Interior Design: Transforming a Mid-Town Toronto Home for a Growing Family

- A brand new mid-town Toronto home is reimagined for a young couple hoping to grow their family. There are many hip touches, courtesy of designer Shaunn Lipsey, who says the homeowners’ design brief was “warm and upscale, but not fancy.” Walls are coated in microcement for subtle texture with hits of soft sage green to break up the neutral palette. A dramatically dark, arched bar grabs the spotlight in the dining room. The kitchen’s oak cabinets were shaved down to downplay the grain and keep the focus on the heavily veined marble island and backsplash.

I would describe as neutral and clean - not warm.
Thats weird how camera man is showing the space. Corner of the sink, a pillow, a piece of something. Just show, let say, the whole bathroom.
Nice
Dining room light looks tacky 👎🏻
The entire house lacks personality and feels cold to me. Nothing warm about it. Personally. Different strokes for different folks!
The space looks very clean and neat. Not particularly warm. There is little creativity. Essentially major trends applied to this space. Even the moss green chairs are on trend.
I despise the dining room chain lighting fixture.
More beige! Music distracts from the commentary.
It’s really beautiful. Its smaller midtown footprint is what a lot of people have and enjoy. For me, it feels like too much real estate was devoted to eating/dining. For the size of house, it looks excessive. Homeowners really need to look at their lifestyles and what zones are most utilized in their everyday lives. From this video, it seems they eat and entertain with a lot of people. Is that really the case or did they just want an impactful dining space in the front of the house, with a tiny front entry way? Seems that area was sacrificed a bit too much.
Yes. I always find the dining at the island, and another dining spot two feet over, to be odd. Here they do that (and the dining nook is somewhat fancy) and then there’s a dining room just a few feet away. It’s a lot of sitting around space.
Love the look, warm and upscale for sure!❤😂😅😊
I wouldn't describe the entry as "warmth" in fact there's nothing "warmth" about the house. That green marble sink with white tiolet was🤢..didn't go at all. That light fixture in dining room..nooooo
Agreed those spots were not great! She's a great designer though. I have seen some of her other designs.
Boo….go to design school
Yeah...different..not ideal
Such an aggressive comment. 😂 Why are people so miserable. Your opinion is called Thay because it DOESN'T MATTER to anyone else but YOU. Usually I'd support this but you came off as mean for no reason. 🚮💀 Petty even. Maybe it isn't warmth for you cos you're so cold. ❤ Wonder what would happen if you just keep some thoughts to thine self 😭 how'd this add to society. So much time to even add emojis 😂😂😂 NOOOOO
Free standing tub squezed in the corner is very wrong and not practical. Should be alcove in this case.
I’m obsessed with that arch in the bathroom!
Agreed
This is not warm. The use of dark colors, busy marble and cold white makes this the opposite of warm.
This ticks all the bad contemporary trends « moody », « bold » and so on.
Outstanding achievement!
Oh benches. We should not forget to put benches to have a challenge to squeeze ourselves from time to time.
Shaving the wood on the cabinets? That's new to me.
I like it but......too white. Bathroom was amazing
Hate the chain light in the dinning room
The transformation look so fancy and cozy at the same time. ❤❤
Fire place with open shelves around. Very creative.
House of open shelves.
I love the powder room, master bathroom, and kitchen. The kitchen island countertop should have extended all the way down the side in a waterfall style, instead of being cut off. However, I dislike the open shelving and the formal dining room light.
Funny, I thought the wood on the bottom of the waterfall counter was a beautiful designer touch.
I'm not a green girl😊
Everyone in the comments ragging on the dining room chain fixture doesn’t understand high design….🙄 Looks like a Trueing Studio chandelier which are definitely collector’s items for very high-end, design-forward homes (especially among celebrities)! Also amazing is the mixed-material waterfall edge! This designer knows her stuff!
She went to design school or has experience in this field and they don’t! Opinions…ugh
I’m a designer and this house is incredible. All negative comments are definitely from people that cannot afford this 😅
3:45 to 3:48 the most adorable part of the house🧡
How would you describe the colour green of the kitchen chair?
I only like the kitchen…..dining room light is HORRIBLE
Headboard should take the whole wall, not a piece of a wall. It does not look accomplished.
The glass staircase is everything except homey and warm.
To much white and grey i hate it those colors are for hospitals and asylums
🙄
🙄🙄
. You don’t like those colors. Don’t put them in your home, but don’t knock other people who like those colors because trends always change these complainers act like they are paying for these people to do homes you’re not.
These are homes not museums
@@land_banes2639 like I said before what people do with their homes is their business you don’t wanna put your home to look like a museum don’t do it I think these comments are from people who are not financially able to design their homes this way🤣
Love that kitchen! All the colors are perfect 👌 great job 👏
Open shelves wherever they can be inserted. All for clutter.
Beautiful space. Modern, relaxing, with personality
Such a beautiful home. Absolutely love the arches.
Pantry without a door. Is this attractive?
Bad fung shui in that entry
Lovely home! I love it😍😍😍
Timeless space! Well done!!
They did a great job
Very nice
Light and airy
So cozy.
How do you open the slim shaker style cabinet doors in the kitchen ?
Love the minimal entryway and the arches. Everything is fabulous.
12/10!!! The one small thing was the art at the dining table with all the hearts.
Super special is over used!
Looooooove❤❤❤❤
Great job. Designer can come design my home.
Beautifully done and the arched bathroom door 😍
