makes sense to me. But I am not practicing enough in order to really know myself and thus understand that my body and mind will not respond correctly or in a more peaceful way: I have not the wisdom for it yet. The less I practice, the less silence I get. Once again, thank you, Nick.
Nick thank you so much for making time for this speech.AM partialy deaf...manage to understand 80 percent of it...words are clear at medium speed. This allows ear catch up with you. From spore sadhu sadhu sadhu
So clear and sensitive and true. If everyone I'm the world lived by those 5 precepts, can you imagine? This intention will stay with me for a while. At first glance, I could say, " sure, I follow those" but with a tiny shift I realised that I do have reason to focus on those more, I am sure everyone does. Also very kindly and respectfully spoken 🙏
Thank you Ven.Nick for taking the time to clarify the basics of a stable foundation in the practice of mindfulness 🙏Really appreciate the gentle way you deliver your teachings ✍️
Thank you for this video.Yes the Morality & Precepts are the mandatory ingredient in making progress on spiritual path. I realised one more necessary thing when I started walking this path....and that is the Study of Concepts, the understanding of Suttas is equally necessary to keep us steering in right direction, from keep us from distractions and creating an enabling environment for our training.
For as long as space endures And for as long as living beings remain, Until then may I too abide To dispel the misery of the world. Everyday I remember that i forgot to apply (under an intention-thought form then in concrete actions if possible) the profound meaning of what it is described in the above 4 stances, so at that very moment mind body and words are ashamed ! Even though day after day, i see more light among others around surprisingly, i still cry and it is quite painful because i failed again, suffering in this world still stands.. The next sunrise i will not.
Hmmmm….Maybe that is why my grandma is the person I most admired. She was all of theses things. She was equal with food, exercise & chores, and morals and simplicity and judgement and was just grateful for everything she had and never asked for anything more object wise. Only to be with family and have necessities. She had a morning routine, daily and nighttime. She spent her time being active with her chores. Spent time in quiet. She was calm, pleasant, happy and a good listener. She grew up during the depression and till the day she died she never complained. I do miss her and wish I had more time with her. I would like to slow down and be more calm like her. This is my goal and thank you for pointing out some of these similarities to peacefulness.
Thank you again for your honestly teaching, you answered so much questions for me. For a long time I wanna tell you that I love the ways of Buddhism. As I was younger I read a Chinese Book about Star signs and my date of birth says that I was the 1st animal that came to Buddha, the Rat. I loved that in my mind and in my Dreams and Imagination to talk to Siddhartha and it was always helpful. I see no other religion that I love more. I should write a book about my feelings and sights of the world. You me hope, that is not all lost, iam thankfull that I find you're channel. Love and Peace to you, bless you. Thank you nick for discussing this topic. And it is very important for today's lifestyle. I humbly request you to make a video on explaining each precept in detail as we understand it's importance more clearly. Again love and best wishes from India. 😌😌
Hi anindita. I have a book called the 1 day Buddhist Cleanse that does into the full details. There should be a link in the description ☺️
Love your video.Sir.i like your analogies to deliver the message home.another key word i find very useful is 'not to judge ourselves or others,it is what it is at this time.🙂🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much tan. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hope you are doing well 😊😊
I`m so grateful that I found your channel. It keeps amazing me, that what you need at that moment, will come on your path. At this point in my life that`s you and your monks perspective. Your wisdom is giving me the insights to help me take my next steps. Thank you for that!
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
Hi Nick. As usual, your video was really was an eye opener. Just when you think you’ve got it, you just learn another level, another step. Each time I listen I enter another stage of awareness. The big picture when you look has to all be in harmony. Thank you, thank you Excited for each new video. Finally growth is happening. 😊
Beautiful Cathy. This is the beauty of Buddhism. It just keeps getting deeper and deeper as you gain wisdom😊 it's beautiful.
Namaste 🙏
Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊 thank you
Sadhu, Bhante, for your inspiring sharing.
Beautifully stated my friend. Thank you for sharing. You're very articulate with your words. It's wonderful. Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊
Thank you for your wonderful videos. Spirituality is divine oneness.🙏
Thank you so much Priyanka 😊😊
I have ben reading, and listening and writing, taking little notes and have been integrating most of the information on getting to know myself better, to react better to others and to daily problems. But every morning I awake with this void, this feeling that something is not in place. I understand most of it and everything I learn makes sense to me. But I am not practicing enough in order to really know myself and thus understand that my body and mind will not respond correctly or in a more peaceful way: I have not the wisdom for it yet. The less I practice, the less silence I get. Once again, thank you, Nick.

My great respect
Sadhu sadhu 😊
So clear and sensitive and true. If everyone I'm the world lived by those 5 precepts, can you imagine? This intention will stay with me for a while. At first glance, I could say, " sure, I follow those" but with a tiny shift I realised that I do have reason to focus on those more, I am sure everyone does. Also very kindly and respectfully spoken 🙏
Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊 thank you Anne Marie

Thank you for this video.Yes the Morality & Precepts are the mandatory ingredient in making progress on spiritual path. I realised one more necessary thing when I started walking this path....and that is the Study of Concepts, the understanding of Suttas is equally necessary to keep us steering in right direction, from keep us from distractions and creating an enabling environment for our training.
Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊 yes very important.
Thank you so much!🙏🏻🌞❤️
It's a pleasure Elisa. Thank you so much for watching :) I hope you are well.
For as long as space endures
And for as long as living beings remain,
Until then may I too abide
To dispel the misery of the world.
😌
Thank you Nick, your wisdom is refreshing. Your video was very enlightening. So many precepts to learn and integrate. Thank you. 🙏
Wonderful. Thank you again Jill. I'm glad it's helpful 😊
Jill, for a layperson only a few precepts, less than the number of fingers on one's hand!
For monk, many...
This is my goal and thank you for pointing out some of these similarities to peacefulness.
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much connie 🙂🙂🙂 Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful person.
Thank YOU.
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
Words for life that no-one can do without. Sadhu Nick.
Sadhu Sadhu Maher 😊😊
