I really enjoy the explanations of what's happening and the philosophy behind the moves he's making. Also that you can tell he's very into what he's doing. He makes it look like he's playing an instrument throughout the process. I'm obviously not all the way through the video yet, but this is a very enjoyable watch so far.
@@Producelikeapro I only found a clip of a live performance of that band, debuting this song in 2017. 🤔 Other guy in the comments tells everybody he even bought the album. 😅 Fun times.
It only goes to show production can't save a song. It's weird to combine 2 different mixes. They're looking at the wrong thing, the problem with that bridge lies obviously in the limits of the performance/stylistic/artistic choices. Basically, they didn't know how to make the song hold the listener attention. I guess that's why some say you can't polish a turd.
Thanks for your comment! Combining mixes is very common! The Beatles did it very often, mixes, takes, you name it! To this day I can think many hit songs that are combined mixes.
@@Producelikeapro I don't doubt it, but rather than having that harsh volume swell at the end of the bridge I would have cut 1/8 or 1/4 of its last measure and anticipate the following chorus; this way it would have be the only unpredictable variation happening in this song. Let's be honest, this song says all it has to say within the second chorus, we're nowhere near the experimental Beatles repertoire, we're actually closer to early Beatles, and even closer to 50s doo wop with those 4 chords progression.

When I look at the two mixes, I notice that almost all of the peaks have been cut off in the sum and that now the mastering processors can't process the transients properly because the peaks are missing in the first ones and too little headroom was left.
@@Producelikeapro Aha okay, I understand... I'm not a Pro Tools expert. I work a lot with Wavelab Pro when it comes to audio mastering. Many thanks for your response.
The first mix after just minutes of Reuben doing his thing is it for me. What was done to the bass track itself in the second mix is just terrible mud to my ears and the fix sounds and feels less effective.
Interesting and many nice thoughts. You obviously know your stuff, but.. +0.05 dB at (exactly) 3.8k to change the perception of the kick? I simply can't take that seriously.
Someone would have to pay me alot to sit and listen to this track , great knowledge but for me the song is horrible, one humble opinion that not worth a dime 😊
Yeah I feel that I've done some rnb stuff I wasn't really into, but I said to myself hey here's a challenge , I spent over 12 hours mixing it and my client was very pleased, im just glad I didn't say anything but " I'm glad your happy with it " 😊

That's wonderful to hear Chris! Thanks for sharing!
Good stuff 👌🏻
always watch this with audiolens, to see where the curve is going and compare it to my mix targets.

Another great video from Reuben!

Reuben always delivers!
Yes! He does!
Very unique and awesome approach. Very fluid and inspired. I’ll be sure to try Lurssen mastering now. True professionals imo.
Thanks ever so much Chris!
Great video! A rare glimpse into a mastering artist's process, very impressive. Thanks so much!

Who says mastering engineers don't work hard? That was a tall order! Sounds great!
That's the job!
I would like to thank everyone who made this vid possible !!! I`ve learned more than i wanted too !! lol
Wow! Thanks ever so much!
Reuben, really liked the added transition out of the bridge. Reminded me of a reverse cymbal effect. Very creative move.
Reuben Rules!
Top quality miming!!! never saw one knob move at all LOL!!

What type of consul are you using? It looks like a relic like something Tom Dowd would have used.
So professional 💯💯💯🤘🤘🤘

Is this song now "officially" released somewhere? 🤔 Why does this not trigger a copyright strike? 😅
Hmm good question! I don’t know! I’m not if it was ever officially released!

@@Producelikeapro that's something that will never change, give a song to any musician and you'll get a different feedback everytime!
Very interesting video. The 2 versions didn't seem that well mixed to begin with and were way too compressed, so you had your work cut out for you!
In this modern age most Pop Mixes almost appear as square waves! Haha So this by comparison was 'open' sounding! Haha

Also worth noting that the view was enhanced on Pro Tools making the wave files larger

I'll be right back guys, headed to sweetwater fro $175K in gear, then I can make a good master!
Watch the whole video! The second half is doing it in the box, just like the video says haha

Its a great Video but not many people around the world can spent money for expensive analog gear. Please make a video only in the box mastering.
in the second part of the video, Reuben Masters the song using the LMC plugin.
Please watch the full video! It's starts off hardware then reproduces the same thing with software
How to master a track :
1- buy a hardware eq
2- press play
3- start touching and feeling the eq
Keep watching! The second half is using a plug in!
thought i was watching a dj fail video for a minute

I agree but then again I never get any paid work so this kind of music is probably where the money is at.
